Subject: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: Dr. Bob Date: 03 Dec 99 - 05:53 PM I am looking to hear from people who own or have played the Larrivee Pete Anderson model. I am attracted to it as second guitar to my OM 28 V. I like the 12 fret neck, sunburst finish, maple body, the excellent price, and fishman pickup. General thoughts? Thanks, DRBOB |
Subject: RE: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: catspaw49 Date: 03 Dec 99 - 06:35 PM Sorry, haven't played one, but I am a believer in Larrivee. Jean Larrivee is a gifted and innovative luthier and though the company has greatly increased in size, they are still helpful and "natural" kind of folks building some of the finest guitars around. The new baby Larrivee is getting rave reviews around here and their line of road guitars are tops. I'll be anxious too, to hear from an owner/player. I just don't think you can go wrong with them. Subject: RE: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: JedMarum Date: 03 Dec 99 - 06:43 PM Check out the Larrivee threads here at Mudcat, as Spaw says ... also, I own a J10 and love it. I have played most of their models and don't recall which one is which. They are definately the best guitar on the market today. I love the fishman setup in mine. I use the J10 for performance, and don't use a mic on stage. The sound is superb; full range, deep bottom, crisp highs, excellent separation. I will try the Pete Anderson this weekend at my local guitar shop, and let you know what I think next week. I love the body type, and finishe. |
Subject: RE: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: Willie-O Date: 03 Dec 99 - 07:20 PM So who's Pete Anderson? |
Subject: RE: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: Sandy Paton Date: 03 Dec 99 - 09:48 PM I haven't seen the Pete Anderson, but I have two Larrivees, one of them recently kidnapped by my younger son who refuses to return it. Rick Fielding borrowed it once or twice and then offered to buy it from me (before he found his "Woody"). That's evidence of approval. My other guitar was made by Grit Laskin, who was once an apprentice of Larrivee. I think Larrivee makes some of the finest "production" guitars in North America. One of mine has Fishman aboard, but aside from testing it out here at home and deciding it was the best sounding (most natural) pickup I'd ever tried, I don't use it. Too old to change my ways, I guess. Sandy |
Subject: RE: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: catspaw49 Date: 03 Dec 99 - 11:17 PM Yes, but Sandy also sold my friend Cletus the soundhole from one of his Larrivees, so how can you trust a guy like that? Cletus has spent months trying to string it up! Its not nice to cheat the terminally stupid you old folk fogey. Spaw - DR.BOB-Just so you know, the above is just a joke!!! Sandy is the most honest of men and I always pick hardest on those undeniable traits. And the only place Cletus exists is at Mudcat....and in my mind. |
Subject: RE: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 03 Dec 99 - 11:20 PM Although I'm the lone dissenter in the Larivée travel vs. Baby Taylor threads, from my experience the company does make excellent guitars. Our "girl singer," as Charlie introduces her, Nancy, has a Larivée--I'm not sure of the model, but it's both beautiful to look at and a great playing instrument. I've also played a number of the company's other full size guitars at Guitar Center and left drool all over them. Luckily I made it out of the store before anybody tried to collect damages. --seed |
Subject: RE: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: Rick Fielding Date: 04 Dec 99 - 12:30 AM Sandy, come back. Has Robin decided I can buy the Larrivee? Maybe I can sweeten the pot. I love "Woody", but that damn axe SPOKE TO ME! This is a family site so I won't say what it said! Rick |
Subject: RE: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: Rick Fielding Date: 04 Dec 99 - 12:31 AM and who is Pete Anderson? |
Subject: RE: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: catspaw49 Date: 04 Dec 99 - 12:32 AM Rick....You'll have to negotiate with Cletus for the soundhole. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: JedMarum Date: 04 Dec 99 - 09:28 AM Pete Anderson is Dwight Yoakam's guitar player. Larrivees web page has a News Release item about the guitar. Apparently it is one of their OM models with a tobacco suburst finish. They also have a News Release on their Parlor Guitar - that's the 'Baby' Larrivee is superbthread where we've been talking about their other new guitar. |
