Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Lyric for Wayside Tavern by Peter Rowan From: Jim Dixon Date: 11 Jun 03 - 11:03 PM I transcribed this much from a sound sample at Yahoo! Shopping - Music. It seems to be the part you want. Wayside tavern window light beckons unto me: "Tarry by the hearthside bright and seek good company." I stepped in to join the din... Now, since you have all the words, why not post them here? |

Subject: Lyr Add: WAYSIDE TAVERN (Peter Rowan) From: GUEST Date: 24 Sep 07 - 08:21 PM Hi I don't know who was looking for these originally, but I love this song and just transposed all of the words. Here they are - Enjoy. WAYSIDE TAVERN (Jerry Douglas and Peter Rowan) Winter wind, whining low Snow covered ground The midnight sky is black as ink Snowflakes like stars, fallin' down. Wayside tavern window light Beckons unto me Tarry by the hearthside bright And seek good company. Chorus I stepped in to join the din So carefree and so loud Just to lose ol' Mister blues And mingle with the crowd. Blue light glows where the whisky flows In amber down my glass Burns my lips like your passionate kiss, I can't let you pass. Fiddles play love's melody And calls us to the bliss And your eyes, like distant stars, Embrace me in your trance. (Chorus) Mornin' sun, new fallen snow, You're warm within my arms. Watchin' our breath in frosty air No strangers to love's charms. Any time you want me I'll find a way to you, By the wayside tavern door With my old friend, Mister Blues (Chorus) I think these are pretty accurate - had a little trouble with "In amber down my glass" line - but I think I got it. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Lyric for Wayside Tavern by Peter Rowan From: Stewie Date: 26 Sep 07 - 03:11 AM Like Ron, I hear 'hearthside bright' and 'morning sun', and no 'near' in the first line of the last stanza. The only correction by Hootenanny that I agree with is that it should be 'dance' not 'bliss'. --Stewie. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Lyric for Wayside Tavern by Peter Rowan From: GUEST,Hootenanny Date: 26 Sep 07 - 05:39 AM Apologies all round (Christ I sound like Captain Birdseye). I have just pulled out the recording and have to agree with Stewie. I transcribed the words several years back and after learning it have been singing it ever since. I guess my memory went into folk process mode. I'm off to eat umble pie. Hoot |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wayside Tavern (Peter Rowan) From: Stewart Date: 13 Jan 12 - 12:38 PM Pat Egan and Alex Caton do a very nice version of this on their new CD "Fiddle Tunes and Ballads." The words are slightly changed from those above. But the singing is very distinct and I had no trouble with the lyrics. WAYSIDE TAVERN - Peter Rowan, B. and Peggy Logan Winter wind, blowing down Snow covered ground Midnight sky as black as ink Snowflake stars, fallin' down. Wayside tavern window light Beckons unto me Tarry by the hearthside bright Seek your company. Chorus I dropped in, joined the din So carefree and so loud Just to lose ol' Mister blues Mingle with the crowd. Moonlight glows where the whisky flows Amber down my glass Burns my lips like your passionate kiss, I can't let you pass. Fiddles play love's melody Calls us to our dance And your eyes, like distant stars, Embrace me in your trance. (Chorus) Mornin' star, new fallen snow, Safe within my arms. And our breath in the frosty air Stranger to love's charms. Any time that you want me near From my way back to you, By the wayside tavern door With my old friend, Mister Blues (Chorus) Cheers, S. in Seattle |
