Hello

I am on a search to find songs that have a wheat, wheat weaving, corn dollie,corn/barley, harvest theme etc.

I am working on a project of teaching all ages the traditions of corn dollie making and wheat weaving. I would love to have workshops and sessions that include singing while we are busy with our hands.

Any suggestions of songs would be so much appreciated.

Songs can be English or Celtic.

Hope I can find some help here. Thanks you very much!

Rose

Hi Rose,

The first song I thought of is Bugeilio'r Gwenith Gwyn" (English: Watching the White Wheat) which is a love song.

Come, Ye Thankful People
LDS Hymns #94
Tabernacle Choir performance:
https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/media/video/2013-10-1071-come-ye-thankful-people

Come, ye thankful people, come;
Raise the song of harvest home.
All is safely gathered in
Ere the winter storms begin.
God, our Maker, doth provide
For our wants to be supplied.
Come to God’s own temple, come;
Raise the song of harvest home.

All the world is God’s own field,
Fruit unto his praise to yield,
Wheat and tares together sown,
Unto joy or sorrow grown.
First the blade, and then the ear,
Then the full corn shall appear.
Lord of harvest, grant that we
Wholesome grain and pure may be.

Text: Henry Alford, 1810–1871
Music: George J. Elvey, 1816–1893
(the tune was called "St. George’s Windsor".)
