It's on in Tullamore, Offaly. I'm heading down tomorrow.
Tomorrow night they're trying to organise the world's biggest session in the main square in the town
(there's over 10,000 musicians attending the fleadh so they might make it!).

More info here.

Hope the session works. Some years ago at the Fleadh (the location escapes me)there was an attempt to get into the Guinness book of Records for the longest set for the 'Siege of Ennis'. The road was about a mile long: the organisers started placing couples at one end, and by the time they'd got 200yds down the road the first couples had drifted into the pubs. Eventually there were enough to start, and the band started playing, but the PA wasn't big enough, so only the first ten or so couples danced; everybody else went into the pubs

Fuddie "Are you going to the Fleadh?"
Duddie "'59 was a bad year, they were everywhere, in the house in yer pants, yer hair, dem danged fleas nearly closed the store"
Fuddie "What are you on about?"

Now you got me curious...
keep us posted on how it goes.
I can't imagine thousands of musicians trying to sit in on one session...or even hundreds.
Anyone doubt that someone will be out of key?

OK, the official results released by the organisers, as confirmed by the people who confirm these things,
show a world record in O'Connor Square in Tullamore:
2,700 musicians playing the same tunes for 40 minutes.

I wasn't present myself, having been diverted by the urgent need to explain the hidden meanings
of a traditional ballad to a stunning blond from north Dublin.

But I'm sure everyone had a great time.

I know I did!

Ooops, lost my cooky again (damn things are so small, gotta get my glasses to find them on the carpet, carefully replace 'em, etc.).
Gonna get me a leash and keep them cookies on the rein...
