Hi dilly daly,

Yes there are folk clubs in a lot of places in Australia.

This thread is a good place to start looking:

Long-lived folk clubs? 60yrs?

As an example, our local folk club in Newcastle, NSW is the Newcastle & Hunter Valley Folk Club

There is a national folk organisation, the name of which is escaping me, but I'm sure someone here at Mudcat, e.g. Sandra in Sydney will pop in to this thread and tell us.

yes, there are lots!

Most states have Folk Federations & would have lists of clubs.

About the Folk Federation Of South Australia -it seems to be defunct & their facebook page seems to have been hijacked by Qld builders!

Trad and now is a national magazine available in various newsagents across the country, including the Rundle Mall.

Folk Alliance Australia does not have a list of clubs, but it does list Festivals

Australia wide Festival Calendar

The Folk Rag
seems to have some good links to regional listers
www.folkrag.org/links.html

For dead links I'd suggest a search on Facebook using the same organisation or club names.

thanks, Freddy - I remember Folkrag from the days it was a real magazine! They posted extracts on line & I've often referred to their on-line member bios.

I know a bloke from Adelaide who goes to folk & country venues, so there must be more than one.

They're getting ever fewer in the West.
We've had 2 Close in the last couple of months.
I think there's maybe 3 left in Pert/fremantle, Plus a few open mike sessions and 3-4 shanty clubs scattered around the metro area.

Cheers

Bugsy

Sorry, my ex-librarian status might be in jeopardy. :-( I should have found this in my previous searches. LOL

Folk Music and Dance SA - clubs in Adelaide

That's under the Directories tab on the main site:

Folk Music and Dance SA

There is a calendar page as well.
