Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: Jack the Sailor Date: 15 Nov 01 - 09:32 AM No. I am not watching it. I watched bits of the Outback one to see what all the fuss was about. I still don't know. It just seems like a cruel version of summer camp. |
Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: GUEST,Don Meixner Date: 15 Nov 01 - 09:40 AM No, and no. |
Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: SharonA Date: 15 Nov 01 - 09:51 AM I'm not watching it either. Like Jack, I took a peek at the Outback "game" (the first episode) and, after 20 minutes of watching people do nothing but walk through the brush, I concluded that it was a monumental waste of my time. I turned the TV off and played the guitar for the rest of the evening. Life is short enough without whittling it away watching someone else's adventures from the sidelines. I'd rather go have my own adventures! That's not to say that I don't ever watch TV! I do: mostly news, along with some relaxing light comedy plus one or two dramas, and historical/biographical profiles. But the only one of the recent Survivor-style-craze game shows that ever interested me was the first season of "The Mole." The second season isn't holding that interest. |
Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: Raptor Date: 15 Nov 01 - 10:02 AM I only watch it because I'm facinated by the study of human behavior when put in a stressfull situation with people that they don't know!
Oh, And I only look at Playboy for the articals! Raptor |
Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: GUEST,Lionel Date: 15 Nov 01 - 10:06 AM No, I havn't seen it. I usually fall into the deep refreshing sleep that comes only after pub closing time. Why do you need to know and what will you do with the information? If enough people replied YES maybe Survivor could have it's own dedicated TV channel and the resulting free slot could be given over to interesting rustic pursuits like flycatching and wold-garbling, if it was a lot of NO's it could be taken off the air altogether thus freeing up more time for flycatching and wold-garbling programmes. |
Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: Jack the Sailor Date: 15 Nov 01 - 10:11 AM I only watch it because I'm facinated by the study of human behavior when put in a stressfull situation with people that they don't know! - Raptor I see this in a pub at closing time. The situation is more real and "beer goggles" sometimes make for some real comedy! |
Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: Raptor Date: 15 Nov 01 - 10:16 AM You got me I'm realy Mark Burnett the shows producer! I guess I'll have to infiltrate another Folk website to get my opinion poll!
By the way are you aware the Castaway productions that owns survivor is owned by Bob Gildof Of the Boomtown Rats? Raptor |
Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: MMario Date: 15 Nov 01 - 10:23 AM I would think there would be more stress from being followed around by camaras. Haven't seen more then a minute or two of any "Survivor".

Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: GUEST Date: 15 Nov 01 - 10:26 AM Raptor, you should be well advised that threads about popular culture are ridiculed here, so it's a good idea not to even bother starting one. Most Mudcat people detest the fact that they own a car and not a ox-cart, let alone watch popular shows on a television. |
Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: Raptor Date: 15 Nov 01 - 10:35 AM So lets talk about my ox-cart then are you saying that I should not trade it in for a new car? Raptor |
Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: GUEST,Lionel Date: 15 Nov 01 - 10:36 AM SharonA - a traditional rustic handicraft not unlike Teasing Borage. I take it that you are not UK based since flycatching is well known in N America and Wold-Garbling is more local to the UK. Stealing more than a groats worth of teased borage was punishable in The British Isles up to the 19C by transportation to Botany Bay where the convicts were compelled to knit Botany Wool sweaters. (No, I'am just making it up, I hope that wern't looking forward to taking it up as a new hobby.) |
Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: SharonA Date: 15 Nov 01 - 10:50 AM No, Lionel, I wouldn't take it up as a hobby. I work for a seed company, so I tease borage for a living (it's part of the make-up and hairdo preparations for the photography shoots)! |
Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: Clinton Hammond Date: 15 Nov 01 - 10:56 AM Absolutely not! There's enough drek on tv without resorting to that bottom feeder... The History channel runs GOOD reality tv... Pioneer Quest and the like... |
Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: CarolC Date: 15 Nov 01 - 11:00 AM I've never seen any of either one. I don't anticipate ever seeing any of them in the future.
