Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: Hamish Date: 27 Nov 08 - 08:53 AM Good thinking: Bob's site says he's there on Sat 18th and Sun 19th. So that's Bob and me will be there that weekend. (John R: I think Ali had considered the following weekend, but opted for the earlier one for reasons which escapse me now.) ~8^) |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: muppitz Date: 27 Nov 08 - 11:14 AM Are they perhaps going to increase security on the campsite this year? I have wellies now so I'm not so concerned about the rain!! muppitz x |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: dozy rozy Date: 01 Dec 08 - 08:51 AM Hello, and thanks for the replies.I suppose that date will have to do.All alone am I! |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: Hamish Date: 01 Dec 08 - 09:01 AM Well, it depends, Rosy. You can opt for Bob and me, or John R the week (or month!) later... |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: Vin2 Date: 01 Dec 08 - 09:02 AM I think Ali spoke to the police about the problem this year so i reckon they may be a bit more attentive next year. Maybe look out for one-another aswell. Never really bin too much aggro in previous years so that incident this year shouldn't be allowed to spoil what is a fab festival eh ? Vin |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: GUEST Date: 01 Dec 08 - 01:52 PM Tell you what.Lets all meet up at once. For instance,we could all gather together at a lovely little festval in Uppermill in July.We could camp in a field and sing a few songs. What a date that would be. |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: Pistachio Date: 01 Dec 08 - 04:18 PM Don't mention the rain... the space shuttle 'wigwam in puddle' memory will never leave me!... but I'll be back and Linda will be with me!! You have been warned. |

Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: Alio Date: 04 Jan 09 - 05:15 AM Hi everyone, and Happy New Year! The dates are July 17th to 19th, and artists booked - apart from Bob Fox and Hamish - include Eric Bogle and John Munro New Rope String Band Strawhead Triban Hissyfit Askew Sisters Gene Burton John Prentice Stanley Accrington Barrie + Ingrid Temple Zoe Mulford Copper Kettle Better Late Hopefully the campsite won't be a problem. The police were very concerned about the incidents and did prosecute. I got apologies from the Inspector - my phone call to ask for them to come down to the site and informing them of the potential threats was neither recorded nor acted upon. BUT there is a problem. Due to work and family pressures (my parents are 88 and 93 and very frail, and my daughter's just had her 4th baby, so I'm supporting them all and working through the night at the moment) I've pulled out of doing the artists now. So the committee are meeting on the 15th of this month to decide if they can go ahead with the few festival with the few people left to run it. I'll come back to Mudcat as soon as I hear their decision. Love Ali x |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: Alio Date: 04 Jan 09 - 05:16 AM PS is there anyone out there who fancies giving us a hand?!!! The pay's not brilliant, and I can't guarantee anything but rain, but my company makes it all worthwhile!!! xx |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: Linda Kelly Date: 04 Jan 09 - 05:51 AM We'll keep our fingers crossed Ali -it getting more and more difficult to find people who have the time and commitment to take over this side of things, but hopefully you will find a replacement. Love and hugs Linda |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: r.padgett Date: 04 Jan 09 - 03:26 PM Ali I am sorry that you find yourself in this position and clearly family comes first Help on the day should certainly be in evidence and jobs that can and should be delegated need to be identified by the committee Priorities for the festival need sorting asap Once the committee have met no doubt further info can be made known? All the best for 2009 to all!! Ray |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: Alio Date: 05 Jan 09 - 05:40 PM Thanks Linda and Ray. I think my leaving was the last straw as the committee were dwindling, and the artists / programming etc is such a huge job, if not a difficult one. I've enjoyed every minute of it - I've worked with such lovely people (including yourselves of course). Anyway, we'll see what happens on the 15th - fingers crossed. Ali x |
Subject: Saddleworth From: GUEST Date: 08 Jan 09 - 02:40 PM Whose on at Saddleworth in 2009 nothing on the website |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: r.padgett Date: 09 Jan 09 - 07:21 AM See above guest! No doubt the website is one of the jobs that needs attention by "somebody, anybody" rather than nobody {remember Roy Blackman?} Ray |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: Alio Date: 09 Jan 09 - 12:33 PM Hi Guest. Ray's right - I'[d just posted a list above. It goes back to what I was saying earlier - we don't have enough people on the committee to do the jobs! Sorry!! Ali |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: Lenny's mum (inactive) Date: 09 Jan 09 - 12:51 PM We're looking forward to it! We know what it is like and how much work is involved as being part of the organising committee for Cleckheaton Folk Festival a fortnight before Saddleworth. Saddleworth, although we steward there is a lovely place to unwind and enjoy. Janet and Malcolm |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: Alio Date: 10 Jan 09 - 05:23 PM Thanks Janet and Malcolm. I know how hard you 2 work there. We'll know more on Thursday evening at the meeting, so fingers crossed. And we've got a good list of artists too! Hopefully I'll be MCing at Cleckie again so I'll see you there if not before. Ali x |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: Vin2 Date: 14 Jan 09 - 08:27 AM Hope the meeting on the tomorrow ends in good news and Saddleworth Festival rolls on!! |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: Hamish Date: 15 Jan 09 - 06:51 AM Fingers crossed! It would be such a shame for all those who've invested their time and tlc over the years building up this fabulous festival to see its demise. Hamish x |

Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: Alio Date: 18 Jan 09 - 11:28 AM We decided to have the festival in 2009 - just to make sure that the trophy comes to Yorkshire!! Seriously though, the Festival is going ahead. I won't be doing the artists stuff as I've got too much on, but I'm finishing off bits and pieces and letting the artists know who the new contact is. I'll still be doing the weekend desk, and they've asked if I'll MC some of the main concerts as I go to quite a few festivals MCing now - so that's lovely. I'll be staying as Festival Director until the AGM in November - after that, I don't think the new committee feel a Director is necessary. So I'm off to start on the Running Order now - thanks for all the lovely messages and enquiries. And the website should be up to date very shortly!Watch this space! Ali xx |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: Hamish Date: 18 Jan 09 - 01:48 PM Wonderful news, Ali & co. And I mean not just for us artists and punters, but for all you hard working folks who've built this event up over the years into an excellent festival. And good luck with all your other commitments! x |

Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: Soldier boy Date: 20 Jun 09 - 10:21 AM refresh |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: MoorleyMan Date: 20 Jun 09 - 12:56 PM Why bother refreshing after only two days when there's clearly no fresh news? Pointless! |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: nutty Date: 20 Jun 09 - 03:09 PM Refreshing brings a thread back to the top and keeps it relevant, Definitely not pointless - as otherwise it would disappear off the bottom of the page. |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: Soldier boy Date: 20 Jun 09 - 06:13 PM Quite right nutty. It had slipped off the bottom of the page so I just nudged it back to prominence. Your point's pointless MoronMan! |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: nutty Date: 21 Jun 09 - 04:55 PM I am in a quandry with regard to the weather at Saddleworth. It has the fiercest collection of mossies that I have ever come across. At least when it rains they stay at home. |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: GUEST,Andy Date: 21 Jun 09 - 05:10 PM Saddleworth without rain would be like Glastonbury without mud! The line-up for the main concerts is up on Safra's website now. Eric Bogle headlines on Friday night and Bob Fox on Saturday. No details of the other events over the weekend as yet. |
Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009 From: MoorleyMan Date: 21 Jun 09 - 05:26 PM You're right Andy, the Saddleworth website is unusually lagging behind with detail this year. There's less than a month to go now, after all. Soldier boy - (and hey, please let's not stoop to name-calling) my intention in posting originally was to spur someone into action to get some more information out there. Too many festivals are leaving it very late in the day for getting a decent level of info out on the website (not just because of funding uncertainties, which we can all understand) and as a result are probably losing out on attendees simply because not everyone can make important decisions and arrangements (things like accommodation, getting time off work etc) at the last minute. |
