Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Banjer Date: 07 Mar 00 - 08:32 PM Kat, it seems yu jest prooved to yerself thet pruf reeding is not a bad idea!! I have a CW event this weekend, but should be home by &30. I am working on getting my mike functioning. I have tried all I know. I even got a mike from Walmart. The mike I have is a dymanic and all the good I've acomplished has been with it. (The Walmart mike won't even pulse the recorder1) It says in the sheet that comes with it that some older sound cards may not be powerful enough to make it work and that one may have to go to a dymnamic mike. I think my sound card needs to be upgraded. I'll see what I can do about that between now and Sunday. Hope to be there in living sound!! |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Bill D Date: 07 Mar 00 - 08:53 PM Banjer...whut you NEED is one a them mike-headphone combo things from Radio Shack...designed just for stuff like this |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Mbo Date: 07 Mar 00 - 08:59 PM Does this mean an Irish traditional night, then? Don't know many British Invasion tunes about St.Paddy's Day. --Mbo |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: MMario Date: 07 Mar 00 - 09:52 PM well - will irish-ish do? |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: GutBucketeer Date: 07 Mar 00 - 10:35 PM I'll be there!!! Just promise me this. NO UNICORN SONGS, unless they are sung by Dylan!!! JAB. |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: katlaughing Date: 07 Mar 00 - 10:40 PM Somebody HAS to promise to fiddle Irish Washerwoman for me. It was my favourite request for my dad to play when I was a kid and there ain't no way I can practise it up that quick! Hey! NO groans!**BG** But there is that CUTE little song my sis and I sing about the Leprechaun granting us three wishes, "Bless the friends that I love and the friends that love me, and the friends of me friends, that's my wishes three!" katwhoisoftenfullofblarney! |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: MMario Date: 07 Mar 00 - 10:40 PM but I've got a really good unicorn song.......*whine* |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Mbo Date: 07 Mar 00 - 10:47 PM Well, since it seems that St.Patrick's Day is now more of a day to celebrate the Irish, instead of the good Padraig...I will do my own song of the Louis XIV's Irish Brigade, called "Fontenoy." I just hope there aren't any anti-French folks out there! Oh, AND because I love Saint Patrick, I WILL read "Saint Patrick's Breastplate" ever if no one cares. It inspires me! --Mbo |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Sorcha Date: 07 Mar 00 - 10:54 PM If nobody beats me to it, I'll do Washerwoman, but it is not one of my best. If I have to play it, then I wanna do If Ever You Were Mine! |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: GutBucketeer Date: 07 Mar 00 - 10:55 PM Ok MMario just promise me its not THE unicorn song. No humpie back camels etc. etc. Pleeeeeaaaasssseee, I'm begging. JAB |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Mbo Date: 07 Mar 00 - 11:05 PM PLEEEEEESE DO sing "The Unicorn", Mario! It's such a cute little song! I love it! --Mbo |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Jon Freeman Date: 07 Mar 00 - 11:19 PM I am still mystified by all this unicorn business - in close to 20 yrs of involvement in folk clubs in my area I can't remember hearing it once. Have known the song for longer than 20yrs though. Jon |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Mbo Date: 07 Mar 00 - 11:23 PM I know, Jon! I could count on 1 hand how many times I've heard it! --Mbo |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Mark Cohen Date: 07 Mar 00 - 11:57 PM I'm on call this weekend but will try to be there. Gotta get geared up, though. Let's see, I need the software, a mike, a propeller beanie -- oops, that's Hobbes talking. Wow, I haven't been to a song circle since I left Seattle in 1990! The Unicorn, by the way, is in Shel Silverstein's marvelous collection of poems, "Where the Sidewalk Ends". I don't think Shel had the Clancys' cute rendition in mind when he wrote it; does anyone know? Aloha, Mark |
Subject: Lyr Add: THE UNICORN (Shell Silverstein) From: katlaughing Date: 08 Mar 00 - 12:09 AM Here ya go, Mark. I have heard it many, many times on the radio years ago:
THE UNICORN
Well, a long time ago, when the Earth was green,
There was green alligators an' long-necked geese.
