Subject: RE: Chord Req: Keep On Truckin' (Donovan) From: GUEST,Alan Whittle Date: 22 Feb 11 - 09:48 PM Well obviously all songs can be played in all keys. The thing about the C and G key in standard tuning with the keep on trucking sequence - you get that funky alternating bass - plus the chance to do hammer ons with your fingers of the right and the thumb of the left hand. And that wonderful slur on the D on the 2nd string whilst playing the F chord! If you want that open string sound that you can get with E. Look also at playing with an open D or E tuning. It harmonises nicely with someone playing the key of C standard tuning capo-ed at the fourth. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Keep On Truckin' (Donovan) From: GUEST,Zachary Zachary Date: 22 Feb 11 - 02:23 PM Everyone is saying the song starts in C....only with a capo perhaps. but if you're playing with the guitar open its E-B-C#-C#-B-E for the main part of the song then it goes E-E7-A-A7, then back again. then the "break down" is E7-C#m-F#m-B |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: donovan keep on truckin' From: M.Ted Date: 14 Oct 06 - 06:28 PM The original version of this song is Blind Boy Fuller's--he called it "Truckin' My Blues Away", and recorded again as "What's that Smell Like Fish?" check his version(s) out if you want to know how to play it--failing that, listen to "Alice's Restaurant"--Arlo's famous guitar part was...well...used by Fuller first:-) |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: donovan keep on truckin' From: M.Ted Date: 13 Oct 06 - 09:25 PM You'll do better to play A7 instead of Am, and, instead of the Fm, play F#diminished, or play a B7 with your index finger on the low E string, second fret(which is essetially the same). |
