Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Fibula Mattock Date: 04 Dec 01 - 10:57 AM Just as a matter of interest, does anyone know how well the postal services (in any area at all, just to be vague) are working at the moment? |

While I'm sendign a couple packages of cookies this year, I'm going skip the special confections covered in powdered sugar... (wishing everyone a) pax yall (an quietly waiting at the mail box for my gift, looking pitiful...) |

Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: sian, west wales Date: 05 Dec 01 - 04:35 AM Same here, Sarah. And my Santa hasn't even posted that they acknowledge my existence. Ho ho hum. Still, better to give than receive, eh? And I'm hoping that MY Santee will be getting something soon. I posted it weeks ago, but had to send it by boat as the air mail was bl**dy extortionate! sian |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Fibula Mattock Date: 05 Dec 01 - 05:22 AM Hmmm, my Santee's parcel was sent over a month ago. If they've got it, they've kept it very quiet! |

Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Sorcha Date: 05 Dec 01 - 01:05 PM I have only heard one small peep from my Santa a long time ago. Sinsull said she knows who and what........anxiously watching the post.......... |

Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 05 Dec 01 - 02:29 PM ????????? Now I'm really confused. My Santa said to watch the mail, and then your stuff appeared. Thanks anyway. I guess this means I get to have two surprises, oh boy! |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Clinton Hammond Date: 05 Dec 01 - 04:05 PM I'm shocked and stunned that I stared an idea at mudcat that has spawned into its SEVENTH thread! LOL!!! you people are great! |

Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: GUEST,amergin@work Date: 05 Dec 01 - 06:08 PM still have not received anything.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: RangerSteve Date: 05 Dec 01 - 06:11 PM Someone may not be getting their present until January, since my car just required over a thousand dlrs in repairs, so don't worry, your present is coming. |

Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: catspaw49 Date: 07 Dec 01 - 06:54 AM Ol' Spaw got his and I see what my Santa was worried about. Evidently this little place I live has been marked for a mail hold from across the pond.......Just a joke, not really, but for some reason my Santa's package and also a tape, both mailed from what I can tell at about the same time, took a freakin' month to arrive here! I don't get it but then I don't presume to understand anything even at the best of times.......I'll be back later to tell you about it....hehehehehehe Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: The_one_and_only_Dai Date: 07 Dec 01 - 07:08 AM Ooooh, enduring, yes, indulgent, yes... Many many thanks Kim C, I took the liberty of opening your package ;-) since there were obviously perishables inside (naah, I'm just an overexcited little kid, really)
Mrs. C was kind enough to send me some Tennessee produce: the cassette by her and her husband (which is excellent, by the way!), a CD of the 'Gypsy Hombres' which I'll post a review on when I've had a chance to listen, and some amorphous confectionary called 'GooGoos' - can any catters let me know if I need any special equipment to consume these? (Note to UK catters - these appear to be 'wagon wheels' without the wheel...) |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Dani Date: 07 Dec 01 - 09:02 AM ...sigh... Yes, I'm trying hard to be good. But these pretty little packages look so tempting on the shelf. Just looking at them makes me feel so festive. And if I open them.... Well, maybe just one? Maybe after I get my big ol' tree up. Dani |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: SharonA Date: 07 Dec 01 - 10:50 AM Do what I did, Dani: hide it! Mine's in a knit stocking, where I still squeeze it daily... I'm starting to pop the bubble wrap of the pack it was sent in! Still can't figure out what's inside there, though. There's a flat, squarish box shape, a hard cylinder with something that moves inside it, and a squishy part. Hmmm... I have an idea what the squishy part might be, but the rest is a mystery. 18 days to go! |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: SharonA Date: 08 Dec 01 - 12:03 PM ***COUNTDOWN: 17 DAYS TILL CHRISTMAS*** This reminds me of the Monty Python skit with the sailors who've been in a lifeboat for weeks: "How long is it?" "That's a rather personal question, sir!!!" |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Clinton Hammond Date: 08 Dec 01 - 04:06 PM There's no law that says you have to wait till THE day to open S. Santa gifts... Besides... if you wait, on X-mas day, I won't be able to open a thread that shows me pics of folks and their gifts! THAT'S what I'm looking forward to!! ;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Kim C Date: 11 Dec 01 - 01:55 PM Dai! I am so glad it got there safely! GooGoos are a local institution and one of my favorite candies. I try not to indulge too often. Although, sadly, like most candies nowadays, they are smaller than they used to be, and cost more. Glad you are pleased with the tape. :-) The Gypsy Hombres are a lot of fun. You said you were interested in hearing something you hadn't heard before, so I figured that might fit the bill. Merry Christmas! |

Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: RangerSteve Date: 12 Dec 01 - 08:38 AM I can't stand this! Sarah the Flute, I'm revealing myself. As I stated above, although you couldn't have known it was for your sake, my car broke down, and it cost me a lot to get repaired. I'm going shopping today, Dec. 12. Your present may be late, but it's coming. You sounded so heart broken, I had to let you know what's going on. Sian in West Wales, I believe you're my Secret Santa. I opened the gift early - Thanks. |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Sorcha Date: 12 Dec 01 - 05:42 PM I'M SPEECHLESS!!! My Secret Santa box came today.........WOW! from Allan C. Lots of neat stuff. An entire newspaper from his town, two round Virginia "concretions"--ittle round rocks that were mud a gazillion years ago (one cut in half so you can see the center), some fossil shells found on his farm, a nifty windproof Camper/Backyard candle (with spare candle), a bamboo whistle in A, and the Crowning Glory--a CD titled.................................................................................wait for it, it's coming..... Bill and Allan's Mudcat Adventure--Sounds of Sorcha's Backyard!!! I can re live it all over again! WHOOOPPPEEE!!!! You can't tell I'm excited can you? |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Clinton Hammond Date: 12 Dec 01 - 05:46 PM Very cool... Allan C -NAILS- the spirit of the thing right on the head! High 5's mate! ;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Sorcha Date: 12 Dec 01 - 05:48 PM oh, i was so excited i forgot........we took pictures. When the roll is finished, I'll snail them to Mary in Kentucky. |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Allan C. Date: 12 Dec 01 - 06:48 PM Your excitement is an echo of my own in finding/creating those things for you, Sorcha. I have heard it said that one should give something that one would want to receive. I must tell you that I envy you for having that candle lantern. Maybe my local Santa will find one for me, too! |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Sorcha Date: 12 Dec 01 - 06:57 PM Allan, it is wonderful. I am sitting here listening to your CD--brings it all back. I LOVE outdoor windproof candle thingies--do you want one just like that (for camping/backpacking) or just a windproof candle thingie? (playing now--Bill S and Bob L on melodeon and concertina--Scotland the Brave).......oh, what times we had. Tearing up now. |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Allan C. Date: 12 Dec 01 - 07:43 PM I must confess that my local Santa is the same one who is keying this post. Therefore, I will be sure to get exactly what I want. One of my favorite parts of that recording is when your daughter sang. |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Sorcha Date: 12 Dec 01 - 08:41 PM Allan, I wish you could have heard her in the Sheabeen Pub singing for Seamus and Bert......she may be "untrained" and need training, but as Seamus says, "she has a set of pipes". Does anybody else get a CD or a compilation CD of the Adventure? Listening now to me doing "RedHaired Boy"--there is nothing like listening to a recording to understand just how good you are....I am not "Tour/Concert" class, but I ain't bad! Sure wish my Twin Fiddler Dana could have been there...... |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: SINSULL Date: 12 Dec 01 - 10:48 PM Sounds like a great item for the auction. Lucky you, Sorcha.I want Allan as my SS next year! |

Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 13 Dec 01 - 08:12 AM Great! I'm the only one here with TWO Secret Santas. |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 13 Dec 01 - 10:08 AM FIRECAT! You sneaky little Santa! I just got back from the Post Office where I had to ask for my package because the PO box was too small to hold it. All the guys there (me too) were in a buzz about a package from across the pond. You must have known how much I love Yorkshire, now I'll have to find out all about Doncaster. I'm still overwhelmed...a copy of Folk News (all about the folk scene in South Yorkshire and the North Midlands), postcards for my collection from Doncaster, a figurine of a pit pony (whatever that is...something to do with coal mining...you didn't know that my home county is in a coal mining area and my brother-in-law is a miner), a hand made bottle stop (you didn't know that my Hubby also does wood turning), and a blue teddy bear (my favorite team's color is blue). Thanks! |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 13 Dec 01 - 10:12 AM ...and in the Folk News there is an article by Malcolm Douglas. Might that be our Malcolm? |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Blackcatter Date: 13 Dec 01 - 11:45 AM I am still patiently waiting... The gift giving continues to sound great! I was offline for a week - I was using an employer's ISP for the last year and I quit working for him a couple weeks ago, but I thought he'd let me keep using his ISP access even though I quit working for him. He wasn't able to pay me and owes me over $2000. So now I'm on line again, and continuing to look for work. I have a bunch of presents under the Yule tree - (lucked out and I have been working for a friend who does book fairs at large office complexes and I was able to buy (limited quantities) of books for 10% of the cover price) I've just read the John Grisham short novel "Skipping Christmas" that came out recently - it's a good read. I'd suggest it to anyone who thinks the holidays are over-done. Thanks Clinton for the suggestion that spawned 7 threads! I'm still looking forward to my SS gift - sure could use it right about now. pax yall |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Clinton Hammond Date: 13 Dec 01 - 12:54 PM Yer welcome BCer... Just ticked off that I had to drop out of it! It feels real good to see you folks having sooo much fun with this thing! ;-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: GUEST,BLACKCATTER'S SANTA Date: 13 Dec 01 - 02:06 PM I fully expect to mail your gift on Monday as it just arrived in my mail today. Sooner if possible, My apologies for the delay, but it will arrive before Christmas. Sincerely, Bad Santa |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: GUEST, JenEllen's Secret Santa Date: 13 Dec 01 - 03:31 PM It's packed! I've been dithering because there was something I wanted to include, but it will have to wait. And I fretted about getting things perfect. And I've been distracted. It's all been wrapped and waiting in a shipping box for some time, but I've been, ah, distracted. But it's done! Wrapped in way too much bubble wrap! Just consider that to be an extra present. ;-) (and all those styrofoam peanuts for the cats to play with.) The package will be shipped from the post office in my local big town tomorrow (Friday) afternoon. If they tell me approximately when for you to expect it, I'll let you know. Sorry it's taken me so long!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Blackcatter Date: 14 Dec 01 - 12:49 AM Hey Santa - I responded on the other list, but you might check this one first - Don't worry, and you're not a bad Santa - He never gets stuff to homes until the 25th - anytime before that is gravy. And this is the first time I've gotten something from Santa since... oh wait! I've NEVER gotten anything from Santa. Thanks again! pax yall. |

A Californian T-shirt (which my son photographed me wearing)and two very interesting CDs, one of them by Sue's husband. I look forward to hearing them. Thank you, my Californian Santa! Should be with you by Christmas if they don't get distracted on the way! NSSS |

Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Susan from California Date: 17 Dec 01 - 06:23 PM Well, I waited for about two weeks, with the box patiently waiting in my family room. I did really well, but today was the first day of my long awaited break and I couldn't wait anymore! My SS didn't tell me who she is (well, we are pretty sure it's a she because the wrapping job WAS beautiful!) Holy cow, did I make a haul! My SS is in the Pacific NW, I rec'd ash from Mt. St. Helen's, coffee from Seatle, two photo albums, a journal, post cards and tourist info, chocolate, honey, a tape of Christmas music, all separately and beautifully wrapped. So, Santa, will your identity be forever hidden? Thank You SS!!!!!! |

Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: JenEllen Date: 17 Dec 01 - 07:27 PM Well, I suppose in the spirit of the season I would be correct in saying "Sweet Jaysus..." I am so sorry Susan! I am Santa!! (use your Spartacus voices, folks) How in the world could I have forgotten that? Don't answer... And yes it was beautifully wrapped. The tissue and card was made by a local artist who's been doing that for a few years now, the red heavier stuff was some that I'd made one night at the gallery. Hope you liked it. As for all of the other goodies, ENJOY!!! Love, Santette |

Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Susan from California Date: 17 Dec 01 - 08:26 PM Noreen, have you listened to The Feinians cd yet? You said in the hints thread that you liked Celtic music, and stuff local to my area, well The Fenians are from Orange County (yep!) California and they play trad music with a twist. They have a sax player, a full drum set, and they can rock! Hope you like it! |

Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: JenEllen Date: 18 Dec 01 - 02:51 PM So I get this huge box in the post today, and wind up pacing and forth in front of it wondering "Do I or don't I?" Then I figured, it's a blizzard outside, I'm going to need to be entertained, oh whatthehell.... Thank you Santas Bat Goddess and Curmudgeon!! As I write this, Tom's voice is coming from the stereo, (I don't know over-engineered, but that doesn't sound like it to me, lovely) The Angel Band is next! The garnet crystal rock is a new office bookend, and my crab claw is hanging just above it! And if this snow keeps up, you do realize I am going to have to try out that recipe of yours! Oh, who am I kidding? even if this snow doesn't keep up, I'm going to have to try that recipe of yours.... Also a great big thanks to Karen, who performed a holiday miracle. Funny story: I was talking not too long ago with a Mudcat friend. This person was describing the guest list for their perfect dinner party. Bat Goddess' name came up, and I thought "Well, I don't know her too well, but if she's a friend of yours, she's a friend of mine." Now I have the feeling that I not only know her, but that I also have someone who is competent enough to run a blender. Love to Bat Goddess and Curmudgeon, and scratches to Mortimer, Sabine, Banjo, and Creamsicle! |

Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Bat Goddess Date: 18 Dec 01 - 07:50 PM Oh, JenEllen, make the margaritas already! No blender needed! I always keep a bottle made up in the fridge. (Ya know, to ward off scurvy and the like -- it's fruit juice, right?!?) Although I'm still trying to figure out how to make, uh, hot buttered margaritas for snowstorms and the like. It started snowing here yesterday, then turned to freezing rain. Then it warmed up and turned to just plain rain. Then the sun came out. Then it snowed. Then it rained again and the sun came out -- sort of. Then it got windy. Then it got dark. Boy, do we need a holiday!!! I've got a job interview tomorrow -- and THEN I'm going for a walk on the beach! So, when are we going to put the perfect dinner party together? And where? Did I tell you Tom just got a new concertina? And I WILL find the "Warts and All" tape to copy for you. Have a great holiday! Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: SharonA Date: 21 Dec 01 - 04:14 PM ***COUNTDOWN – FOUR DAYS TILL CHRISTMAS*** (and the same four days till I open my pressie from my Secret St. Nick!!! Yes, Santa, I've been very, very good, but it's getting VERY hard to wait!) (BTW, the present is now officially under an official Christmas tree... I know it's official because it said "Christmas tree" on the box...) |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: SharonA Date: 21 Dec 01 - 04:50 PM Hmmm... Come to think of it, I don't know if my Secret Santee has received his or her gift from me, either. (Wait; I did send it, didn't I? I'd better check...) (Just kidding!) |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Blackcatter Date: 22 Dec 01 - 12:11 PM Woo Hoo! I got my gift yesterday! I was out all day and just stopped by the home for a change of clothes before going to the Solstice vigil and on the off-chance checked the mail. There it was. I was able to maintain the surprise until I got to the vigil and then I opened it. It was from Spaw - Thank you, thank you, thank you! Spaw sent me a Heywood Banks CD. This was so wonderful and quite unexpected, because I don't think that I specifically asked for Heywood Banks, but I had recently discovered his music and had started a thread to find out a bit of info. So it was a wonderful bit of perception on Spaw's part. and to time it so that I got it on the day I open presents anyhow. Thank you once again Spaw for making my Solstice that much more special. I have been in the process of turning my friend on to Heywood and this will help a lot. And Mary - a friend took my picture with my digital camera so I will download the image sometime today and send it to you. pax yall, and happy Solstice! |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: catspaw49 Date: 22 Dec 01 - 12:41 PM Well, I'm glad it made it Blackcatter and from the time I got your name, I knew what it was I was going to get. I AM sorry that it took so long for me to get it and I had to rush the shipping because I had a few other things I wanted to include as a joke. After the holidays, I'll send you another package....no big deal, just thought it would be something cute to go with the CD and it has local origins. Thanks for the thanks! Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Blackcatter Date: 22 Dec 01 - 02:39 PM You're welcome. Just listened to the CD finally - Can't wait to start learning the song to terrorize the local open-mike scene.

Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: GUEST,SharonA at the library Date: 22 Dec 01 - 04:55 PM ***COUNTDOWN: THREE DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS*** I won't be around here to count down the other two days, so I'll have to say this now: a very Merry Christmas to all Secret Santas, Santees, and everyone! Thanks to Clinton Hammond, Pseudolus, KarenB and Mary (keeper of pictures!) for starting and keeping this SS ball rollin'! Thanks again to my SS for the pressie (soooon I'll let myself open it...... sooooooooooon......) Sharon |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: catspaw49 Date: 23 Dec 01 - 09:29 PM Here it is two days to go, and due to what we;re doing, I decided to open the package from Fibula Mattock this evening. It took a long time to arrive for some odd reason, about 3 weeks in the mail, so I decided to wait until Christmas. I almost made it, but I wanted to see what it was and say thanks now in case I didn't have time later.....not that there's a big rush or anything. In any case, I'm glad I did because I don't know what to say about this book. Fibs, what a WONDERFUL gift!!!! It is indeed like sending a bit of yourself...a truly excellent piece of work. The book is Blooming Meadows, The World of Irish Traditional Musicians. ANd that is the key...it's about musicians as much as music...moreso. I've leafed through and read several chapters and I am hooked. There is alwys more to music than music. Music is about the people who make it and who they are, what they bring........The phots are equally compelling as you can hear music and see real living in the faces. Great photographer, captures a lot. I cannot express my thnaks any better than to say that this is the finest possible gift for anyone to receive. The giver shares a part of themselves and it don't get better than that. (Mick would die for this book....if he's nice, I might share) And now.........Also in the package was a chocolate bar which lasted something in the neighborhood of 37 seconds. We all tried a piece and when I turned around again, the boys had offed the rest! But here was more...a gift for Spaw....with Spaw in mind....and in the air.....A flatulent (or worse) gift that Fibs knew I would appreciate. I now have this little Santa guy, real cute smile, a bit bent over, and when you press him down........................yeah, you got it....he craps a little "pellet" out his ass! Fibula was nice enough to send pretty red and green sugar candy pellets, but she also sent a refill pack in the more "traditional" brown. This too was a big hit with the boys and I can see Old Nick poppin' out a few when we have guests. Fibs, I cannot say thank you enough. A fantastic present and now I feel really bad that I didn't get the other stuff shipped to Blackcatter.....but he did like the CD so that's something. I'll post this on both threads and get a picture to Mary ASAP. Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: SINSULL Date: 23 Dec 01 - 09:46 PM I'm still waiting. Humming "Please Mr. Postman look and see. Is there a package, oh yeah, in your bag for me?" Maybe Santa found out I actually was naughty... |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Blackcatter Date: 23 Dec 01 - 10:38 PM Spaw - the CD was the best! So far I've played it for 5 people - all love it as well. Anything else you send me is gravy - especially since you realized I'd like the CD through paying attention to my non-SS postings. pax yall |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: CapriUni Date: 23 Dec 01 - 10:42 PM I haven't gotten anything from my SS, either, Sinsull, so don't feel bad... Though, to be fair, I did say that it might just as well be a birthday prezzie in my case, so that would move it back a couple weeks. But I am curious as to how my SS is planning on sending the package. Will it fit in my (large) mailbox? Or will the postman put in one of those little yellow slips of paper that says I have a package waiting at the Post Office (and if so, I hope it hasn't come already, and I threw out the little slip of paper with the junk mail by mistake... I don't think I have, but that is one of my recurring fears)? Or is it coming via FedEx or UPS? In which case, I'll have to hope I'm not in the shower when the doorbell rings... :::Sigh::: As you can see, I have 'mail issues'... Secret Santa -- if you're out there, could you ease my mind a little? |

Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Lyrical Lady Date: 24 Dec 01 - 01:51 AM Thank you Robin2! Yes, your gift arrived safe and sound and in only a few days! Unfortunately my computer has been down these past 6wks and I wasn't able to respond. I received 3 wonderful cd's which I have been playing over and over, a great rooster cap and a little rooster and hen, a jar of sorghum, which I have used to glaze my christmas ham, a little dram of kentucky whiskey and a lovely letter (including photo) explaining everything to me. Such a wonderful gift from a wonderful person ... T Thanks Robin. LL |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Fibula Mattock Date: 24 Dec 01 - 07:10 AM Aw Spaw, glad you liked it! Yeah, I thought the Santa suited you... I nearly trampled a shopful of people in the rush and the excitement of buying it. I'm pleased you love the book - it's a great mixture of people, places, reminiscences and music. Glad the boys liked the chocolate (UK Catters - it was a big bar of Dairy Milk - mmmm). Ach, I'm just delighted that you're delighted! Looking forward to seeing the photos... MERRY CHRISTMAS! |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Morticia Date: 24 Dec 01 - 09:40 AM ( I've posted this to both threads so Lyrical Lady will be sure to see it). Oh boy!!! I decided since it was Xmas Eve, Santa would overlook my opening your present...( he will, won't he?).I'm a bit overwhelmed and a bit teary to be honest, what a treasure haul!Barbara,I honestly can't thank you enough. I opened one beautifully wrapped package,to find loads of equally beautifully wrapped little parcels...now sit back and make yourself comfortable, this is going to take a while. On the first day of Xmas, Lyrical Lady sent to me: a package of maple tea ( I love herbal teas and have never even heard of maple tea) A cd by Valdy Smorgas Bard..which I am playing right now and LOVE! A tin of smoked salmon pate...my favourite, I can't think how you might have guessed that! A little hand-made soap in the shape of a sheep...far too good to ever use! Stones and shells from the beach....including a stone with a hole in, so I am going to look for a piece of ribbon in a minute so I can wear it...and a wishing stone and a good luck charm and a lovely piece of sea polished glass a map of where LL comes from, and some cards from the local area....pretty enough to frame and a 'friendship bag'...this was where I got teary...which has all sorts of useful things like a quarter to make phone call, a marble ( for when I lose one of mine), a candle, a happy face sticker and a little umbrella for "singing in life's showers". I feel blessed, spoilt and blissful....thank you Barbara, thank you Clinton for a brilliant idea and thank you Max for thinking up the Mudcat Cafe.( Oh dear, this is getting a bit like an Oscar speech).Merry Xmas to everyone and, yes,Mary, I will send a picture when I find the camera. |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Lyrical Lady Date: 24 Dec 01 - 01:08 PM Yeah Morticia !... I'm glad you liked everything ... it was so much fun putting it all together! Here's the best part, when I was shopping for all of the treasures, I told the merchants what I was doing and that I could only spent $20. on everything ... most of them gave me 50% off ... isn't that the greatest! Merry Christmas! LL |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Blackcatter Date: 24 Dec 01 - 11:41 PM COOL! By my watch... 20 minutes left. Getting ready to watch the Christmas show from the Vatican - something I do every year (a I'm not even Christian!) pax yall and be safe out there. |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: SharonA Date: 28 Dec 01 - 10:57 AM Wow! I can't believe that no one's posted here since Christmas Eve; I guess we're all busy playing with our Secret Santa presents, or (as in my case) flocking to all the after-Christmas sales! Anyway, it's high time I posted here to say a great big "THANK YOU" to my Secret Santa, who finally revealed herself to be..... Sarah the Flute! She sent a lovely card with pictures of herself, her family and her band (I love the band's name: "The Flying Chaucers"), and she sent pressies: a Bagpuss "beanie" kitty (a cat AND a stuffed animal, just what I wanted!); a set of coasters with a cat motif that reminds me of my own departed but fondly remembered tiger-cat, Chester; a Horse Racing dice game to commemorate what her area is famous for; and........ drum-roll, please....... MARIGOLDS rubber gloves (labeled as "The prezzie you REALLY wanted!") (yessssss!!!!!!) I actually did manage to wait till it was officially Christmas Day to open the package, though I couldn't wait till I woke up in the morning and