Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,The Input Date: 30 Apr 08 - 02:18 PM I wasn't aware it was a competition Captain B. Anyway, "whenever he has booked me he has treated me fairly' - what are you implying? That the Pickering crowd won't? We have been here before and I'm ready for round two! :-) I guess you can kiss any future gigs at Pickering Folk Festival goodbye then. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: The Sandman Date: 30 Apr 08 - 03:47 PM I am not implying anything just stating a fact.Iknow nothing about Pickering that is why I would show loyalty to Saltburn, thats mychoice. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: daughter Date: 30 Apr 08 - 07:41 PM YEP, Input (whoever you are?!) I'm going! I'll be spending some of the season Morris dancing, some of the season singing in sessions, some of it watching local artists at tiny traditional village festivals and some of it taking in big concerts at a whole range of atmospheric venues (small to enormous)! Why do we always have to have this old chestnut of a debate? Most people are actually agreeing here deep down - there are individual artists and bands we may love and some we don't, it's not about whether they fit some mould or certain criteria or not! These constant trad vs commercial debates actually create the wrong impressions of supporters of both - traddies aren't as cliquey as they are portrayed and "main-stream" (for want of a much better word) concert goers are not as scathing about us finger-in-the-ear types as would be suggested. Anyway, have a big hug and allow threads like these to stick to their point - giving useful and welcome information about more wonderful music events........ that's getting a bit too loving and groovy now, isn't it. See you at Pickering those that are going and see you on different threads about other festivals! Alie x |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: Tig Date: 30 Apr 08 - 08:01 PM Just another greenfield festival. What do I see? A greenfield. What date is it - oh, must be Pickering! How marvellous to be in Pickerings greenfield, with its individual GRASS - and perhaps bespoke MUD. Guest The Input is either the organiser or a lackey who has decided to swoop on Mudcat as cheap advertising. Got your stewards interviewed yet Input? You appear to lack any understanding of what a folk festival is but understand too well what a fast buck is. The Badger. |

Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,The Input Date: 01 May 08 - 06:18 AM My dear Badger, I am NOT involved with Pickering or any other festival other than wanting to attend. I felt the need to defend this festival and it's organisers for a several reasons. 1) I'm an ardent fan of most of the acts that are appearing at Pickering 2) I'm an ardent fan of this kind of 'greenfield' festival 3) I hate f*****g bullies, and that's exactly what you are! Why don't you give the organisers a break. I hope they sell out with this event and make lots and lots of fast bucks. 4) I have EVERY understanding of what a folk festival is. I've been to enough. 5) Why would I want to interview stewards dickbrain? I'm contemplating being one! Duh!!! 6) Regarding 'cheap advertising' - This is the LAST place I'd want to advertise a DECENT folk festival if I were the organiser. Talk about falling on deaf ears. 7) Methinks that maybe YOU have an axe to grind. Is it affecting ticket sales? Your friend - The Input |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,The Beer Token Date: 01 May 08 - 07:08 AM This is all becoming a bit nasty people. I'm with Alie. Why don't you all just go to whatever fetival that you all want to go to and not get so personal about it. Me - I'm probably going to go to Pickering. If any other catters are going it'd be nice to meet up. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: Herga Kitty Date: 01 May 08 - 04:11 PM Alie is listed in Tee's opening post as performing with Steve on Sunday afternoon (Second Stage), so I'm not surprised she's posted that she'll be going. I think I'll be in South Zeal, though, so will have to meet up with the Beer Token some other time! (Whitby?) Kitty |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,The Input Date: 01 May 08 - 04:29 PM Let me apologise for my outburst earlier. I feel slightly embarrassed about it now. I do get very annoyed when individuals make assumptions about various things that affect me. I'm sorry but that's just the way I am. I shall make a point too of calling the Pickering festival organisers as I appear to have painted them in a bad light too, particularly as I've now been accused of being part of their team. Once again, I'm sorry. |

Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: Dennis the Elder Date: 08 Jun 08 - 11:58 AM Its all looking good, some excellent singers artists etc. Managed to get me a job there for the three days and with a little luck have my choice of stages and earn money at the same time. The organisers (www.theeventsoffice.co.uk) based in Pickering are hoping for a good turnout and if successful will make a good anual event Dennis |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,TEE Date: 28 Jun 08 - 04:01 AM Update on Pickering Folk Festival - June 28th Latest additions to the weekend's festivities include fabulous new singer/somgwriter Jon Lacey appearing on the second stage, first up on Saturday lunchtime. As was previously announced, Wendy arrowsmith will be appearing on Sunday lunchtime on the second stage. The line-up for both main stages in now complete. In addition, great festival favourites, reggae band T&LaTouche, will be performing at the LNE on Saturday night from 00.15 until 2am. We have added ceilidhs to the programme on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons and they will be held in the Events Arena. Please note one programme change - Martin Carthy & Dave Swarbrick will now be appearing last on the main stage on Sunday afternoon and not, as previously published, first on in the evening. Jo Freya's 'Lal Waterson Project' will now be first on in the evening. We have been asked by several customers. who is Liam O'Maonlai and why is he headlining? ? Liam is the lead singer with The Hothouse Flowers and a great sean nos singer and multi-instrumentalist. That's why he's headlining the second stage on Saturday evening. Ticket are currently selling extremely well and we would advise any potential customers to book sooner rather than later. |

Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: theleveller Date: 02 Jul 08 - 11:46 AM Going to get there as close to 12 as possible to get a good spot for the caravan and avoid the traffic. Anyone know the site and have any idea where the best spot is likely to be (want to be as close as possible to the beer tent and far away from anyone who we're likely to annoy with our singing)? |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: Gedpipes Date: 02 Jul 08 - 12:38 PM which pubs are going to musician session friendly? |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: Banjiman Date: 02 Jul 08 - 01:25 PM I don't know about pubs but I see from the website that you can buy £2 arena tickets that allow you access to everything on the Showground (so I assume sessions and singarounds)except the 2 main stages. Here's a link to the website that might work as well. Paul |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: nutty Date: 02 Jul 08 - 03:33 PM I think perhaps that Ged was referring to pubs in Pickering. The organisers did say, in their initial publicity, that the town was going to be fully involved. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,The Bastard Son Of Marty Feldman Date: 02 Jul 08 - 08:40 PM I thought the original publicity said that the local businesses would benefit from the festival. I think it's fairly obvious that, as the site is a mile from the town, has two beer tents and covers a vast expanse of land , that they probably won't be using the pubs in town for music. It's clearly a festival that is to be held on one site only. Much the way that Cambridge is. I for one don't want to go trapsing around Pickering looking for a session. I'm happy staying put in the temporary nation that is Pickering Folk Festival. And you nutty need to stop trying to wind everyone up again. Are you still bitter? |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: nutty Date: 02 Jul 08 - 08:48 PM I am not in the least bit bitter , nor am I trying to wind anyone up, but I am as entitled as you are to voice an opinion. I am merely wondering where all there thousands of people, who are going to benefit the local economy, are coming from. If as you say, the festival is going to be confined to the showground - what would be the point of putting on transport to take people to and from the town? Something the organisers say they have arranged. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,The Bastard Son Of Marty Feldman Date: 02 Jul 08 - 08:58 PM I've said that the festival is confined to the showground, yes, but there's nothing stopping people going into the town at any point to take a look around. After all, Pickering is a lovely place. I think it's great that the organisers are laying on a bus to take people from the site to the town. I live near Pickering so it doesn't interest me. I hope they do get thousands of people. They deserve to with the line-up they've produced. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: Banjiman Date: 03 Jul 08 - 03:28 AM "If as you say, the festival is going to be confined to the showground - what would be the point of putting on transport to take people to and from the town? Something the organisers say they have arranged." Nutty, have you heard something to say that this is not the case? You sound doubtful? Paul |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: nutty Date: 03 Jul 08 - 03:33 AM I think it's fairly obvious that, as the site is a mile from the town, has two beer tents and covers a vast expanse of land , that they probably won't be using the pubs in town for music. Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: theleveller Date: 03 Jul 08 - 03:41 AM Nutty, the point of putting on transport is that parking in Pickering is a nightmare, so it makes sense to avoid further congestion and still give people a chance to walk around town, which has some fantastic foods shops and other attractions. We will be bringing our bikes so that if we want to go into town we can do so under our own steam. Personally, with a young daughter, I don't want to go to singarounds in town pubs - I much prefer it being all on the one site. If all else fails, our caravan awning has seen many a good singaround - often late into the night (bring your own booze!). TBSOMF, I love that phrase 'temporary nation' - puts me in mind of Woodstock (oh dear, showing my age now). Come on, nutty, give it a chance - let's see how it works out. If it's as good as it promises to be, it'll replace Cambridge for me from now on. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: Banjiman Date: 03 Jul 08 - 03:42 AM "I think it was guest who provided the doubt." You've kind of lost me there? The guest clearly says buses will be provided, you seem to cast some doubt on this..... have you heard something that the rest of us don't know? Not that I can see us leaving the showground, greenfield Festivals are so much easier with children than festivals with multiple locations scattered around a town (though we do still go to these). They actually feel like a holiday! Cheers Paul |
