Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Zany Mouse Date: 27 Nov 06 - 07:19 PM Looking forward to it already. Always a great start to the festival year. More lace workshops please!! Can we book a place for the camper please? Rhiannon |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Andy Jackson Date: 27 Nov 06 - 08:25 PM no problem, plenty of space on new field. Please email me seperately so it goes into the right place. Ta |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: MBSLynne Date: 28 Nov 06 - 03:17 AM Ooooh! Four months of anticipation! Shady will second Rhiannon's request for more lace workshops I think. (That's if she can get to bed before 4 in the morning!) I'm taking for granted that we will be running the Ashby de la Zouch folk club again Andy? Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Seaking Date: 28 Nov 06 - 04:32 AM My favourite annual thread.. Got a potential problem this year but will do everything possible to be there. Chris |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Wuzzle Date: 28 Nov 06 - 04:51 AM First timers at Miskin be gentle :-) G&T |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Splott Man Date: 28 Nov 06 - 05:35 AM You'll love it! It's walking distance from home for me and Dame Spoons, but we still camp. |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Zany Mouse Date: 28 Nov 06 - 05:47 AM HA! No such thing as 'gentle' at Miskin. You just have to jump in with size 11 wellies and get on with it - it's really the only way to enjoy it (and you will). Rhiannon |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Fidjit Date: 28 Nov 06 - 06:24 AM Any chance of a bunk bed inside?? I'll sing for my supper. Chas |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Wuzzle Date: 28 Nov 06 - 06:43 AM Best get ready to Jump then :-) exiting G&T |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: mandotim Date: 28 Nov 06 - 06:53 AM Is there access/room for a large caravan? I'd really like to bring the family, but they don't fancy a tent at Easter... Tim |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Andy Jackson Date: 28 Nov 06 - 07:33 AM I dont see any problems with access, large lorries and horseboxs often drive up to the field. There is a short steepish slope just off the road but it is a hard surface. See you there. |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: MBSLynne Date: 28 Nov 06 - 09:13 AM Chris you can't possibly miss Miskin AND Sidmouth! Apart from anything else your kids would never forgive you! Gilly we will be there to hold your hands. Tim tell your family not to be wimps! We tent every Easter. Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Wuzzle Date: 28 Nov 06 - 10:57 AM Thanks Lynne it will be great to see you again, and all you other lovely people, even if you do all wear size 11 wellies |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: mandotim Date: 28 Nov 06 - 05:21 PM Hi Lynne! Wimps????? You haven't met my youngest daughter have you? Besides, I've done my share of winter camping; try a snow hole on Ben Nevis for a couple of days in February, waiting for the storm to blow out! No, these days it's sybaritic luxury all the way for me; hot showers, central heating and a well stocked built-in bar. Lovely! See you there I hope. Tim |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Richard Bridge Date: 28 Nov 06 - 05:30 PM Oh, so that'll only be 150 yards (straight up) then? |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: vectis Date: 28 Nov 06 - 05:52 PM Liz and I had better get practising then if there's only 4 months to go. |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Schantieman Date: 28 Nov 06 - 07:12 PM Sally and the Shot Dogs say thank you, thank you and thrice thank you Andy. Whoops I think Steve forgot to log out! Sorry Steve! 8) This is me, Ms Lemon. x |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: MBSLynne Date: 29 Nov 06 - 03:38 AM When you say "See you there" Tim, is that see you in the sybaritic luxury, built in bar etc?? Really looking forward to seeing the Shot Dogs in a proper concert at last. I've only ever seen them doing spots before Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: mandotim Date: 29 Nov 06 - 04:39 AM Lynne; you'd be most welcome, as ever! Second that thought about the Shot Dogs! I'm really looking forward to Miskin; I could never do it with Bit on the Side, as my erstwhile partner, being a cleric, tended to be busy around Eastertime. Tim |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Dave Earl Date: 29 Nov 06 - 06:47 AM Andy count us in. Bunk house please. The (getting) old bones won't take "Tenting tonight on the old campground" other than in the song that early in the year. Do you need stewards? Dave and Elizabeth |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Fidjit Date: 29 Nov 06 - 08:31 AM Jonah had a job getting a bed in W(h)ales this year. Won't need your floor this time Andy as I'm bringing my own car over. Large enough to sleep in. Although as Breton Cap says, old bones require a decent bed, so reserve a bunk place for me please. My mates Roger and Eileen are off to their house in France for Easter so I'll be on my own. Chas |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Andy