I don't think I even realised there was an ice cream raffle prize or I'd have been stockpiling tickets ....I'll have to keep alert this year, clearly.

I used to keep a Lert, but I had to let it go,as they only eat ice-cream and are expensive to feed.

...and while you are there, perhaps...

Poem 190 of 230: BIRDWATCHERS' BUDE - WINTER 2001/2

Behind the Tourist Centre,
    Between canal and river,
On the marshy drained flood-plane
    (Not now visited by train),
In among willow and reed,
    Eking out some winter feed:
Treecreepers, bobbing robins,
    Chirpy blue-tits, grey-herons,
The screams of water-rail,
And snipe sharp on their trail.
Plus, out along limestone down,
    Soaring seabirds can be found.

Look out for details of when you can come and dance or play with Herbaceous Border.
It's unlikely to be when/where it says in the programme cos it just wont work for HB's "on the street workshop" to do turn and turn about with Grimspound Morris.

I hope all the usual suspects will come along to dance - together with lots more (whether beginners or experts)
And, as usual I'm begging for musicians! I had hoped to get someone to come along specially to play 'lead melodeon' for the weekend, but haven't managed it. Instead it will be the usual wonderful mixture.

I should be there by Friday lunchtime so if you want to play or dance please come and have a chat with me so I can fix the time and place. I'll then put posters up in the Rugby Club and possibly elsewhere.

Sue

Couldn't you come & join the fun anyway Sunray? Would be grand to get you to a MudGather!

Cats: Have just had a chocolate purchasing moment in Tesco's, not the best place to get chocolate but 'fraid shopping opportunities are few & far between in this crazy life we're having just now. Had to restrain myself though.....

Lucy: Don't you dare be stressed, now is the time for you to sit back and let things happen as they will. Positive thoughts, love & hugs!

Have a great start tomorrow, wish we could be there early, but it'll be Friday teatime before we get along. Safe journeys everyone!!!

Is the chocolate obligatory? Like the jewellery shop visit with Kathy?
No stress necessary. Whatever happens, we'll all make sure we have the best time possible.

Letm add my thanks and congratulations to thos above. Another cracker, Kevin and Lucy! Personal high spot for me was on Friday night, the fair-haired lad who did a two-song spot at the ceilidh in the Falcon; brilliant voice and great fiddle playing. And I loved CMR's singing and their workshop in St Michaels.

And Hils, I am glad I made the Mudgather this time!

Yes, George, James Findlay ("the fair-haired lad")was probably the outstanding "find" of the weekend. He was similarly jaw-droppingly good on the Saturday night, too. He was a New Roots winner in 2008. Watch out for him: he's a-coming atcha!

As it says in the programme, lots of people you may not have heard of before, but you WILL again! Remember you saw them at Bude first!
Well all you wonderful people, thank you so VERY much ALL of you for making the festival happen. All I can do is prepare the ground, you make the festival what it is! Without you it really would be rubbish, so thank you thank you thanks you!
James Findlay, Alex Cummings, Hannah Cummings, Jon Dyer (the younger) and Penny Dyer - AKA Coracle / The Dyer:Cummings / The James Findlay Band won the Rob Bader Memorial Trophy for the most memorable moment at the festival. The actual moment, started on Friday and lasted right through to Sunday Lunchtime, Such selfless talent, enthusiasm, and energy - makes you feel errr...... somewhat weepy :0)
I didnt see it but the youngsters rowing up the canal singing shanties attracted a crowd :0) perhaps we could have a big shanty sing on the canal next year...............things are already being mulled over.............. Does anyone have a ketch small enough to get through Bude sea lock?
Anyway, Thanks all, you were fantastic
Lucy

Lucy, that sounds like a fantastic idea ! I don't know about ketches ( or yawls either) ,but I did notice a couple of "Gigs" outside a house on the "Atlantic Highway" as we were leaving Bude yesterday ; you could get a fair few shanty-singers in those !
Thanks for a simply wonderful festival,it just keeps getting better-the whole atmosphere on the campsite was truly amazing, and of course, the weather helped ...(how did you DO that ??) !!
The "turnout" for Herbaceous Border was MUCH better this year, with far more musicians, AND enough adult dancers to make a fair go of the Upton Stick Dance,so a big thankyou to Sue for that ! I wonder if people realise just how heavy all that "clobber",viz. sticks,tatter-jackets etc, that Sue drags around with her, really is ? I certainly do now, after helping to lug it all back to the campsite !
And a big "chuck up" for the world's nicest, happiest, most welcoming and helpful club Steward, too !

Yes, we had to be relayed home too, on Monday. Set off knowing the power assist for the steering was on the blink, but on the M5 something took out the alternator belt as well. We managed to get over the bridge, but finally ran out of power at Magor. The nice men from Green Flag took us home.

Apart from that, what a bloody marvelous festival!

What a Fantastic weekend, well done to Lucy & Kevin and all the people who helped, it's one of the friendliest festivals I know! Amazing that you managed to arrange good weather too, don't forget to order it for next year. Will it be the Bank Holiday weekend? Please let us all know as soon as it's decided, we need to get it set in our diaries!!

Thanks to everyone who came to the MudGather on the Sunday morning, I think it worked really well and the Rugby Club is such a good venue. I managed to cut down on my chocolate intake, bit early for it really, but that was a good thing considering that I demolished a box of fingers on Saturday morning in an attempt to get rid of a hangover *grin*

So, here's the Register:

I thoroughly enjoyed seeing these young musicians at Bude, but why oh why do they have to play such lovely tunes much, much too fast ?? Because they CAN,I guess, but it ruins it for many of us---they'll end up like Silly Wizard !!
