Anyone have the Lyric for the Peter Rowan tune Wayside Tavern. It's off the Yonder cd he put out with Jerry Dougles. I'm have trouble with the second verse. I'm not sure of the line after "Wayside Tavern window light/beckons onto me"

I transcribed this much from a sound sample at Yahoo! Shopping - Music. It seems to be the part you want.

Wayside tavern window light beckons unto me:
"Tarry by the hearthside bright and seek good company."

I think these are pretty accurate - had a little trouble with "In amber down my glass" line - but I think I got it.

"FIRE-SIDE bright" NOT hearth-side

and fiddles play love's melody and: "lure us to the DANCE" not bliss

Last verse, first line; Any time you want me NEAR.

gotta love the cat! the request for the lyrics sits here for 4 freekin' years - someone finally posts the lyrics and someone else comes along and corrects them within 24 hours.

Like Ron, I hear 'hearthside bright' and 'morning sun', and no 'near' in the first line of the last stanza. The only correction by Hootenanny that I agree with is that it should be 'dance' not 'bliss'.

Apologies all round (Christ I sound like Captain Birdseye). I have just pulled out the recording and have to agree with Stewie. I transcribed the words several years back and after learning it have been singing it ever since. I guess my memory went into folk process mode.
I'm off to eat umble pie.

hey ron moleski, thanks for the lyrics. i think the line that ends with 'bliss' is actually 'dance', as it rhymes with 'trance.' thanks again.

Pat Egan and Alex Caton do a very nice version of this on their new CD "Fiddle Tunes and Ballads." The words are slightly changed from those above. But the singing is very distinct and I had no trouble with the lyrics.