Jackson Date: 29 Nov 06 - 11:15 AM Before we all get squashed in the rush let me clarify Bunkhouse arrangements. Basically if you had a booked bunk last year you will be given first refusal. At the moment all bunks are allocated. There is a short list of hopefuls, some more needy than others, but it relies on cancellations. Please let me know if you had a bunk last year and don't need it this year (or perhaps are happy to share with your partner - no giggling). The new caravan site is nearer, larger and with easier access so I hope this will encourage more "Tin Tents". Andy |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Splott Man Date: 29 Nov 06 - 11:49 AM I put it int' tin. If it in't int' tin, it's int' tin tent. |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: mandotim Date: 29 Nov 06 - 12:32 PM Does this mean I'll be loitering within tintent? I meant to ask earlier; are dogs welcome? (No his name isn't Rin Tin Tent, it's Olly...) Tim |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Eye Lander Date: 29 Nov 06 - 01:30 PM I would say as long as Olly is on a lead and under control I can't foresee a problem (bit like children really!). I expect Andy will confirm next time he logs on. Only joking about the children, no wish to offend anyone. Jillie |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Eye Lander Date: 29 Nov 06 - 01:31 PM Richard - are we having caravan watch this year? Jillie |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 29 Nov 06 - 01:34 PM Any clues as to just how near Andy? |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Schantieman Date: 29 Nov 06 - 02:42 PM Well, include me in, in tent is my intent. Any ideas for a new Mummers' play? Steve |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Andy Jackson Date: 29 Nov 06 - 02:56 PM "Any clues as to just how near Andy? " Are we talking snore watch here or just friendly, Mrs Duck? |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Andy Jackson Date: 29 Nov 06 - 03:04 PM Talking of near.... the new caravan and carpark is actually the field right next to the main Miskin Mill field in the direction of the old camp site. I haven't measured it yet but the old field was 400 yards so this can't be more than a hundred. I am hoping there might even be a way through the woods and across the little foot bridge. Have a look on Google maps. When the website is up and running next week I will put a map there. |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Geoff the Duck Date: 29 Nov 06 - 04:54 PM New Mummers Play? We haven't recovered from the last one yet! Quack! GtD. |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Richard Atkins Date: 29 Nov 06 - 06:40 PM Caravan will be there ,was I watched last year! :>) |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: old girl Date: 29 Nov 06 - 07:01 PM Good news Andy as you know I'm getting to old for that hill, campers look out for Brian (from Copper Kettle) make sure you put up your tent well away from him he has a snore to wake the dead, I'll get killed for this but its true Rose & Dave |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Richard Bridge Date: 29 Nov 06 - 09:10 PM Ah, Vanwatch! So far all I need to plan is ripping out the fridge and taking it over to the Dometic agent in Southend to find out why it doesn't go cold in hot weather (I expect the answer is expensive) and get the remarkable Mr Shea to investigate the grabbing brakes. Still the Volvo that replaced the Skoda is heavy enough that a wagging van usually doesn't bother it. Oh yes, and the fans on the fridge air vents to aid hot air extraction.... I've already done the new high-power water pump. It'd be nice to get the radio-cassette that I took out of the Volvo in, too, and that will mean properly fitting four speakers in place of the currently rather un-located two speakers. Indeed I have half a plan to fit a big sub to go thud, and to re-fit the little telly to the front of the sub so it doesn't bang people on the head I also want to re-fit the front interior light, and to re-tension the roller blind on the top window so it works, and that will mean taking out and replacing the guitar shelves, but they want re-fitting more securely anyway. I'm hoping the gas fire will behave itself after all the grief last year, but maybe some larger gas-bottles (which means new gas-bottle fittings) would help it. Oh, and rigging up a spare-wheel rack so that I can take a spare wheel just in case And re-stapling the bit of undertrim that gets the wind inside it and pulls down if I drive too fast. And blanking off the draught-space under the fridge to keep the wind out... Nothing as potentially disastrous as last year, though. I don't know if Jeff will come this year. Miskin and the Pigs' Ear Folk Ale were the only fests last year he could psych himself up enough to come to, and as some of you may remember he was a bit odd at both. However his court case turned out better than expected so maybe he will be feeling more at ease with himself. We wait to see. So that makes it part vanwatch and part nutwatch....... And if Jeff does not come then I get to try out the new field, and bring thigh waders to get across the stream... |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Andy