Subject: Quasimodal Chorus! Concert - Maine, USA From: maeve Date: 25 Apr 09 - 07:16 AM Good Friends" Concert with three community choruses: Quasimodal Chorus!, SHIRA and the Islesboro Community Chorus at the First Congregational Church in Camden on May 8th at 7 p.m On Friday, May 8, three community choruses are collaborating to put on a "Good Friends" Concert. The concert features the Quasimodal Chorus!, SHIRA and the Islesboro Community Chorus. It will be held at the First Congregational Church in Camden at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. The suggested donation is $10.00 with proceeds going to support youth music scholarships at the Maine Fiddle Camp in Montville (www.mainefiddle.org). The Quasimodal Chorus! has been singing around dining room tables since the early 80's. This group of 20 singers works on original compositions and songs from favorite composers. The group has made one CD, "So Bravely Dream," which is a compilation of songs composed by Jan Harmon, who was part of the chorus for many years. "Good Friends" written by Jan Harmon will be featured in the concert. SHIRA is an a capella group of long-time friends who love singing together and have done so over the past 20 years. Based in the mid-coast area, the women of SHIRA have a repertoire vast and varied, ranging from gospel and spiritual music to international folk and popular tunes. The soulful, playful, joyful pleasure of their performances is infectious! The Islesboro Community Chorus has been serenading island souls for almost 30 years under the direction of John Oldham with accompanist, Bonnie Hughes. Their repertoire is a smorgasbord of classical, traditional, multicultural and classical selections. They perform twice a year and participate at various civic events. The Good Friends Concert is an opportunity to bring friends of music together to share, laugh and enjoy songs while raising money to support youth and their musical pursuits. ************************************* Contact me by PM if you have questions or need directions. maeve |

Subject: RE: Quasimodal Chorus Concert - Maine, USA From: maeve Date: 12 May 09 - 03:43 PM Both musicians and audience seemed to have an equally good time. Each chorus sang its own mix of lyrically and melodically beautiful songs, ending with a few pieces sung by the three combined choruses. No recordings or videos to the best of my knowledge. It would be wonderful to see you there in the audience another time, Jerry. Mary, I expect you'll have other opportunities to hear us. maeve |

Subject: RE: Quasimodal Chorus Concert - Maine, USA 6 Dec From: maeve Date: 05 Dec 09 - 11:28 AM Here's the latest press release of our concert. Note that Kat Logan, Will Brown, and Gordon Bok (In the Quasimodal Chorus) also appeared on the "Singing Through the Hard Times" Utah Phillips tribute cd that has been nominated for a Grammy Award. Shophi Ngidi has a beautiful and powerful voice and an infectious sense of humor. ******************************************************************* Anne Dodson and Friends Holiday Program celebrates its 22nd consecutive season on Sunday, December 6th at 7:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary of the First Congregational Church in Camden. Once again it is the closing event of "Christmas by the Sea," Camden's annual weekend of holiday festivities, as it brings performers and audience together in a shared community event. This year a cast of returning participants joins Anne, including The Quasimodal Chorus, Matt Szostak, Will Brown and David Dodson. New on the docket for this year are Kat Logan and Jim Loney. Jim and Kat have been performing throughout the state over the last 25 years. Jim was previously a member of the The Toasters, The Bluetonics, and Primo Cubano. Kat has performed with numerous bands and both are known for their writing and solo work. They moved to Friendship in April, married in June and now perform together with an eclectic program that includes Americana, folk, blues, Celtic and original tunes. Also new for this years concert is Shophi Ngidi. Hailing from South Africa, Shophi is well known for her powerful vocals and Zulu dance style from the Umbumbulu region of KwaZulu. Rare in this tradition, Shophi learned traditional drumming from her father, Joesph Ngidi. Thulani Shabalala, a member of Lady Smith Black Mambazo and son of the bands founder Joseph Shabalala, is helping Shophi produce a new recording due out in late 2009. She will be performing solo and with the Quasimodal Chorus. Doors open at 7:00 PM and advance tickets are available at The Owl and the Turtle in Camden and at Rock City Books and Coffee in Rockland. Tickets may also be reserved in advance, to be held at the door. Adults: $12 advance, $14 suggested donation at the door. Children (6 -12): $6 in advance, $7 suggested donation at the door. Free under 6 years. Refreshments will be served. For more information or reservations call 236 -9576. |
