hi,

Was sent this by a friend in Scotland.... and had a play around with it last night...

Mediaring

Basically it is another chat thingy where you can talk into mics (if you have them) and hear each other like talking on the phone.... although it is a bit disjointed, (but still much better than Qchat).

BUT... what I really like about it is... that you can send voice messages (not just the 15 secs worth you can do with ICQ)... you can record 15 minutes worth at a time....

so what?.. I hear you ask...... this means if you don't know the tune of something , someone who does could sing you it into a voice mail to let you hear it. I tried this last night.. sent a whistle tune to Scotland...... and got a song back... quality not wonderful but certainly worked.

so if any of you want to give it a try the address is above.

this is great alison... (now I need the microphone)

thanks, I'll check it out. I remember posting a question over a year ago asking if there was a way to sing to each other over the internet.

Hi,

thought I'd refresh this...... for those of you who have wanted to put tunes in and either couldn't use MIDITxt, ABC etc....... using Mediaring you can sing, hum, play a CD track over the net.... and someone at the other end who can do tunes by ear, (like me..... don't know if John does it by ear) can transcribe them for you.

It is really easy to use.. all you need is a mic attached to your computer., and the phone number of the person you want to contact, (I recommend you do that through private messages)

Slainte

Alison, checked out the site earlier. At the moment I don't think I have the right hard/software combinations to make it work, but the references to NT are ambiguous.

Yes Alison I've always played by ear. That's my problem - I'm now working hard to broaden my base to be able to read and write competently. I've always enjoyed arranging so my aim is to be able to score straight from my brain to the dots, while I still have one. I'm due to resume my classical singing in a few weeks so won't have anything like the same amount of time to spend here. With such a great collection of Aussies who are really solid contributors (and bloody nice people) I know that we'll continue to be well represented.

Regards, John

Hi, gang! I just wanted to tell you all what a great program this is. I just downloaded it, after reading Alison's post. It only took about 15 minutes and it is SO EZ! Plus, now you can send voice mail to anyone's email, whether they have the program or not!

I had so much fun. I send me singing a lullaby to my twin, one year old grandsons using this program. The voice message can be up to 15 minutes long. When my daughter heard me singing, in an eamil message, she cried and the babies laughed! Now what does that say for musical taste?**BG**

Anyway, this is really fantastic. You don't have to know how to link things or run midi or anything. Just have a microphone and someone's email address and you can sing to your sweetheart; share a special tune; teach a certain riff; etc! Check it out!

I downloaded it the last time I saw your mention of it Alison. (I think it was when you were helping Big Mick with a song a couple months ago.) I think it is better/easier than NetMeeting--no trying to log onto an ils (or whatever it is) and having alot of unsolicited "idiots" bothering you....

Still need to try out the various features with the upgrade...

Only about 20 min to download and easy to set up.

Mary

Hi all, Will somebody call me and leave a voice mail message so I can test mediaring? I tried webfone a while back and didn't like it but this may be the answer to hearing new melodies on new songs! E-Mail address is harpgirl@prodigy.net The office phone number where I have mediaring installed is 1-850671-4646...harpgirl

I just sent you something by voizmail. I tried to send it to the Mediaring number (your telephone number) but it said you weren't a Mediaring user.

All the best,

Mick
