Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Steve Shaw From: GUEST,Steve Shaw Date: 15 Jun 24 - 05:46 AM Why, that's very grapefruit of youse - cheers! It's me 73rd (Dave didn't like to tell you that bit!) and we'll be celebrating with fish, chips 'n' mushy peas from the chippy tonight, washed down with summat non-low alcohol, and I might knock out a few tunes on the ould gob-iron as well. I've already been told off this morning for doing a 150-decibel rendering of Danny Boy in the kitchen. Where's the fun! ;-) |
Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Steve Shaw From: Dave the Gnome Date: 15 Jun 24 - 05:49 AM Our local chippy closed a while back but on passing yesterday we noticed that the for sale sign had gone and there was a new ownership sign outside. Looking forward to trying it :-) |
Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Steve Shaw From: GUEST,Steve Shaw Date: 15 Jun 24 - 06:18 AM I'll have to make some of my legendary tartar sauce as our chippy doesn't sell it. I'll hum/whistle that great tune Timour the Tartar as I'm doing it. Must try to get my gob-iron round that one! |

Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Steve Shaw From: GUEST,Steve Shaw Date: 15 Jun 24 - 10:38 AM I'm generally around at the top end quite a bit! Q. What's the difference between a harmonica player and a bodhran player? A. The harmonica player only sucks half the time... |
Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Steve Shaw From: Dave the Gnome Date: 15 Jun 24 - 12:50 PM Q. If you throw a Bodhran and a Banjo off a cliff, which hits the ground first? A. Who cares... |

Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Steve Shaw From: Neil D Date: 24 Jun 24 - 12:40 AM Happy belated birthday, Mr. Shaw, many returns of the day. And may I have your recipe for tartar sauce? |
Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Steve Shaw From: Dave the Gnome Date: 24 Jun 24 - 08:16 AM I shall ask him for it and post when I get chance, Neil. He can no longer post on this thread :-( |

Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Steve Shaw From: Dave the Gnome Date: 25 Jun 24 - 04:14 AM Just in from the man himself :-) The tartare sauce is so quick and simple. The quantities are not set in stone but here's what I do: You need a handful of little cornichons, maybe six or seven, a tablespoon and a half of nonpareil capers (the little ones), rinsed, a tablespoon or more of finely chopped fresh parsley, a tiny squeeze of lemon (needed but don't overdo it), five tablespoons of mayo (full-fat Hellmans for me!) and seasoning to taste. Chop the cornichons and capers very finely on a board then just mix everything together in a bowl. Chill, then voila! Too thick? Add more mayo. Enjoy :-) |
Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Steve Shaw From: Neil D Date: 27 Jun 24 - 01:09 AM Thanks Dave and Steve, I can't wait to try it. I can't remember seeing cornichons in my local grocery. I wonder if I could use sweet gherkins instead. |

Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Steve Shaw From: Dave the Gnome Date: 28 Jun 24 - 05:17 AM Hi Neil - From Steve again - "...gherkins would be just as good! Maybe one healthy-sized gherkin to replace the cornichons. Size is everything!" :-D |
