No more does the lark soar so high in the morning. No more does the curlew bestow his soft call The blackbird is hushed and the white dove in mourning For one who is silent, the best of us all. The original song is the Bard of Armagh, the tune is basically the Streets of Laredo. Original song and tune in the DT Good song, Jim. More sad than anything else, but a lot of people are going to connect with that feeling. |

I went to the AP site and gave them a correction to Four Green Fields. Was delighted to see they made the change later in the day (how many others jumped on them about it, I wonder) and he had stuck in the new bit about the lady and her fields. Sigh. He made such a speedy effort to fix it, I just couldn't whine about it again. An ancient aunt who turned me on to a lot of good ballads told me she loved the song for years before someone finally told her it was about the four provinces. She thought it was about the 4 gravesites of her sons. Oh well, even the best of us get confused. |
