Subject: RE: Obit: Funeral Arrangements for Col K. R.I.P From: Banjiman Date: 05 Sep 07 - 04:57 AM We will also not make the funeral on Friday. Wendy will dedicate the "The Visitor" to him at her gig on Saturday night, which seems fitting given it's subject matter. We will also be donating to RNLI. We didn't know him well but he did touch our lives and make a difference. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Funeral Arrangements for Col K. R.I.P From: Mary Humphreys Date: 05 Sep 07 - 05:07 AM I am sorry that Anahata and I won't be able to get to the funeral or wake. Sing a song on our behalf please - something loud and happy! Colin was one of the best stewards we have ever had the privilege of meeting at a festival - nothing was ever too much trouble and he was unfailingly cheerful, helpful and full of enthusiasm. Our sincere condolences to all his family. I hope it is some consolation to know how much he was loved and respected by the whole folk community. And, thanks to Theresa for putting the information about donating over the phone to the RNLI. Ours has gone in today. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Funeral Arrangements for Col K. R.I.P From: MBSLynne Date: 05 Sep 07 - 05:37 AM I can't make it either as my aged parents are arriving from Australia tomorrow for an all too brief stay. I will go to my quiet place in the garden at the right time and send my thoughts to you all and to Col. I hate crematoria funerals anyway, but I would have liked to sing him on his way. There's something very healing about a large crowd of folkie friends belting out a big chorus in someone's memory. The photo link on the other thread of Col and duckling is so beautiful, I will hold that in my mind as I do my little solitary ritual. I think from now on, Father Christmas will have ColK's face for me..... Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Obit: Funeral Arrangements for Col K. R.I.P From: GUEST,SaltburnFF Date: 05 Sep 07 - 05:51 AM We were so sorry to hear of Colin's passing. Saltburn Folk Festival will not be the same without him. He was one of those very special people who is everybody's friend: problems simply dissappeared when he was around to be replaced with smiles. We will remember Colin and be proud to say "We knew Colin Kemp." Paul & John |
Subject: RE: Obit: Funeral Arrangements for Col K. R.I.P From: JennyO Date: 05 Sep 07 - 06:59 AM I think from now on, Father Christmas will have ColK's face for me..... Lynne, the first time I took part in Secret Santa, in 2003, it was Col's face for me. He was my Secret Santa. And a fine and generous one he was, too. You're right, that is a beautiful photo. I'm just sorry I never got to meet him. Of course, I can't make it to the funeral either, being in Oz, but I will stop and think about him at the appropriate time. What a great loss for us! And a bit of a wake up call for me too, considering I am 3 years older than him, and don't take as much care of my health as I should. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Funeral Arrangements for Col K. R.I.P From: Titch@Leeds Date: 05 Sep 07 - 07:19 AM I will be there. I shall be taking the car into Leeds to work, and will be planning on leaving city centre at 11am (ish), so if anyone would like a ride to Skipton, please call. As part of my contribution to Colin, I am opening up my place for people who are coming a long way. There are a couple of beds for those who have bad backs, but it will mainly be floor space, but there is plenty of that. The thing is, I have to know you first! Marie |

Subject: RE: Obit: Funeral Arrangements for Col K. R.I.P From: GUEST,GUEST Mike'nHilary Date: 05 Sep 07 - 09:42 AM We'll be there at the crem and we've got three spare seats for the trip to the "do". Anyone welcome to them, it's a big blue Fiat Doblo, first come first served ! |
Subject: RE: Obit: Funeral Arrangements for Col K. R.I.P From: Schantieman Date: 05 Sep 07 - 10:53 AM I'd like to be there - but again, I won't get time off work to go. I could make it to Nelson by about 6 if it'll be going on all evening. And then I could take people back to stations and things, if that's any use. Steve |
Subject: RE: Obit: Funeral Arrangements for Col K. R.I.P From: Noreen Date: 05 Sep 07 - 11:08 AM I have just been told that I CAN be spared on Friday, so I will be there with all you lovely people. Subject: RE: Obit: Funeral Arrangements for Col K. R.I.P From: GUEST,RichardMReid Date: 05 Sep 07 - 12:07 PM Walking back to my room in Tokyo, the wind blowing and the rain masking my sadness, there is a typhoon coming but somehow I'm not scared, in my mind's eye I can still picture Colin, the big friendly shantyman who had time and a caring word for everyone, even a brash young Muldoon. My life is enriched to have known him and my thoughts will be with all his family and friends as from across the oceans I join in the final sing off. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Funeral Arrangements for Col K. R.I.P From: treaties1 Date: 05 Sep 07 - 12:33 PM Wow!! what a great response so far. Thank you all, especially the help with blue clickys and the insertation of late news. There is no finishing time for the Big Sing so late arrivals needn't worry.but should it peter out early the club is in walking distance of Eileen and Maurice's where a "gentle wake" might continue. We are hoping to create a Friendship type Photo Album for Col's Mum so if you have a great photo print of Colin with other folkies, it would be great if you'd bring them along annotated on the back with details of who, what, when, and where. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Funeral Arrangements for Col K. R.I.P From: Jock O' Dreams Date: 05 Sep 07 - 12:44 PM I shall be driving up from Portsmouth early Friday morning so hope to make the service, roads permiting! The Big Yin deserves a good send off! Jim McAdams |
Subject: RE: Obit: Funeral Arrangements for Col K. R.I.P From: Big Mick Date: 05 Sep 07 - 12:56 PM I won't be able to make the trip across the pond, but it is not from lack of desire that this is so. Col, judging from these posts, was one of those giants that occasionally tread the path, touching all that come within the sacred circle of his presence, and leaves them feeling the warmth that only great hearts possess. Were I able to be there, I would certainly sing a song that ere I have only sung once publicly, at the funeral of my best friend. And that would be Dave Carter's "When I Go", which I became aware of from Jeri. It is a stunning lyic, and I would have been honored to sing it for all of you on behalf of this gentle giant of a friend. I commend to all of you, as you ponder, in this time of sorrow, the frailties of this life, the last verse of this wonderful song:

Subject: RE: Obit: Funeral Arrangements for Col K. R.I.P From: My guru always said Date: 06 Sep 07 - 04:10 AM Though I wish I could be at Col's funeral to say my Goodbyes, as for many others my day job has got in the way. I'll be able to get home for 1pm, so I'll spend some quiet time with Richard while the service is on. We'll also try to get along to a Sing or Club during the evening to sing in Col's memory, and will certainly be making a donation to the RNLI. While looking for a card to send to Col's Mum yesterday, one almost jumped out of the rack and will be posted today. It simply says: A life that touched so many will never be forgotten. Many thoughts are with you today Wishing safe journey to all travelling to Col's Leave-taking and thanks are due to all who are helping to make it possible for so many of Col's friends to join together for this day, either with arrangements, lifts, floor space, information or blue clickies.