instead opened it before I went to bed, after last-minute present-wrapping on Christmas Eve (but it was well after midnight so technically it was indeed Christmas!). And what a great start to the day! Thank you once again, Sarah. Okay, "Marigolds" have been explained to me..... but can someone fill me in on the history of Bagpuss (the kids' TV character, not the Mudcat member)??? For others who are unfamiliar with the character, he/she has pink and white stripes, little blue eyes, and a huge head that consists mainly of a muzzle! Is he/she still on the air in Britain? Does he/she have a website? Today I also found a thank-you PM from my Santee! I'll let my Santee reveal his-or-her own identity on the Forum, if he-or-she chooses, but I do appreciate the note of thanks. Santee: you're welcome!!! I'll be sure to get my picture taken digitally, with presents in hand, very soon and send it to Mary for the Santa/Santee site. I hope everyone who was still waiting for presents before Christmas has received them. This whole Secret Santa exchange has been great fun, and I hope we'll all do it again next year and make it a Mudcat tradition! Thanks yet again to everyone involved!!! Sharon (basking in the happy afterglow of a Secret Santa Christmas!) |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Noreen Date: 28 Dec 01 - 11:30 AM Here you are, Sharon: Bagpuss for beginners and enjoy the Marigolds! (Good one, Sarah!) |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Kim C Date: 28 Dec 01 - 11:32 AM This was all WAY too much fun. Already can't wait till next year! ;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: SharonA Date: 28 Dec 01 - 12:40 PM Thanks, Noreen, for the Bagpuss link! Yeah, I truly was hoping Sarah would send along some Marigolds; I would've been disappointed if she hadn't. I'm definitely keeping the wrapper (which actually DOES say "Marigolds" on it!) for posterity. |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: GUEST,Dani' s Santa Obscura Date: 28 Dec 01 - 01:11 PM It seems Dani's gone missing. We know she got the pressies and was waiting until THE day. Wondering if she lost her computer connection or something? Hope she liked what was sent! |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: SINSULL Date: 29 Dec 01 - 01:25 PM Perfect timing! I came home from visiting my Dad in the hospital. He is not good and I was worrying about what we do next. And there it was! MY SECRET SANTA package shedding enough rose potpourri to create a permanent anthrax scare at the local post office. Peg is my SS. A selection of tiny packages was nestled in a handful of miniature rose buds. So very pretty! First I opened the CD - Rory Black "Gone Woman Blues". It is on now. The title tune is a tribute to Nicole Brown. This lady can sing! Max would love her if he doesn't already have a copy. Next, a teeny package about an inch by an inch and a half containing a complete set (12)of tiny colored pencils. I love tiny things and this has joined my collection of miniatures on the mantepiece. There is a bar of handmade soap (sandalwood?) and beautifully wrapped packages of incense coils. And the final treasure: a dream catcher. Strange but true, I am caring for some cats while a neighbor is away. She has a dream catcher made by her and her boyfriend from feathers collected on hikes and from their friend's exotic birds. After admiring it, I decided to get one for my new home in Portland. And here it is. All this with a beautiful card showing a young girl escorted by elves and mice and birds and carrying the advent candle. Thank you,Peg. I feel restored. And thank you Clinton for making the Secret Santa happen. Pictures to follow. Mary. |
Subject: RE: BS: Seventh Son of the Seventh Secret Santa From: Dani Date: 01 Jan 02 - 08:24 PM You bet I'm late! What a week (was it only a week?) I also owe a big thank you to my Santa. Not only did I wait 'til the day, I waited for LAST!! And what a treat. I'll post photos as soon as possible. The Chicago Manual of Style is right next to the OTHER Bible on the shelf, and has already been put to use. What a luxury to have in my life! I think you will inspire me to get to work. This VERY thoughtful woman also sent me some beautiful tactile treasures of her neighborhood including a lovely piece of petrified wood, and some sand for my collection. Having this come from a mudcatter makes it all the more special! The card was especially gorgeous. Thank you, Kat, and thanks to all the Santa's elves for making this happen. What fun! The Mudcat at its very nicest. Dani |

Glad you liked the "stuff" and you were esp. good waiting until last!! Next year you oughta get everything you ask for and I'll tell Santa so! **BG** Thanks, kat |