Jack the Sailor... what are beer goggles? GUEST... I don't own a car. Don't own an ox-cart, either. Does that make me a pre-luddite, luddite? Or a cave-person? |

Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: CarolC Date: 15 Nov 01 - 11:10 AM I don't know, Raptor. I'm not knocking it. I just don't have any interest in it. I know this based on what I know about the basic premise of the show. To each his/her own, eh? |

Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: Raptor Date: 15 Nov 01 - 11:13 AM I was looking for light conversation not condensation! If watching t.v. shows is beneath you why than do you feel the need to show you're disaproval in others isn't that beneath you too? And why do you have a t.v.? And why post to a thread that you do not care about? And if 1 out of 7 people suffer from hemmaroids does that mean the other 6 enjoy them? Raptor |
Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: Raptor Date: 15 Nov 01 - 11:16 AM Well put Carol To each thier own! Raptor |
Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: SharonA Date: 15 Nov 01 - 12:05 PM Lighten up, Raptor! Nobody's said yet that he/she doesn't like or watch ANY television! As far as I can tell, we ARE having a light conversation about whether we watch a particular program or not. (Remember, you asked the question!) And no post to this thread, thus far, has stated or implied any disapproval of you, simply disinterest in or distaste for the show. So please take Carol's words, "To each his/her own" to heart, and let us have our likes and dislikes without being criticized for them! Thank you. By the way, when you said "condensation", did you mean to say "condescension"? |
Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: Raptor Date: 15 Nov 01 - 12:12 PM I not upset and I can't spell! sorry! Raptor |
Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: catspaw49 Date: 15 Nov 01 - 12:15 PM Well Raptor, I got 3 TV's and love cars and I can't stand "Survivor." To be fair, I've only tried it a time or two and I get stuck listening to Bryant Gumbel and whatshername talking about it once a week. It's probably my fault that I don't get it, but I think it's a stupid fucking premise. I don't go for any of these reality/conflict shows. Human behavior? Gimmee a break man.......Although I was interested last week to hear that one of the women in the current series neede help in getting a tick off her ass. PBS, Discovery, A&E, Bravo, Comedy Channel........Virtually anything including "SpongeBob Squarepants" beats the livin' shit out of most netwirk crap and especially Survivor and it's ilk. Just a cretinous opinion mind you......... Spaw |
Subject: RE: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: Max Date: 15 Nov 01 - 12:45 PM SpongeBob Squarepants Rocks. |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: Steve in Idaho Date: 15 Nov 01 - 01:05 PM I was looking for light conversation not condensation! I condensed once - made for a wet experience - TOWEL wet - not just a light hearted mist. If watching t.v. shows is beneath you why than do you feel the need to show you're disaproval in others isn't that beneath you too? I watch the shit out of TV whenever I can. My favorite TV show is PBS's "Red Green Show" as I just love the guy who plays the radio! And why do you have a t.v.? To watch? Is this a test? And why post to a thread that you do not care about? Because work is incredibly boring and I'd rather waste your tax dollars doing something I like to do! And if 1 out of 7 people suffer from hemmaroids does that mean the other 6 enjoy them? I have always enjoyed my hemroids - especially when I was doing a lot of horseback riding. Nothing like a rough trot to bring out the best in me than hemroids at a trot. And I can't spell worth diddly either! Hope this assists Another light moment brought to you by the folks at Miller Light - the brewing company that really gives a shit about beer goggles! Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: Don Firth Date: 15 Nov 01 - 01:29 PM I'm pretty much with 'spaw up yonder. Some time back I tried to watch one or two of the "reality" shows, but just couldn't get into them. About the only things I watch on commercial TV are "Everybody Loves Raymond" (the ultimate disfunctional family -- cracks me up!) and (okay, I'm really weird!) "Enterprise." I'm still living in hope that they'll get it together. In relation to what they said they were trying to do (return to the "Sense of Wonder" of early science fiction), so far, the "gee whiz!" factor is totally insufficient. Don Firth |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: SharonA Date: 15 Nov 01 - 01:35 PM Spongebob DOES rock! (I can just see Áine in the role of Sandy, the undersea squirrel from Texas!) And I too love to cringe along with Raymond. |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: MMario Date: 15 Nov 01 - 01:42 PM I certainly can't talk - I am willing to watch (and enjoy) Iron Chef marathons - |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: CarolC Date: 15 Nov 01 - 01:49 PM I'll cop to watching Martha Stewart. Will I ever have credibility in the Mudcat again? Did I ever have it before? |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: catspaw49 Date: 15 Nov 01 - 02:55 PM Geeziz Carol........you need treatment at the NYCFTTS!! I can't stand the whatever she is. I gave up on Martha when she made the homemade potato chips with the parsley sprig imbedded into each one. That's friggin' insane........ I'd like to burst onto her set sometime and take a piss on whatever artsy-fartsy litle thing she's doing although I'd probably have a fashionable bow with glittery ribbons tied on my dick before I could finish whizzing. I can't imagine having sex with her either..........she'd have some cutesy little thing for every part of foreplay and by the time you actually got around to it you could have finished "War and Peace." The mind boggles over what crafty shit she does with condoms........... Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: Louie Roy Date: 15 Nov 01 - 03:15 PM NO NO NO AFTER THE FIRST ONE IN MY OPINION CBS IS BEATING THIS SHOW TO DEATH AND ACCORDING TO THE TV CRITICS IT IS THE LEAST WATCHED SHOW ON TELEVISION LOUIE ROY |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: CarolC Date: 15 Nov 01 - 03:44 PM I saw that potato chip one, Spaw!
I just find watching cooking shows comforting for some reason. Maybe it's a sort of tranquilizer for my frayed nerves after I've watched too many hours of news of politics and disaster coverage.
But I live for Ranger Gord on the 'Red Green' show. (bet you still watch Martha when nobody's looking, Spaw) |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: MMario Date: 15 Nov 01 - 03:50 PM 'spaw only watches martha for Guy Wolff |

What's the matter, Guy can't watch it for himself? (just kidding. I know what you're talking about, MMario.) |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: catspaw49 Date: 15 Nov 01 - 04:06 PM Yeah.........I do watch and I do look for Guy..........maybe someday........ Glad to see some others like SpongeBob, including Max. And of course I love old Red too...another fine Canadjun product. I gotta' admit to liking a lot of the things the kids watch on Nick and Toons. "Arnold" is really one of the better "message" shows for kids I've ever seen, however "Ed, Edd, & Eddy" can all kiss my ass. And has anybody caught the Adult Swim Hour with a toon called "Home Movie?"..........That one just cracks me up. "Law and Order" and all of it's permutations is good and I watch "Crossing Jordan" strictly for Jill Hennessey. Those are about the only network things I watch. "Survivor?" Bleackkhk!!! Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: Little Hawk Date: 15 Nov 01 - 04:15 PM They made a big mistake locating the latest "Survivor" show in Africa... They should have parachuted those dimwits into central Afghanistan! Now that would make for a really suspenseful show, and would attract a whole lot more viewers, I'm sure. And the title of the show would finally take on some real meaning... - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: Jack the Sailor Date: 15 Nov 01 - 05:31 PM I think they should have survivor on the shores of Great Slave Lake,(Canadian Artic) summer or winter. There you'd have to do some surviving! "OK, you catch the polar bear, I'll cook it!" |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: Steve in Idaho Date: 15 Nov 01 - 06:02 PM Sex with Martha Stewart - Spaw you are more perverted than I originally thought. Sticking your tongue up Cletus's butt was one thing - but Martha?? I mean think about it - to even have the mental courage to envisage such an idea - Wow. Even I with my altered neuroanatomy couldn't get there without your assistance. Makes Pearly Shells seem . . . . so . . . . . trivial. I bow to your broad bandwidth thought processes oh Master - A severely humbled Steve |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: catspaw49 Date: 15 Nov 01 - 06:21 PM Uh.....thanks there Steve......I think.........But I gotta' stop this nasty rumor about the tongue and Cletus. I believe you are thinking not of Cletus the hilljack, but of Cleigh O'Possum, my little ass blown possum buddy. Scroll a bit over halfway down THIS PAGE for a picture of Cletus demoing a product for his Uncle Booger. Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: SeanM Date: 15 Nov 01 - 11:12 PM I'm seeing "Survivor" as a much more viable show and much closer to the real idea of being a 'survivior' with a few changes...
