Subject: Internet Radio WITH Archived Shows From: wysiwyg Date: 04 Feb 04 - 05:56 PM COrrect me if I missed it, but I don't recall a radio thread about archived music. So, where are the goodies? Show name and/or station call letters, how long are shows archived, your favorite shows (style), link to the storeroom? A few of mine: BluesLand.Net Blues Audio Archive, indifinitely. Great blues-wimmin's song samples/bio's in It's a Girl Thang. A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION, archived indefinitely, gos back YEARS. All styles. Shows seem to focus on different genres different weeks. Timed playlists included. Easy search. KFAI Fresh Air, two weeks, shows in all genres and stuff we like around here. Most shows include playlists. Go to the program guide to find links for the shows to see what genre each one is. Songs of Praise (Black Gospel) and Blueslady Time Machine are both excellent. The folk programs also look good. World music too. ~S~ |

Subject: RE: Internet Radio WITH Archived Shows From: Cuilionn Date: 04 Feb 04 - 09:15 PM Aye, BBC/Radio Scotland haes a hantle o grait archivit material. There's a weekly shaw aboot bagpipe music, ("Pipeline"), at least hauf-a-dozen shaws aboot folklore & folk music, an plenty o ithers. Maist shaws are archivit wi short-term availability (ye can play back that particular shaw for a week, until the next week's shaw comes on), but Ah hear there's some pawky way tae get past that an find a hale archive o weeks & weeks o auld shaws. There's alsae a shareware program that allows ye tae record shaws aff the net, but Ah dinnae ken whit the program is or whaur tae find it. A piper freend o mine records the "Pipeline" shaws ontae CD for personal, non-commercial use sae she can study the tradition(s) an lairn the occasional tune as weel. E'en when we're no listenin in for the music, 'tis unco guid fun tae tune in tae Radio Scotland-- they hae the best weather reports, for ane thing. Ma favourite wis the day they announcit the followin: "Today's weather: in the West, dreary. In the Northeast, slichtly less dreary." Alsae, there's Leslie (Riddoch? Riddock?)'s news/talk program, if ony ither Americans want tae hear talk radio done WEEL, for a change! Gabh Spórs/Have Fun! --Cuilionn |

Subject: RE: Internet Radio WITH Archived Shows From: wysiwyg Date: 28 Feb 04 - 11:13 AM Well, thet Live-365 facility that makes those bluegrass programs available doesn't, strictly speaking, archive them so that they can be played on demand. But what it DOES do is stream them several times a week on a predictable schedule, so that, for instance, I do not have to use TR to catch the 6 AM WAMU "Stained Glass" program that WAMU does NOT archive at all-- I can stream it later in the week at a better time of day. Conveniently for me, on BluegrassCountry.org's schedule, the Spottswood show follows the Stained Glass show, so I could set TR to auto-record them both by streaming whatever they have on, first thing in the AM, but set TR so it activates as the shows I actually want are being played. And there may be more of the Live-365 material to explore that gives that option as well. Has anyone else used it, and found favorite programs worth catching? ~Susan |

Subject: RE: Internet Radio WITH Archived Shows From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 31 Dec 04 - 03:30 PM WOW ! Nice idea WISY!!!
It is hard enough making appointments, much less trying to catch favorite shows. Some syndications broadcast somewhere on the globe virtually 24/7 someplace like, "ArtBell's Open Mind"
This will prove a useful link.
Sincerely, |