Jackson Date: 29 Nov 06 - 10:20 PM Rightyho Richard. First things first, take out the fridge and stand it upside down for at least an overnight, longer if you have the patience. Honest.... this lets the coolant stuff sort itself out and get back in the right place. This may be all it needs, especially if it sort of works now. If it still doesn't want to play, check it on lectricity, mains or 12volt (remember it takes loads of current on 12volt and is not very efficient so you can only realistically do this on a long run) Hopefully it also runs on mains, and if it now works you need to either carefully clean or replace the gas jet. Always worth a try at cleaning but new jets are better. The heat enxchanging thingy which is the heart of the system is seperate on mains and gas, hence the check. Good luck. Andy |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: My guru always said Date: 30 Nov 06 - 04:58 AM Well done Andy for bringing the campsite closer to home-base!! Really looking forward to it & echo the thoughts on the 'Shot Dogs', can't wait to hear them again!!! Richard: good to hear you've got plenty to keep your hands busy till Easter. Am still keeping an eye out for North Kent sessions, espicially now that festival weekends have calmed down a bit - well, there's one or two not sorted before Easter anyway *grin* By the way, I hope everyone's started to collect the odd '£ coins' so you've got plenty in your pockets for the raffle tickets as well as the liquid libations...... Oh & don't forget to keep your 'unwanted' Christmas presents in a safe place as prizes! |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Dave Earl Date: 30 Nov 06 - 11:54 AM Just remembered something that a few of us discussed last year. A PORT & CHEESE (Stilton?) WORKSHOP. Anybody interested? Dave |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: daughter Date: 30 Nov 06 - 12:48 PM Eyelander, Molly says she isn't in the least offended about the leash - she's hoping to be that naughty by then! This will be Molly's first official festival as is right and proper. (She will need to talk to you guys about her accommodation I would think!). Hoping that Crouch can be honorary dance side of course! (Alongside the fabulous Herbs, obviously). xx |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Richard Bridge Date: 30 Nov 06 - 01:06 PM Thanks Andy - but I have already tried turning teh fridge over daily for a week. The heating element is different for mains (works best) gas (works next best) and 12v (hardly at all - and at about 8 amps very bad for batteries). The pipework and heat exchanger is common. The fault is usually caused by running out of vertical, and that makes stuff in the refrigerant fluid crystallise - and according to the chemists that is irreversible! The remedy is a heart-lung transplant for the fridge at a cost of about 200squid. But I might try it one more time, although of course since in the cold weather it does refrigerate I will have no way to test until too late.... |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Andy Jackson Date: 30 Nov 06 - 01:26 PM Richard B.....Oh Bu***r, 'sdead then. Don't you get that Ebay feeling coming over you? |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: vectis Date: 30 Nov 06 - 03:20 PM Have you checked that the insulation around the pipe above the gas jet hasn't slipped down a bit? They often do and then the gas won't light. You just need to shove it up a bit and all will be fine and dandy once more. |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 30 Nov 06 - 03:20 PM Not so much snore watch as twin watch, Andy. Next door could be close enough to allow Mum and Dad to be friendly after they are asleep. |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Schantieman Date: 30 Nov 06 - 03:40 PM Count me in for the port and starboard workshop, Dave S |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Richard Bridge Date: 30 Nov 06 - 04:13 PM The gas lights. I generate lots of heat out the flue (except on 12V). I generate enough cold in cold weather. I don't generate enough cold in hot weather. I gain about 15 degrees from outside temperature. So long as the outside temperature doesn't go over 22 degrees, teh fridge stays fridge temperature. Strangely, the icebox makes ice no matter how hot the outside world gets. |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Dave Earl Date: 30 Nov 06 - 04:21 PM OK Steve. It's you and me for starters then. Where's Cllr and ColK when you want them? Oh and if I don't drink it all over Christmas I have a very nice Maderia in the drinks cupboard. Dave |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Jock O' Dreams Date: 30 Nov 06 - 04:54 PM Hi Andy Glad you managed to get the camp site sorted. That will be a big wieght of your sholders! Book me a pitch! This is still my most favorite, favorite, favorite(to the power ten) Festival. It has the right amount of every required ingredient. Can't wait! Jim |
Subject: RE: Miskin at Easter 07 From: Sue the Borderer Date: 30 Nov 06 - 07:51 PM Hi daughter! Hope Molly will come and dance with 'the fabulous Herbs' - she'd be our youngest so far. Oldest is a woman of 92 who danced with us at Sidmouth in 2005. Congratulations, by the way. Sue |