Subject: RE: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: Rick Fielding Date: 04 Dec 99 - 12:53 PM DWIGHT YOAKAM'S GUITAR PLAYER?! For this I wasted 30 seconds of typing time? I've been had! But thanks Liam. You're one of my favourite cats. Almost always (nobody's perfect) have something pertinent to say. Rick |
Subject: RE: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: DRBOB Date: 04 Dec 99 - 03:12 PM Pete Anderson is a well-known country and rock producer best known for producing, arranging, and playing lead guitar on (I believe) all of Dwight Yoakum's albums. I believe he may have also produced one of Michelle Shocked's CD's. He also has at least two solo recordings out, which lean toward very electric country-rock-soul. He is a great musician - not sure how he hooked up with Larrivee, since they are not really known for signature models." BTW, I went and ordered the Pete Anderson model in a LEFTY, and will report my experiences. BVS |
Subject: RE: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: Willie-O Date: 04 Dec 99 - 08:26 PM Damn...and I thought Dwight Yoakum played his own guitar. with Mammy on the washbo'd and Lil Abner on the washtub bass. Fry ma hide. (See the dialectizer. Dial up redneck.)] Willie-o

Subject: RE: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: GUEST,noel Date: 11 Feb 10 - 08:23 PM i have a 98 signed pete anderson prototype to his signature. this one is sc, yellow/black sunburst, 14 frets to the neck, with some incredibly good wood going on as well. it is one beautiful sounding guitar. more balanced and brighter than my 55 d-28. don't see how you could go wrong, but the neck at the 12th fret would make a difference. likely more parlor guitar sounding, not sure... |
Subject: RE: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: GUEST,Ross Date: 12 Feb 10 - 09:11 AM Hey, I own the Pete Anderson Larrivee and absolutely love it! I don't play it a lot but when I do, I always enjoy it. Being a huge Pete Anderson fan for many years drew me to this guitar but also being familiar with Larrivee guitars as I have sold them in the music store I work at helps too. The quality is excellent, sound and construction. Interesting color and I have never seen a guitar with sunburst on the sides before. I like the idea of the 12th fret meeting at the body as it's a little rare and just different from my other acoustics. I have never had to adjust the truss rod once even after trying different gauge strings. The Fishman pickup works fine although these days there may be better sounding ones (debatable)with volume control. All in all, a great guitar that I am proud to own. I have had many people try it and hear and are amazed at the sound. Good luck! Ross |

Subject: RE: Guitar: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: GUEST,James Clayberg Date: 29 Jul 10 - 06:52 PM Friend, I have owned a 12 fret model Larrivee Pete Anderson. An absolute wonderful instrument! A real joy to play, with a voice from heaven...I truly loved mine. |
Subject: RE: Guitar: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: GUEST,Guest from Sanity Date: 30 Jul 10 - 11:01 AM The 'Presentation' model Larrivee, I consider about the best guitar, that there is! They spit in the milk of Taylors, which I think are vastly overrated...after you've played a Larrivee!!! Also, Thomsley,a luthier/guitar maker for Larrivee, now has a line of excellent guitars as well. I have a 'Sea Turtles' edition, that is fantastic! Thomsley's wife was also the one who did the inlay work for both Larrivees and Thomsley. The name 'Sea Turtles' comes from the wood inlay, which is magnificent, on the headstock, and extends onto the first frets! Everything on the guitar, including the purfling is all wood!!..and beautifully done. A masterpiece! GfS |
Subject: RE: Guitar: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: GUEST Date: 10 Dec 11 - 09:26 AM Do any of you guys happen to know the range in years that the Pete Anderson model was in production? And roughly what they might cost? |
Subject: RE: Guitar: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: GUEST,Noel Date: 13 Aug 15 - 06:37 PM Expensive now, even the small 12th fret jobs are bringing 3k or better... |
Subject: RE: Guitar: Larrivee Pete Anderson - need opinions From: GUEST Date: 14 Aug 15 - 03:58 AM Why ask other people's opinion? Does it sound good? Do you find it easy to play? Is it the right size for you? Do you like the way it looks? Does it sound good plugged in? Is it within your budget ? If the answer to all the above questions is yes then buy it ... if not, don't. Doesn't matter if it's a Larrivee or an Argos £10 special. |
