Subject: Kate Rusby Overkill From: The Borchester Echo Date: 16 Feb 04 - 08:07 AM I'd heard KR was employing a full-time publicist. But isn't spreading it across 4 Mudcat threads going just a teensy bit too far? |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Sttaw Legend Date: 16 Feb 04 - 08:18 AM After putting this thread up you must have the job Countess. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: The Borchester Echo Date: 16 Feb 04 - 08:20 AM 'Twas my point exactly ;-) |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: GUEST,davy Date: 16 Feb 04 - 08:21 AM Yup, no publicity's bad! The fan club seems to have gone into overdrive! Personally it puts me off! |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: The Borchester Echo Date: 16 Feb 04 - 08:26 AM And that was my secondary point. Anybody with a didgytelly and time to sit in front of it will no doubt do so anyway. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Bobjack Date: 16 Feb 04 - 08:30 AM Tape it for me will you Dave? I live in a hole and can't get BBC 4. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Bobjack Date: 16 Feb 04 - 08:32 AM Cancel that Dave. I thought you were talking about Kate Bush. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: The Borchester Echo Date: 16 Feb 04 - 08:36 AM Ooooooh! Katy Cruel... |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Phot Date: 16 Feb 04 - 08:46 AM I'd rather see Kate Bush than Kate Rusby anyday! |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: GUEST,Sledge Date: 16 Feb 04 - 08:49 AM Someone gets a bit of success and out come the nitpickers. Sledge |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: GUEST,Hopeful Date: 16 Feb 04 - 08:50 AM I would rather see them both together. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Bobjack Date: 16 Feb 04 - 08:54 AM You perv! Katie Boyle anyone? |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: GUEST,Hopeful Date: 16 Feb 04 - 09:05 AM All three if you wish, who's counting. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: GUEST,Katie Boyle Date: 16 Feb 04 - 09:10 AM Game on! I am up for it if you can arrange Mr Hopeful. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Bobjack Date: 16 Feb 04 - 09:23 AM I bet this encounter will only appear on BBC 4 as well. Bugger! |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: The Borchester Echo Date: 16 Feb 04 - 09:30 AM I see from another thread that this is going to involve shirt-hopping with an all-male band... |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: artbrooks Date: 16 Feb 04 - 10:23 AM Would be nice if we could see her in the States...ever. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: GUEST,Davy Date: 16 Feb 04 - 10:29 AM Interesting how K.R.seems to generate extremes of feeling in people! |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: GUEST,Davy Date: 16 Feb 04 - 10:31 AM Martin Carthy doesn't seem to cause that effect! |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: The Borchester Echo Date: 16 Feb 04 - 10:38 AM artbrooks: KR went to the US once but didn't like the flying bit. I could get very extreme about MC... |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Dave the Gnome Date: 16 Feb 04 - 10:41 AM Who's Kate Busby? Does she wear a big hat... :D |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: GUEST,Buffy the pigeon slayer Date: 16 Feb 04 - 10:44 AM MC who? MC Hammer? |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Dave Hanson Date: 16 Feb 04 - 10:45 AM countess you must be a very very busy person judging by the amount initials you use instead of names. Having met Martin Carthy a couple of times I will not hear a word against him. eric |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Dave Hanson Date: 16 Feb 04 - 10:49 AM but anyway I thought I'd logged on to a Kate Rusby website. eric |

Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: GUEST,Chris B (Born Again Scouser) Date: 16 Feb 04 - 10:57 AM Now, Kate Rusby, Kate Bush, Katie Boyle and Kate Moss.... |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: GUEST Date: 16 Feb 04 - 11:03 AM Kate had a Boyle on her Bush when she Rus-by and slipped on the Moss |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Bobjack Date: 16 Feb 04 - 11:06 AM Could someone set up a Katie Boyle thread for me please? I can't remember how to do it, and I am sure their be a lot interest out there for this fine woman. Spam, marmite and oxo. Divine. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: John MacKenzie Date: 16 Feb 04 - 11:07 AM Strikes me that the Kate in Taming of the Shrew, may be more fitting here! John |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: The Borchester Echo Date: 16 Feb 04 - 11:08 AM Not too busy, unfortunately, to stop me spending far too much time online, eric. Mr Carthy is *extremely* good. So's MC Hammer. Dunno about MC Fat though... |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Cluin Date: 16 Feb 04 - 11:27 AM "Kiss me Kate!" Where's your Kate, then? Is that like a "Mary"? |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: GUEST,Van Date: 16 Feb 04 - 01:17 PM Fair does to the girl. "underneath the stars" is divine. I don't know any of her other songs but for this alone the lass deserves sainthood. |
