Bob (and Claire)

You could try talking to Bob Hawkes, who ran Saffron Walden Folk Festival, and also Hawkes Vernon Sound (motto, good sound reinforcement is conspicuous by its apparent absence).

If the venues are in the centre of Oxford, I suspect this will be a park and ride festival.

Are you thinking of running it in term or out of term?

From Holmfirth.........and I left the Showcase at the AFO conference because of the noise. I assumed that since Kerfuffle and Kirsty McGee had a sensible level then the others had asked for it.

One piece of advice which I don't think has been mentioned is join the Association of Festival Organisers. There is a website. Tons of good workshops. And has anyone mentioned about getting a good website?

Thanks everyone.

I'm busy following up loads of useful suggestions.

Is insurance a problem? Apart from licences sometimes requiring it?

Skippy, give me another clue: when did I see you last?

Be prepared to make a loss. Maybe not at first but somewhere along the line you will. As the saying goes 'some you win, some you lose'. Just hope they balance out overall.

All I can add is look at the 'competition' some festivals take most of the hardened will turn up to anything crowd away form you so you begin by having a harder sell!

You'll always clash with something just try and minimise the risk.

I echo most of the positive points above esp in relation to respect for your artists your public and your staff!

The whole thing is a nightmare but well worth while some six days after.