Get an island out of any territorial waters... M |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: SeanM Date: 15 Nov 01 - 11:20 PM Oh - yes I tried watching 'Survivor'. I saw an episode of the first one. Hated it. Absolutely. If Raptor is the abberation behind putting it on the air, then I WANT THE HOUR OF MY LIFE BACK. I would have been better served flicking boogers at the ceiling. I can see how some people get a kick off of these things - after all, it provides the same "let's watch people be really ugly at each other" thrill that soap operas do, while letting viewers feel superior to the soap watchers because it's "a competition". Me? I watch Iron Chef, and love it - I love cooking, and could give a damn about the 'competition' angle. It's fabulous watching the cooks deal with the time constraints - and gives me many bad ideas to inflict on my household. I watch a few really bad cartoons (Spongebob, Powerpuff Girls, and a Japanese redubbed one on the 'Adult Swim' that 'spaw mentioned), a few really good ones, and that's about it. Oh yeah - hockey. Gotta add hockey in there. Don't know why - I could care less who wins, and the only team I could be considered to 'support' has possibly slightly less chance of winning the Stanley Cup than I do. But it's ALL in my opinion better than Survivor. Survivor the band is better than Survivor. Doesn't make you less good of a person for watching it. But if you're going to watch horrific TV, at least admit that it's horrific TV. M |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: 53 Date: 16 Nov 01 - 04:49 AM no not this year, we watched all of last years and we actually got hooked on the show, this season and last i think that our favorite show is CSI. bob |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: Raptor Date: 16 Nov 01 - 09:14 AM Let me get this straight! Martha Stewart? Cartoons? Iron Chef? Rad Green? Everyone Loves Ramond? Spunge Bob? Hockey? Hockey? HOCKEY????? Yeah I can see why you wouldn't like to watch a bunch of idiots running around triing to do some useless tasks only to end up fighting, When theres HOCKEY to watch!!!!!!!! If Hockey was a real sport they'ed have cheerleaders!
At least the hockey players are getting smarter. When they got into fights they'ed throw down thier gloves and punch each other in the helmets Now they've figgured out that they are holding Clubs.(marty McSorley) Raptor |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: CarolC Date: 16 Nov 01 - 10:07 AM Like I said, Raptor, to each his/her own. Right? |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: Naemanson Date: 16 Nov 01 - 10:27 AM Ok, Ok, I'll be the second one to admit it, Raptor. I watch Survivor. I ignored the first year completely. I ignored half of the Australian season. But my daughter was religious about watching it and occasionally I would wander through the living room and maake snide comments about the show. Then in Australia one of the tribe members killed the pig and later fell in the fire and burned his hands. I started to "keep Amy company" while the show was on. I started to see that the people were suffering and to see what they could have done to avoid that suffering. then I started to cue in to the interplay among the players and how they worked the system to try to manuipulate the votes. Next thing I knew, I was hooked. This season has been very interesting. One tribe has broken along age lines with the younger members at odds with the older members. I have enjoyed the chicken sequence and the stupid mistakes. I get a kick out of the frustrations that may or may not have been easily handled another way. And the tick-on-the-butt sequence was fun. But over all I agree with my sister who asked, "Where do they get all those people with perfect bodies and no brains?" |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: SharonA Date: 16 Nov 01 - 11:59 AM Naemanson says: "I started to see that the people were suffering and to see what they could have done to avoid that suffering." Wellllllll...... they COULD have avoided that suffering by NOT being greedy enough to volunteer to go through all that suffering on the off chance that they might win a lot of money!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Is anyone watching the new Survivor From: Raptor Date: 16 Nov 01 - 12:03 PM I don't think lack of tampons and ticks on yer ass could be called suffering! Raptor |
