A meeting has been organised this Sunday in the Sun at about 4. / 4.30ish, for all players and supporters of the fringe.
Bring your ideas with.
How would you like it to be run this year.??
How would you like it to develop in the future.??
Any ideas welcome.
There has been discussion on running a separate fringe fest on a different weekend?
All thoughts and support welcome

Great idea John, ask the people that respect and support the fringe, I for one still think the Peoples Voice Festival was one of the best. Unfortunately I cannot get to Beverley this weekend and have to give this years festival a miss anyway now due to family commitments.

The idea of a separate fringe weekend appeals, if the locals can be persuaded to accept two weekends of disruption to their 'normal' way of life, (Please don't take this as a derogetory remark), but the local people do have a lot of disruption when the festival is on due to the increased traffic, parking problems and sheer numbers of visitors.

I think it is now too late to be thinking of how it should be run this year as the "Festival" has highjacked the weekend to the exclusion of the fringe faithful, but lets hope there is better to come in 2006 onwards.

Thanks for your thoughts Mal. However the latest on the fringe is that, Players and Supporters of the fringe can book on to the field this year as I have reserved an area for them. This has been done with the cooperation of the organisers of the festival proper, There is a reduction of spaces, but this is due to the reduction of space overall with the building of the new swimming pool In my earlier thread I informed all interested parties to contact me /Pm me and quit a few have, though there are a couple of spaces left I expect these to go soon. Our usual Sunday session starts at 3pm in the Sun so there should be plenty of interested parties there already, even if they don't know of the meeting in advance.

Having reflected on the fringe / main festival in Beverley in future years, I think I may have been a bit rash in thinking a separate fringe might be for the better. I believe the two need to run together as they are complementary, and even season ticket holders of the main festival cannot get in to see all the main shows, even if they wanted to. It also gives the main acts the chance to get out and meet some of the fans and to take in some entertainment themselves.

They may be performers, but they also need feedback and an awareness of whats going on around them.

The People's Voice thing only ran because the Festival couldn't get its funding that year. We just wanted to keep that weekend available for the Festival to come back into.

The Festival and the Fringe both work off each other. Fringe people will go to individual events, support the craft, music and food stalls, and weekend ticket holders (or dance team members or stewards) will attend and enjoy fringe events.

For the discussion / consideration, the camping situation must be returned to 'camping for all' and not limited to full weekend ticket holders only.

I know this year has limitations due to the construction works but the new pool is on the old car park, not the camping ground, the top soil heap I know has caused problems regarding siting of caravans, this should not affect future years therefore.

Is there any possibility of using the disused Museum site / Car Park in future years for caravaners?

Many street performers (Mummers, Morris Men, Garland Dancers) also camp and as performers are unlikely to want to buy a weekend ticket for shows they cannot attend.

Sorry I thought That I'd posted this I have Agreed with the new management that Camping and caravans for the fringe will be limited to 20 for this year re the building works. I am going to reserve an area for us Towards the Bowling green. There are one or two spaces left pm me If you are interested. I will collect once you are on site same as last year + 3% inflation. The feeling from most of the locals is that they wouldn't go there even if the rules were relaxed - on the basis that we are here in Beverley all year and need good licensees to support the music for the other 51 weeks, not just to profit from the festival weekend.

I know that a number of old-Time American music fans will be missing because of another event that weekend. I am still interested in having some time set aside for an old-timey session. If you want somebody to sit in a pub and be "officially" in charge of an old-time jam, I would happily do so.

There is a sign for camping /caravans on Long Lane close to Beverley, and saw caravans through trees. No site advertised there. Anyone know if it is open to the public?

We spoke to the guy on the Syntan barge and the play 'waterhouse lane' is on from 1 to 2 and 4.30 to 5.30 Saturday and Sunday. Allowing for half an hour before and after for setting out and putting away it should be available for the morning to 12.30, from 2.30 to 4.00pm and evenings from 6.00pm onwards.

Update on fringe Tickets. I will either be at the entrance to the Leisure cntr, or in Hodgsons front room from 12ish on friday and will have the passes for camping on the site. In order not to cause embarrassment to anyone get hold of me before you try to get on the camp site. If you find any of the fringers who have not been able to get the message please pass the information on.
