Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wales: Wild White Rose of My Heart From: GUEST,Dr Price Date: 27 Feb 06 - 02:36 PM Dioch yn fawr iawn, Sian! I'm just about to look up Lliw Gwyn Rhosyn Yr Haf, although with your considerable knowledge of Welsh tradition I know I won't to look too far! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wales: Wild White Rose of My Heart From: sian, west wales Date: 27 Feb 06 - 10:28 AM Oh - I should have mentioned that it's also on the 2CD re-issue, "Mered: 50 traditional folk songs". Anyone who wants to learn Welsh folk songs in the original Welsh should get this! It's great! The only weird thing is that they give all the words and notes for disc 1, but not disc 2! siân |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wales: Wild White Rose of My Heart From: sian, west wales Date: 27 Feb 06 - 10:22 AM I'm pretty sure it's "Lliw Gwyn Rhosyn yr Haf". The scansion works. It's most recently been published in Can y Werin (www.gwynn.co.uk) with a new English translation by Gwynn Thomas. It seems to me that it might be in that old collection that Boosey & Hawkes published years and year ago - and I can't find my copy. It was popular with the North American Welsh so that may be where your correspondent learned it. On 'googling' it, it seems that Gustav Holst might have arranged it for choirs too. sian |
Subject: Lyr Req: Wales: Wild White Rose of My Heart From: GUEST,Dr Price Date: 27 Feb 06 - 06:26 AM Can you help? This is an email which came to me. I suspect the sender is American: "Hi - I used to sing a song from Wales called White Wild Rose of my Heart, but I lost the lyrics. Can you help me find them? Thanks." |