Subject: How many Kate Rusby Threads? From: fiddler Date: 16 Feb 04 - 03:50 PM At the risk of promulgating yet another thread about this young thing how many do we think we can support b4 we see mudcat remaned the Kate Rusby-Mudcat Cafe! Sorry John Mc I moved this message here from another thread on the same topic. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Joe Offer Date: 16 Feb 04 - 07:51 PM Sometime today, somebody posted messages about the Kate Rusby television performance on 20 February, more-or-less the same message on each of several threads. After that, two threads were started to complain about the multiple Rusby threads. I moved all the television notices into one thread, and all the complaints into this one. I'm sure that Kate appreciates all the enthusiasm, but in general, we allow only one thread per subject to be running at a time. Thanks. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Dave Hanson Date: 17 Feb 04 - 04:49 AM Someone exhibiting signs of common sense Joe, on the Mudcat, this won't do at all. eric |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: GUEST,Strollin' Johnny Date: 17 Feb 04 - 08:11 AM But ain't it great to see all this radio and TV exposure, and of course Mudcat Threads, for a genuinely nice, talented and modest lass. Makes a nice change from listening to pillocks like Gareth Effing Gates/Robbie Head-Up-His-Own-Rectum Williams/Christina Words-Fail-Me Aguilera/Beyonce (what kinda stoopid made-up name's that?) Knowles et al. IMHO. :0) |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Dave Hanson Date: 17 Feb 04 - 10:08 AM Got to agree 100% there mate. I'm not particularly a Kate Rusby fan but she's got more tallent than all that lot put together. eric |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: John MacKenzie Date: 17 Feb 04 - 10:15 AM Wasn't all this fuss when June Tabor was on Woman's Hour last week! John |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: GUEST,davy Date: 17 Feb 04 - 10:51 AM Exactly John there's a whole lot more talent out there that isn't being recognised. Nothing against her, but some of the pluggers are beginning to irritate! |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: The Borchester Echo Date: 17 Feb 04 - 10:59 AM Was June Tabor on then? I wish somebody had said... I heard the Witches of Elswick on there by chance a few weeks ago. In fact, Woman's Hour on BBC R4 is by far the best place to hear English traditional music. A whole lot more likely than on the MH show anyway... |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: GUEST,Strollin' Johnny Date: 17 Feb 04 - 11:47 AM Well, if Kate's the Princess of Folk, June must be the Queen! What a voice, and still doing the rounds of live concerts - magnificent! But when she were a lass, she got similar attention to what Kate's getting now didn't she? Lots of media attention. Just proves there's nowt wrong wi' a bit of popularity? |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Joe Offer Date: 17 Feb 04 - 12:20 PM I had wondered what all the fuss was about, since I hadn't heard Kate Rusby and knew nothing about her. I picked up a couple of her CD's last week, and I really loved them. She has a beautiful voice, and she interprets the songs wonderfully. How old is she, anyhow? -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Bobjack Date: 17 Feb 04 - 12:23 PM Mid 20's. Do she not have her own website? never looked myself |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Bobjack Date: 17 Feb 04 - 12:24 PM Now, back to my Katy Boyle thread where the real action is! |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 17 Feb 04 - 12:26 PM katerusby.com lyrics to her songs are there as well. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: GUEST,Rain Dog Date: 17 Feb 04 - 12:36 PM I would also recommend the cd 'Kate Rusby & Kathryn Roberts' by Kate Rusby and Kathryn Roberts Well worth a listen |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: The Borchester Echo Date: 17 Feb 04 - 01:03 PM Strollin' Johnny, No, quite the opposite, if I recall. When exactly are you talking about? From the mid 60s after uni to the mid 70s, June Tabor had a full-time job as a librarian. Then she made her debut solo recording Airs and Graces and then Silly Sisters with Maddy Prior in 1976. Till then, certainly, she'd had a cult following among those in the know but she did only occasional club bookings. After that she ran a restaurant in the Lake District. I'd say she's always been grossly underrated simply because she chose not to devote herself to a full-time musical career and the attendant constant touring. I'm so glad she's at last getting some of the recognition she deserves. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Nerd Date: 17 Feb 04 - 02:00 PM I wasn't aware that Kate Rusby rarely came to the US. A few years ago, I wrote some concert notes and was MC (note: not Martin Carthy or MC Hammer, but Master of Ceremonies) at one of her US gigs. I just assumed she toured here with the same frequency as MC (note: Martin Carthy this time). Just goes to show I'm too busy to pay much attention these days. (But not too busy to f*ck around making MC jokes!) |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: Compton Date: 18 Feb 04 - 12:33 PM Guest, Rain Dog....don't you think that's an awfully original title for a CD "Kate Rusby and Kathryn Richards"....what was the deep significance in that title? ..apart from the fact it was made by Kate Rusby and Kathryn Richards...Is this a contender for original title of the year? |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Overkill From: The Borchester Echo Date: 18 Feb 04 - 01:54 PM It would be truly original if Kate Rusby had made a CD with Kathryn Richards. Don't think she knows anyone of this name. I don't, anyway. However, can I recommend one she *did* make with Kathryn Roberts? Oh...Raindog already did... |
