Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: Banjiman Date: 28 Apr 10 - 03:42 AM Look forward to seeing you there Pete. I see we're just a few acts after you! |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: peregrina Date: 28 Apr 10 - 04:06 AM It will be great--all welcome! The Yorkshire Garland are on too, though they weren't on the list Stallion posted. |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: BusyBee Paul Date: 28 Apr 10 - 04:44 AM Peregrina, I'll see you there on the Saturday afternoon. Deirdre |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: stallion Date: 28 Apr 10 - 10:12 AM yes I only had the marquee running order, I think Yorkshire Garland are there on Sunday, Of course there will be lots more performers, usually a rolling folk club in one room for anyone to put their name down, a music session in another room and a singaround in another, in fact lots of stuff so if you keep checking the Black Swan website a full programme will be posted at some time. Sunday looks a terrific line up in the marquee, Blackbeards Teaparty and Edwina Hayes on just before us both hard acts to follow and Banjiman with Blind Summat on a little after us, Saturday is a right dazzler with 18 acts with some awesome performers, yum |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: peregrina Date: 28 Apr 10 - 10:14 AM And... it's all free, friendly and informal, and near the centre of the city. Not just for the regulars... And good food and beer too. |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: theleveller Date: 28 Apr 10 - 10:21 AM We'll try to get there on Sunday to see Blind Summat. There's nothing like a nice bit of banjo playing...and...(no I won't go there)! |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: stallion Date: 28 Apr 10 - 10:24 AM I always thought banjo's were the swiss army knife of musical instruments, deadly weapon; frying pan; canoe paddle; egg slicer; cheese slicer.....anymore? |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: Banjiman Date: 28 Apr 10 - 10:28 AM .....behave boys! Anyway, we've got some musicians (and singers)in Blind Summat! as well as the banjo player. |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: Dave Hanson Date: 28 Apr 10 - 10:40 AM For non locals where is the pub situated then ? Dave H |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: peregrina Date: 28 Apr 10 - 10:43 AM On Peasholme Green--if you google Black Swan York you'll get a map. The pub has parking and there's a bit of street parking nearby; also city car parks at a 5 minute walk. Less than 15 min by foot from the station. |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: HipflaskAndy Date: 28 Apr 10 - 10:58 AM Surely the Pub's own Car Park will be much reduced? The marquee will eat up a load, as will the space reserved for the morris dancing. |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: theleveller Date: 28 Apr 10 - 11:17 AM There's a car park just down the road and one in Piccadilly - and there's the free park and ride at the Designer Outlet on the A19/A64 junction. |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: stallion Date: 28 Apr 10 - 11:23 AM The parking at the pub is much reduced but there are at least three park and ride car parks, Askham bar near Tesco's for people tavelling from A64 west, Hull road and one out on the A19 near the roundabout on the ring road, umpteen guest houses and a campsite which is a pleasant walk in alomg the river and a six pound taxi ride back (if you can convince the taxi driver you're not too blathered!) |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: theleveller Date: 28 Apr 10 - 11:24 AM BTW all-day parking in most car parks will cost you a tenner. |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: stallion Date: 28 Apr 10 - 11:29 AM cept park n ride which I think is a £2.50 return ticket on the bus, don't know it was last time I used it but lordy that was ages ago, I'll check! |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: stallion Date: 28 Apr 10 - 11:33 AM Park and ride car parks and the costs here |

Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: mouldy Date: 11 May 10 - 04:53 AM The only problem I can see with the P & R is that they have a nasty habit of finishing about 9.30..... Andrea |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: stallion Date: 11 May 10 - 12:24 PM ok for a pound you park on our street, not too many!, the residents parking scheme day tickets cost me a quid although there is no garauntee of a place! it is a fifteen minute walk from ours. |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: Banjiman Date: 12 May 10 - 12:18 PM Parking on the street near the Black Swan is not too expensive! |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: stallion Date: 12 May 10 - 01:47 PM There are also Morrisons et al nearby |

Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: stallion Date: 20 May 10 - 07:06 PM Just put the set together for the slot in the Marquee, it is very different to last few years, more listening songs to joinin songs. For people who do not know us we tend to be all joinin songs, we like a big chorus, but this year we are going to sing some of the stuff we sing around the dining table for our own fun. |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: Banjiman Date: 21 May 10 - 03:26 AM I look forward to hearing them Pete. |

Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: peregrina Date: 27 May 10 - 07:03 PM It looks as if this will be the best ever--lots of great music, a bit of poetry and more... The new landlord is really supporting the event--more food and beer this year, and new tents. Parking may be very very short in the city because of other music events going on in the market area. The club is (unusually) in the red at the moment from various losses. For the first time there will be collection boxes for voluntary donations. |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: stallion Date: 28 May 10 - 06:46 AM Yes donantions would be good, there is a superb lineup for a free festival |
Subject: RE: York W/E of Folk 5/6th of June From: peregrina Date: 28 May 10 - 06:55 AM Yes--both pub and club need support now! |
