Subject: RE: Who's this great singer? From: GUEST,JTT Date: 14 Mar 10 - 02:19 PM He's got a strong North of England accent - very attractive, and I love the way it shortens the phrasing. |

Subject: RE: Who's this great singer? From: Bugsy Date: 15 Mar 10 - 01:37 AM Far from a strong North of England accent,m I would have said a Southern Irish accent. The poster, Lissadell 1916 says it's his version of the song. So who is Lissadell 1916? Cheers Bugsy |
|
Subject: RE: Who's this great singer? From: GUEST,JTT Date: 15 Mar 10 - 02:41 AM By Southern Irish you mean someone from Cork or Kerry? Eh? No, I'm Irish, living in Ireland all my life, and I assure you that he has a North of England accent. |

Subject: RE: Who's this great singer? From: Little Robyn Date: 15 Mar 10 - 03:05 AM His profile says he is 49 and his hometown is London. But he certainly has Irish and Scots friends and his music taste seems to be strongly Irish rebel. Don't recognise the voice though. Robyn |

Subject: RE: Who's this great singer? From: VirginiaTam Date: 15 Mar 10 - 03:43 AM says "My version, why? Just because I love it!" This is very difficult to decipher. May be someone else's recording that s/he (Lissadell) has claimed as her/his favourite. In any case it is wonderful rich recording. And now I love it too. So I sent Lissadell a question in Youtube. Maybe we will get an answer. |

Subject: RE: Who's this great singer? From: stallion Date: 15 Mar 10 - 04:09 AM ok I can hear a teeside twang in there and also some irish, so is it someone trying to sing in an irish brogue and other accents are leaching in, possibly irish parents northern upbringing, like the song as presented, show yourself............is it you Sean? |

Subject: RE: Who's this great singer? From: GUEST,JTT Date: 15 Mar 10 - 05:31 AM Yes, I'd say he has Irish parents or grew up with lots of Irish neigbhours, but his phrasing and accent are recognisably English. It's lovely to hear these songs newly interpreted, and in such a beautiful singing voice. |

Subject: RE: Who's this great singer? From: GUEST,Betsy Date: 15 Mar 10 - 06:12 PM I had this message from a mate in Saudi. "... there is an excerpt from Jim's latest album (not released yet) on youtube. Go to youtube and type "jim hanlon remembrance day". I had a session with him at the weekend and he's singing better than ever. His latest songs are all superior to most of his other albums." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H842pbmuDEg ( End of message ) I only divulge because Jim Hanlon ( who I don't know ) and I'm certainly not doing a roundabout publicity !!!!! sounds hellish like the man in question . Could be just a coincidence - or some wag will write that they don't sound like each other - but I think it's quite a good likeness. Cheers Betsy |

Subject: RE: Who's this great singer? From: gnu Date: 12 Nov 10 - 05:03 PM Sounds like some lads up Kent County, New Brunswick, Canada that I know. Give them more ale and they sound more "Irish". Sorry if that sounds flippant, but it's true. In any case, it's kinda fun to guess and certainly to listen to such a fine voice. |

|
Subject: RE: Who's this great singer? From: Steve Gardham Date: 13 Nov 10 - 04:51 PM Definitely not Dave. Not gentle enough or laid back enough. He's obviously learnt it from an Irish recording hence the copied accent. I'd also say northern English, but no recognisable northern accent there. Vaguely familiar, nicely phrased, good backing track, nice visuals, pleasant voice. |

Subject: RE: Who's this great singer? From: Steve Gardham Date: 13 Nov 10 - 04:56 PM To be honest the nearest I could get in little nuances was either Mick McMcGarry or Malcolm Storey but the backing was putting me off. Both of these are from my own home town Hull which is perhaps why I couldn't pinpoint the accent. It's always much harder to pinpoint your own accent especially when it's disguised in some way. Come on, Mr Nobody, are you from Hull, or Leeds perhaps? |
