Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa 2008 From: Liz the Squeak Date: 03 Sep 08 - 12:07 PM I am happy to be used as a UK Go-between if people wish to send parcels from abroad anonymously. I get the package from you, wre-wrap it and post it on... just so long as it isn't too heavy! Getaway attendees have also been known to ferry the odd present across the pond - haven't they Micca! Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa 2008 From: JennieG Date: 08 Sep 08 - 12:36 AM Maybe some of us who have already PM'd Liz haven't said anything in this thread, which is why there may not seem to be as many folk who want to play this year? Like me, for instance? I have enjoyed being both Santa and Santee and look forward to more fun this year. Cheers JennieG |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa 2008 From: My guru always said Date: 08 Sep 08 - 08:30 AM Must admit it would be nice if all the players posted on this thread. It would make it so much easier to do the investigation of who your Santa is *grin* |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa 2008 From: Liz the Squeak Date: 16 Sep 08 - 04:57 AM Halfway through September and there's still time to sign up. I'll repeat for the hard of learning.... PM me your postal name and address - make sure it's a valid address as we've had some packages going astray. If you're going to move house between now and December 24th, let me know so I can pass your details on to your Santa! Put some hints into the Secret Santa Hints thread and play the game! I am in charge, but I am not - repeat NOT responsible. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa 2008 From: SINSULL Date: 16 Sep 08 - 07:28 PM Not this year. Money is tight and I have made it clear that only the family babies are getting gifts this year. The rest will see "Thank Yous" from a local charity. |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa 2008 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 16 Sep 08 - 10:31 PM Sins, I have such a vast array of great things to consider for the gift because of my de-cluttering that the main expense will be postage. Surely you have a spare pink flamingo around somewhere that you can send? If you mail it early enough the postage is a pittance. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa 2008 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 17 Sep 08 - 07:21 PM As every day passes I am more and more ready to shift my attention to this game of sending an anonymous gift and contemplating teasing and cajoling my Santee to guess who I am or what I might be sending. It's such a nice change from the politics and economics and war of the day. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa 2008 From: Tig Date: 18 Sep 08 - 07:03 PM Postage can end up more than you expect SRS. I know that because of the large and varied places Badger sends ebay stuff to! I know how Sins is feeling. I was in that position last year so couldn't play. That's why I'm pleased to be back this year. Hugs |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa 2008 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 18 Sep 08 - 09:24 PM I send eBay stuff to those same places, Tig. Amazing how much some people will pay for some things. An antique music box to Australia from Texas--the shipping cost as much as the box (about $100 each). But it was a beautiful box and I'm sure that once it is restored (probably a minor operation) then it will bring thousands. So it was worth the $100 to get it. Since I wasn't willing to pay a couple hundred to restore it to get a couple of thousand, it worked out for both of us. I intend to keep my shipping costs within reason this holiday season. The earlier you ship, and if you pack it well, it will get there safe and sound and inexpensively. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa 2008 From: JennieG Date: 19 Sep 08 - 03:02 AM And of course Oz is such a long way from anywhere that we have to take postage costs into consideration! But I have budgeted for postage. Cheers JennieG |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa 2008 From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 19 Sep 08 - 04:15 AM I found that posting an A4 envelope overseas - ie. booklets & other flat stuff - was cheaper & easier than sending 3-dimensional stuff, cos parcel rates are calculated using some esoteric formula depending on the length, width, depth, weight or whatever else the person behind the counter decides. Also envelopes don't need a customs declaration, so contents can be kept secret! So far the stuff I have collected for potential Santees is meant to fit into envelopes, but it just depends on my santee's list what I end up sending. All previous Santees have ended up with something in a parcel of some kind. sandra |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa 2008 From: GUEST,SECSY Date: 19 Sep 08 - 07:36 AM As a non participant, I'm happy to forward a certain number of gifts on from secret locations. In previous years, if an organised Santa in the US got a Santee in the UK, then parcels were handed over that the Getaway to willing mules.. sorry, couriers, and they handed them over to me to forward on. It works quite well and up to postage of £5 I'm happy to participate. SECSY LTS |

I'll make the draw next Wednesday or Thursday.... watch your PM's folks! Stilly - I've been very wary of those chocolate scented parcels ever since someone sent me some chocolate scented hand made soaps and they weren't labelled 'do not eat'.... I'm a lot older and much wiser since those days though. Now I test everything out on the child first. Art - no need to send me any more peanut brittle thanks, I'm still working my way through last years! LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa 2008 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 25 Sep 08 - 11:46 AM do a search for some of the html practice threads here at mudcat. They're all over, and usually once you find one the others are linked in the top of the thread. the movement is a tag called "marquee" and the font size is simply font size=+12 or whatever size. You have to open and close fonts to change colors. All tucked in carets, of course. < and the other one. SRS |