Well, now, God seen some sinnin' an' it caused him pain.
“An' you take two alligators, a couple o' geese;
Well then, Noah was there an' answered the call,
“Hey, Lord, I got you two alligators, a couple o' geese;
Well, Noah looked out through the drivin' rain.
Yeah, two alligators, a couple o' geese,
An' the ark started movin' an' it drifted with the tide,
You'll see lots of alligators an' a whole mess o' geese, |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: JenEllen Date: 08 Mar 00 - 12:54 AM Irish-ish weekend then? Gotcha covered Mark. Propeller beanies and plastic viking helmets galore...good to have you along for song. Elle |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: MMario Date: 08 Mar 00 - 08:29 AM oh - believe me, it's not the usual "Unicorn song"....*eg* now I have to go find it again...I lost it in the "great mail crash" of last week. |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 08 Mar 00 - 03:32 PM I got dibs on "The Rising of the Moon"! Dave Oesterreich |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: MMario Date: 12 Mar 00 - 05:31 PM and refresh again....I'm hoping things work out I CAN sing tonight, as I have found the unicorn song I wanted to do..... |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Mbo Date: 12 Mar 00 - 06:15 PM I hope I can remain tonight...my net connection in "this place" is REALLY bad. 15-20 minutes on Hearme, and it jamms the connection, you have to disconnect and reconnect, which takes time. --Mbo |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Dave (the ancient mariner) Date: 12 Mar 00 - 06:19 PM I have two songs from Ireland (Antrim) that have never been published to my knowledge "Cushendun Bay" and "Going Home To Antrim Again" both songs written by Brian Connors who is an excellent guitar player singer song writer from the Antrim road Belfast. I would also do The Hills Of Connemara if time permits. Hoist the Black Bushmills flag and off we go ... |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: katlaughing Date: 12 Mar 00 - 07:02 PM refresh for my sis who is going to try to be here |

Moonshiner
I bumbled:

Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Mbo Date: 12 Mar 00 - 10:35 PM Hey, me and Dave are still here. If anyone wants to come over... --Mbo |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Dave (the ancient mariner) Date: 12 Mar 00 - 10:51 PM I found out from Mbo that the tune to Cushendun Bay is actually a Scottish tune called Loch Broom Bay. If anyone is interested in playing it.Yours,Aye. Slainte, Dave |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: alison Date: 12 Mar 00 - 11:14 PM I want both tunes please Dave..... what a pack of faders..... I expected an Irish singalong to go longer.. I'm there now.. but you've all gone to bed... ah well.... slainte alison

Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Jon Freeman Date: 13 Mar 00 - 02:39 AM Well Alison sorry to mis you and I expected my stamina to be better than it was last night but I suddenly felt tried. At least I managed to get myself to bed though (my favourite trick is going to sit by the fire and faling asleep on the floor). I enjoyed what I did hear though and it was nice to see more new faces as well as the "regulars" - knowing my memory, I'll have forgotten somebody or remembered wrongly but Mary in KY, Jo Taylor and Mark Cohen were all new to me in this session. The even seems to be growing in numbers and I seem to be enjoying it more and more. I agree that kat was good with her whip last night. Jon

Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 13 Mar 00 - 06:46 AM I loved Sorcha's fiddlin'. I read an Irish Blessing:
May those that love us, love us Happy St. Pat's Day. Mary |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Dave (the ancient mariner) Date: 13 Mar 00 - 09:21 AM Alison, I cannot send you the music I shall either have to try singing them for you in hearme sometime, or copy the tape I have of Brian singing them. Unfortunately the tape is an old amateur job done in a living room in Cushendun and not very good quality. You let me know which you prefer and I will get the music for you.. Another possibility is to try this site for help..Yours,Aye. Dave http://www.geocities.com/musicofireland/ |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: