I have to spend some time in the Lichfield, Rugeley area.
Can anyone recommend any folk clubs or pub sessions?

There is a good Irish session at the Horse and Jockey, or if you fancy a short trip, there is a new mainly trad session at The Crown at Hyde Lea in Stafford on 18th.

Spittal Brook in Stafford (Tues) or Brewood Acoustic Club (Thurs) are not too far away.

There are a couple of clubs in Tamworth too.

If it still meets:
Game Cock, Polesworth Friday FC. Not easy to find. You have to pass Tam'th & Wincut (Wilnecote to the visitor), go a ways down the A5 turn left at Dordon, and left into Birchmoor (I missed-out the junctions that don't count). see Maps

Club is OK, but the bar does like to serve the regulars first. Even if you are all in red including glasses and cowboy hat. And comments like "I shall have to do something to be a bit more noticeable" go right over their heads. Allow 1/4 hour for drinks or buy in bulk.

Malc Gurnham lists a few things, but ring before you venture.

If you are looking for trad music, I'd give the spittalbrook a miss, its my local club but it is now more of an acoustic session.

Last time I went to the Spittalbrook, it was mostly singers singing songs from books!

If you're in Lichfield and fancy a concert or two, find out what's on at the Guildhall (or elsewhere as some work is being done on the Guildhall):

Yep, and it has got worse.

Lichfield Arts do promote quite a lot of Folk music, I'm going to see Jez Lowe soon, but they have loads of good acts on. The guildhall itself is having a new lift installed so there may be some venue changes. It is also a bloody nightmare acoustically, I've played there several times and it is a very impressive venue, but not a lot of fun for the soundman.

I've always admired the way the soundman seems to get it just right. I admit that it has taken a while.

Burton on Trent have the Brewtown FC. and there is Check Mates FC in Hopwas twixt Lichfield and T'mth
