Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: BOLD SIR ROBIN (from Monty Python)
From: chico
Date: 29 Jul 05 - 05:14 AM

Em                                    B7   Em
Bravely bold Sir Robin rode forth from Camelot
                         D            G
He was not afraid to die, O brave Sir Robin
                               D                  (7)
He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways
Em      D      G       D       B7
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin

He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp
Or to have his eyes gouged out and his elbows broken
To have his kneecaps split and his body burned away
And his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Sir Robin

      G                      D
His head smashed in and his heart cut out
And his liver removed and his bowels unplugged
And his nostrils raped and his bottom burnt off
And his...

"Well that's enough music for now, lad"

Em             D    Em
Brave Sir Robin ran away "No!"
             G             (Em)
Bravely ran away, away - I didn't!
      G                D
When danger reared its ugly head
    Em                B7
He bravely turned his tail and fled - No!
      G                D
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
    Em          B7
And gallantly he chickened out
Em      D    G       B
Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat
Em    D       Em       G
Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin

THE PENIS SONG
(From Monty Python)

Isn't it awf'lly nice to have a penis?
Isn't it frightf'lly good to have a dong?
It is swell to have a stiffy; it's divine to own a dick,
From the tiniest little tadger to the world's biggest prick.
So three cheers for your Willy or John Thomas.
"Hooray!" for your one-eyed trouser snake,
Your piece of pork, your wife's best friend, your Percy or your cock.
You can wrap it up in ribbons; you can slip it in your sock,
But don't take it out in public or they will stick you in the dock
And you won't come back.

Subject: ADD: Every Sperm Is Sacred (Monty Python)
From: Joe Offer
Date: 28 May 18 - 02:02 PM

Iains posted a YouTube link to this inspiring song in another thread. This song has been mentioned here many times, but I don't think the lyrics have ever been posted.

EVERY SPERM IS SACRED
(Terry Jones, Michael Palin, Andre Jacquemin, David Howman)

DAD:
There are Jews in the world.
There are Buddhists.
There are Hindus and Mormons, and then
There are those that follow Mohammed, but
I've never been one of them.

I'm a Roman Catholic,
And have been since before I was born,
And the one thing they say about Catholics is:
They'll take you as soon as you're warm.

You don't have to be a six-footer.
You don't have to have a great brain.
You don't have to have any clothes on. You're
A Catholic the moment Dad came,

Because

Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.

CHILDREN:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.

GIRL:
Let the heathen spill theirs
On the dusty ground.
God shall make them pay for
Each sperm that can't be found.

CHILDREN:
Every sperm is wanted.
Every sperm is good.
Every sperm is needed
In your neighbourhood.

MUM:
Hindu, Taoist, Mormon,
Spill theirs just anywhere,
But God loves those who treat their
Semen with more care.

MEN:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
WOMEN:
If a sperm is wasted,...
CHILDREN:
...God get quite irate.

PRIEST:
Every sperm is sacred.
BRIDE and GROOM:
Every sperm is good.
NANNIES:
Every sperm is needed...
CARDINALS:
...In your neighbourhood!

CHILDREN:
Every sperm is useful.
Every sperm is fine.
FUNERAL CORTEGE:
God needs everybody's.
MOURNER #1:
Mine!
MOURNER #2:
And mine!
CORPSE:
And mine!

NUN:
Let the Pagan spill theirs
O'er mountain, hill, and plain.
HOLY STATUES:
God shall strike them down for
Each sperm that's spilt in vain.

EVERYONE:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is good.
Every sperm is needed
In your neighbourhood.

I'm glad you appreciated it. I suspect today no children would be allowed to sing those particular lyrics. Life previously was perhaps more innocent.

Subject: DT Corr:Always Look on the Bright Side of Life
From: Joe Offer
Date: 28 May 18 - 03:42 PM

Here's the one Monty Python song that we chose for the Rise Again songbook. It's in the Digital Tradition, but here's my transcription. I think the DT has the line in italics wrong.

ALWAYS LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE OF LIFE
(Eric Idle)

Some things in life are bad, they can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse
When you’re chewing on life’s gristle, don’t grumble, give a whistle!
And this’ll help things turn out for the best

CHORUS
And always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the light side of life

If life seems jolly rotten, there’s something you’ve forgotten
And that’s to laugh and smile and dance and sing
When you’re feeling in the dumps, don’t be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle: that’s the thing! / Always…

For life is quite absurd and death’s the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow
Forget about your sin, give the audience a grin
Enjoy it, it’s your last chance anyhow

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life’s a piece of shit when you look at it
Life’s a laugh and death’s a joke, it’s true
You’ll see it’s all a show, keep ’em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you

And always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the right side of life (repeat)

And then...

The Galaxy Song (C)                         Eric Idle/John Du Prez

“Whenever life gets you down, Mrs. Brown, and things seem hard or tough, and people are stupid, obnoxious or daft, and you feel that you've had quite enough…”

            C                            Em                      Am                      C
Just re-member that you're standing on a       planet that's    e-volving
Our      galaxy                   it-self contains a    hundred billion    stars;
Our      universe                it-self keeps on ex- panding and   ex-panding,

                                                                               G
And ro-tating at             9 hundred       miles an    hour.
It's a    hundred thousand light-years   side to       side;
In          all of the            di-rections       it can         whiz;

                            Dm             G                               Dm
It's orbiting at      19 miles a   second, so it's            reckoned,
It    bulges in the middle 16   thousand light-years thick, but out by
As fast as it can go, at the    speed of light, you    know,

       G                            Dm                           C
The sun that is the       source of all our       power.
us it's just            3,000      light years    wide.
12    million miles a       minute, that's the      fastest speed there is.

               C                                  Em                            Am                      C
Now the sun, and you and         me, and all the          stars that we can see,
We're      30 thousand                light-years from Ga-lactic Central      Point
So      re- member, when you're feeling very               small and   inse-cure,

             A                                                            Dm
Are       moving at a       million         miles a      day,
We go 'round every 2   hundred      million       years;
How a- mazingly    un- likely          was your   birth;

               F                           Fm                  C                            A
In the    outer spiral             arm, at       40,000 miles an          hour,
And our galaxy                it-self is one of   millions of               billions
And       pray that there's in-telligence       somewhere out in   space,

                        D                                        G                         C
Of a                galaxy we                           call the Milky       Way.
In this          a- mazing and                  ex- panding         uni- verse.
‘Cause I'm   a- fraid that we've been         cheated here on   Earth!

The version from "The Meaning of Life" has the last line "... for there's bugger-all here on earth!"; much better in my opinion. The version quoted by The Og seems to have been rewritten for non-Brits who may not know what "bugger all" means.

I heard about US families who ordered their "Harry Potter" books from the UK, because they insist on the real thing. In times of online dictionaries, this should not cause unsurpassable difficulties.

Has anybody caught on to the tune used for the Lumberjack song? The song uses the A part only. I'll give you a clue Burl Ives was imprisoned for singing it the 1950's. Same tune or very close I think.
