What's scary is we used to sing Lily the Pink as a campfire song in Boy Scouts...just not the bawdy version.

The origins of Lily the Pink go back much further than 19th Century USA, and are to be found in the Middle East of about 3000 years ago. The original song was a hymn to a female demonic deity, Lilith the Sphinx. You may also have heard that the popular Children's Favourites song of the fifties, "The Sun Has Got His Hat On", originated in the Egypt of Pharaoh Akhenaten and was a hymn to the rising sun: The Sun, as God, is Aten- hip hip hip hooray....
