Subject: Max in South Wales - Mudgather! From: Anne Lister Date: 18 Aug 10 - 11:18 AM I'll try to back this up with emails to those Mudcatters locally that I have email addresses for - but the plan is that we will meet Max from Newport train station on Sunday 29th August and bring him back to our home here in Pontypool. On the Monday we'll both be working at Llancaiach Fawr, and although I'm sure Max would find that interesting for a while I'm not sure he'd want to spend all day there. So any Mudcatter who would like to offer their services as a tour guide - you could either come here to pick him up or come to Llancaiach (and return him to us either here after 5.45 pm or there before 5 pm). On the Tuesday I'm happy to show off some local stuff ... BUT IN THE EVENING we'll be hosting a Mudgather. My thoughts for this is that we can have a barbecue (hoping the weather is kind to us) - if all of you intending to come can bring something to sling on the barbecue as well as something to drink then I'll provide salads and jacket spuds etc, and probably some desserts. If you're reading this and you're in South Wales on Tuesday 31st August (or close enough to come to Pontypool, so this includes Bristol, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Hereford etc) let me know if you're intending to come. If you'd like directions, you'll need to send me a pm with your regular email. Should be fun! And after our experiences hosting Cllr's friends recently, it'd be great if someone could bring a bottle of Penderyn whisky or some Merlyn, to give a true taste of Wales! |
Subject: RE: Max in South Wales - Mudgather! From: pavane Date: 18 Aug 10 - 12:19 PM Great shame - I live in South Wales but work in London, so I can't make it. But say hello from me and thanks for all the good work. Are you thinking of taking him as far as the Gower? Or Brecon Beacons? |
Subject: RE: Max in South Wales - Mudgather! 31 August 2010 From: My guru always said Date: 18 Aug 10 - 02:13 PM Pavance, he'll be transferred to the Gower after the Mudgather to stay with CraneDriver & SussexCarole for a day or so before returning to London. Have you noticed there's a London session for Max on Thursday Sept 2nd? It's at the Black Lion in Plaistow and there's a thread about it somewhere.... |
Subject: RE: Max in South Wales - Mudgather! 31 August 2010 From: Anne Lister Date: 18 Aug 10 - 02:48 PM Might well make it to the Beacons on Tuesday morning (it's not far from here) or if someone is picking him up from Llancaiach it'd be even easier. |
Subject: RE: Max in South Wales - Mudgather! 31 August 2010 From: Splott Man Date: 19 Aug 10 - 04:02 AM I'm happy to do the Monday with Max, Anne. I'll come to Llancaiach Fawr at a time to suit. What do you fancy Max? Down a coal mine at Big Pit? More Welsh heritage at St Fagan's? Mountain scenery? Coastal scenery? I can't offer Welsh Blues though. I'm working in Crickhowell that evening, so if I can hang around for a cuppa for an hour or so at tea time (food at the gig, so no feeding worries). I announced the Mudgather at Llantrisant last night, and have notified Frank Hennessy. Cheers Splott Man |
Subject: RE: Max in South Wales - Mudgather! 31 August 2010 From: pavane Date: 19 Aug 10 - 04:09 AM I will try and make it to the Black Lion then. And I am sure that CraneDriver will take good care of him. |
Subject: RE: Max in South Wales - Mudgather! 31 August 2010 From: Anne Lister Date: 19 Aug 10 - 04:18 AM You can certainly have a cuppa with us, Ned! |
Subject: RE: Max in South Wales - Mudgather! 31 August 2010 From: GUEST,Andrew Date: 19 Aug 10 - 04:31 AM Excuse my ignorance but who is Max? Andrew, Bluegrasser from near Pontypool |
Subject: RE: Max in South Wales - Mudgather! 31 August 2010 From: pavane Date: 19 Aug 10 - 04:41 AM No-one imporant. Just the guy who started and runs Mudcat, and on whose servers it resides. |
Subject: RE: Max in South Wales - Mudgather! 31 August 2010 From: My guru always said Date: 19 Aug 10 - 04:48 AM Guest Andrew: Max is coming over from the USA on his first trip to the UK, being passed from pillar to post by us MudCatters. As pavane says, he's the founder and owner of MudCat which started off rooted in Blues which is his first love, and he's a great player too. Hope you can get along to the MudGather, if you don't know where Anne Lister is based and need directions, check her website! |
Subject: RE: Max in South Wales - Mudgather! 31 August 2010 From: SussexCarole Date: 19 Aug 10 - 04:57 AM Max will be with us here on Gower from late Tuesday night until Thursday morning. We are planning sightseeing on Wednesday during the day (Llantrisant in the evening). If anyone would like to share Wednesday with us here in Llangennith let us know |
Subject: RE: Max in South Wales - Mudgather! 31 August 2010 From: pavane Date: 19 Aug 10 - 05:34 AM Don't let him fall off the end of Wales! |
Subject: RE: Max in South Wales - Mudgather! 31 August 2010 From: pavane Date: 19 Aug 10 - 05:36 AM Better have some (blues) harps with me in Plaistow, then |
Subject: RE: Max in South Wales - Mudgather! 31 August 2010 From: Zen Date: 19 Aug 10 - 07:02 AM I'll be down from Scotland on the Pembrokeshire coast that week. What's the nearest Max is likely to be staying/visiting? Probably still a little far away I suspect! |
Subject: RE: Max in South Wales - Mudgather! 31 August 2010 From: Crane Driver Date: 19 Aug 10 - 08:05 AM hi Zen, Nearest to Pembrokeshire would be ourselves on the Gower peninsula. See our website here But we'll be taking Max to Llantrisant Folk Club Wednesday night and he's leaving Thursday, so unless you can join us during the day, which you're very welcome to do, I fear that won't be much help. Andrew |
Subject: RE: Max in South Wales - Mudgather! 31 August 2010 From: Charley Noble Date: 19 Aug 10 - 08:08 AM Treat him gently. We'll still need him back here some time to boot up the servers. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: Max in South Wales - Mudgather! 31 August 2010 From: Newport Boy Date: 20 Aug 10 - 03:25 AM Crane Driver - we'll be at our caravan at Hillend during Wednesday, and would like to meet up during the day. What are you planning? Anne - sorry I can't make Tuesday, but we're committed to be at Llangennith Tuesday morning. Phil |
Subject: RE: Max in South Wales - Mudgather! 31 August 2010 From: Crane Driver Date: 20 Aug 10 - 07:50 AM Hmmmmm - planning is probably a bit strong. Depends on the weather, for one thing. Depends on when we wake up after getting back from the Mudgather. Probably a late breakfast is on the cards, followed by visits to some of Gower's more scenic locations - no time to do 'em all! You're very welcome to join us - give us a ring (number is on website) and we'll work something out. Andrew |

So many friends (and a husband) I have met through my time on Mudcat. We'll show Max the smugglers bays here and perhaps we'll sing him the song...does he do D minor?? xx |
