From: Coyote Breath Date: 18 Mar 02 - 10:55 PM Chiney doll Shady Grove, Cluck Old Hen, Weavilly Wheat, Darlin Cora, Young man who Wouldn't Hoe Corn, Little Sadie, House Carpenter, etc. and etc. All in G modal minor and tuning you absolutely NEED to know. gDGCD. In the G major tuning of gDGBG, there are: Boil them Cabbage Down, Mole in the Ground, Ground Hog, Suananoa Tunnel, Al Smith for President, Hot Corn Cold Corn, Whiskey Seller. Now some of these really can use three chords but don't suffer for their being played with just two. Learn to pick out the melody and while doing so form the corresponding chord(s) the melody "suggests". It will seem un-natural at first but soon you should be able to play any melodic line knowing, almost intuitively, what chord should be sounded as well. Whether you actually do sound the chord is up to you, it ain't writ in stone. CB |