kendall Date: 13 Mar 00 - 09:49 AM My contributions consisted of: A taped number by Bernie Houlahan Pretty Quadroon, I did, I remember loving you, My friend Pat did Nobody knows you when you'r down and out,, and I did, I just dont look good naked anymore. Something came up and I had to leave..lol |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: katlaughing Date: 13 Mar 00 - 09:55 AM I did Irish Lullaby and, someone else wil have to jump in next time. My whip is retired. |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 13 Mar 00 - 10:08 AM Wow! What a great session! From my point of view, the best yet! I sang The Rising of the Moon and Mo Mary early on, but I'm told my volume was too low and people could hardly hear me. I think I got that fixed later;at least I heard no further complaints. I want to sing The Rising of the Moon and Mo Mary again sometime soon, because they are too good to waste. After I got the volume fixed I sang Jerry Go and Ile That Car, Kevin Barry, I was Born in Cincinnati, The Swapping Song, and Get Up and Go. Really looking forward to next week. Dave Oesterreich |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Sorcha Date: 13 Mar 00 - 10:32 AM OK, I'll post 'em. Early on Kate did Killkelly again, then Brian and I did Irishwasher Woman and Whiskey Before Breakfast. Brian did a short bodhran solo, and I did Biddy I'm Not Jesting and kinda sorta tried Blackberry Blossoms, but it wasn't one of my better nites. Kept hitting stuff with the bow hand and lousing up. |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Banjer Date: 13 Mar 00 - 07:08 PM I was READY....We had even done a sort of 'sound check' on the banjo...'Old Joe Clark'. Kat said it sounded good. Then my youngest who borrowed my truck earlier chose THAT PARTICULAR TIME to return it and of course needed a ride home. I had to stop what I was doing, told all I would be back soon. When I got back I fired up my pewter again....AND then...after spending the better part of Sunday afternoon getting my new sound card and mike to working just right....The damn monitor takes a dump!!!! I'm working now on a monitor I borrowed from my pewter guru....I'd be lost without him...Hope all goes well for next week. |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Bill D Date: 13 Mar 00 - 08:45 PM well, I followed Sorcha's fine fiddle rendition of "Irish Washerwoman" with a little parody of it..(which Kendall also does..and probably half the Irish in the world..*grin*).....also sang "Three Lovely Lassies from Bannion" , which I got sort of got by osmosis from an ancient Burl Ives record.(which Kendall also has..that guy is hard to surprise..) |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Mark Cohen Date: 13 Mar 00 - 11:36 PM I didn't realize people were giving their "set lists," so...a song of mine called "The Wonderful Shoes", that's in the DT, "Why Johnny's (a/k/a Paddy's) Not at Work Today", and a takeoff on "The Limerick Rake" called "I'm Champion of Driving Them Crazy." I would love to know who wrote that last one. Kendall, I loved hearing I Remember Loving You. Unfortunately you were coming through in little chunks, but it was still a fine performance of a really fine song. By the way, did anybody else pick up a virus when downloading HearMe? My printer froze up and the Properties screen showed a driver called Absolutely Bogus Printer Driver. After much gnashing of teeth and a few well-placed kicks (to the wall, not the computer, I'm not that dumb), I got it working again. Knock wood. Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: MMario Date: 14 Mar 00 - 08:48 AM Per a web site Jeri posted, from a VERY reputable anti-virus company, this is NOT a virus or any kind of a relative, but rather a small glitch in some printer drivers |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: Jeri Date: 14 Mar 00 - 09:20 AM Mark, the DT says Ian Robb wrote "Champion at Driving Them Crazy." The only reason I wasn't there is my ISP was dead for over a day. Their timing sucked - I really missed the singing!
As I walked out in the streets of Laredo
Oh disgruntled woman, pray tell me your problem |
Subject: RE: HEARME Song Circle - Sunday, March 12th From: kendall Date: 14 Mar 00 - 10:04 AM Mark, I'm sending you something via e mail. Dont be afraid to open it, it's ok. |
