Subject: What's your good news? From: Kim C Date: 04 May 01 - 10:50 AM All right, y'all, I think it's time for another good news thread. The Big Gig is this weekend, teacher says I'm in great fiddling shape, Mister knows all the words to his songs, and we actually sound like we know what we're doing! Calcium supplement appears to be helping the evil PMS affliction. Taking a great vacation next month to Williamsburg, VA. Anybody know any good pubs/restaurants/whatever there? I can do 30 real pushups. Two months ago, I couldn't even do ONE. I have been doing Tae Bo since Christmas, and I've even noticed that it's improved my singing. My health is good, my husband is a great guy, my car runs, my job is steady, I have more friends than I can begin to count. Life is good. Anyone else? |
Subject: RE: BS: What's your good news? From: Pseudolus Date: 04 May 01 - 10:59 AM Wow, how can I top that?? I think it's great that things are good for you Kim. I'm feeling kinda lucky myself. I have a great wife, my kids are getting to the age that I can have real meaningful conversations and discussions with them, I'm playing regularly at places that apreciate me, I enjoy my real job, and I've lost 11 pounds. Other than that, life sucks.....kidding!!! Frank |
Subject: RE: BS: What's your good news? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 04 May 01 - 11:00 AM Good on yer Kim! What's Tae Bo??? Will it help me do 30 push ups and improve my singing? ;-) Cheers Dave the good news Gnome |
Subject: RE: BS: What's your good news? From: MMario Date: 04 May 01 - 11:00 AM I am most likely (about 75 % certain at the moment) to be spending Memorial Day weekend in the DALLAS area!!! Scarborough Ren-faire, here I come! (doo-dah!) |
Subject: RE: BS: What's your good news? From: Mrrzy Date: 04 May 01 - 11:05 AM Fridays After Five has begun! This is the weekly outdoor concert in Charlottesville, VA, goes from now through early October. Lots of beards, lots of tie-dye, lots of alternative sexual styles, a real contrast from the corporate America Cville usually is to us suits! |
Subject: RE: BS: What's your good news? From: Kim C Date: 04 May 01 - 11:05 AM Dave, Tae Bo is a sort of kickboxing workout by a martial arts champ named Billy Blanks. The first time I did it, I thought I was going to die! It's very challenging and moves very fast, but that way I feel like I've accomplished something when I'm done. There's a whole series of videos you can buy! ;-) |

Subject: RE: BS: What's your good news? From: Matt_R Date: 04 May 01 - 11:06 AM Well.... This rotten semester is finally windind down...two final crits next Thursday and the semester is over. Summer is coming, and I'm hopefully getting a job as a copy editor with the school newspaper. I'm getting a web cam next week. I've got the new Stereophonics album. My friend Ryan is moving back to the Newman Center this summer, so he and I are planning a whole summer of writing songs together, mostly parodies. We're going to be working on "Ryan's Cheesey Christian Rock Album" as well. Maybe do some music together with Pepe for Mass. We're also in the beginning stages of planning a haunted house at the Newman Center at Halloween. Not a "boo!" kind of thing, but an unsettling psychologically chilling haunted house. Most of all, I am in love and happier than I've ever been in my entire life. |
Subject: RE: BS: What's your good news? From: Kim C Date: 04 May 01 - 11:07 AM We used to sing a song in Madrigals in high school: I got a home up in-a that kingdom, aint-a that good news.... |
Subject: RE: BS: What's your good news? From: Wavestar Date: 04 May 01 - 11:08 AM I just finished all my classes, handed in the last of my essays, and have completed course work for another academic year... only one left for this degree! I still exams, but those are weeks away. The weather is beautiful, the Beltaine Fayre is tomorrow, my boyfriend is wonderful, and I've just eaten strawberry mousse and a warm almond crossaint. Oh, and my 15 average is entirely secure, and looks to be going up! (Marks. It's pretty good.) I'm happy :) -J |
Subject: RE: BS: What's your good news? From: Jande Date: 04 May 01 - 11:11 AM Hmmm... Life is indeed good. My partner is a fun-loving, wise, affectionate, gentle and exciting man who matches me in every way. A true soulmate. I have a beautiful and talented (multi-talented) daughter whose life is also good. The sun is shining! I have a new bicycle (peugot mountain-bike 21-speed) bright red witha matching helmet! My partner has just written two more songs, and I have written one more. The allergies are not as bad this year as in previous years. I'm already getting a nice golden tan from being able to go outside more this spring. Aye! Life is good. ~ Jande |
Subject: RE: BS: What's your good news? From: Peg Date: 04 May 01 - 11:14 AM gosh Kim, I could use this right now. (After being laid off at Christmas, losing a dear friend on Burns Night, and getting evicted this month...) Okay! There must be something! I have been walking 3-4 miles per day and feeling great! The extra-warm weather in Boston this week has brought out all the apple blossoms! Just finished grdaes for my classes this semester and start teaching a summer course May 21 through June 27. I then, technically, have the summer off. I visited my parents last week and though their health is bad they are following up on their plans to move into a house easier for my Mom to navigate (she has MS); this has been a long time coming and I think all will be well. My apartment hunting is progressing...I might actually find something suitable before I get kicked out! (how's that for optimism!) Despite all I am happy and healthy. I have great friends who are very supportive. There is lots of great traditional music in this town. I have met some wonderful people through the singers' club I attend, and we were featured in the Boston Globe two Sundays ago! (yes, my picture was in the paper). I get to see free movies because of my work (how cool is that?) All in all, I am very lucky!!!! (I feel better now) Peg

We are celebrating our 28th wedding anniversary tomorrow. Likewise son #3's 20th birthday. Spring had definitely sprung. And I have friends I can share all this with. What could be better? That thar Tae Bo sounds a bit energetic for a old fat Gnome though. I think I'll start with dominoes and work up to it gently;-) Cheers Dave the Gnackered Gnome |

Subject: RE: BS: What's your good news? From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 04 May 01 - 11:23 AM I have a day off, it's a beautiful day, my concert is tonight and tomorrow, and I get to go to Old Songs (already got my ticket in the mail!) I try every day to help my kids cultivate an "attitude of gratitued." The practice is paying off, since there's so much stress I could be focusing on- but the good things shine on! |
Subject: RE: BS: What's your good news? From: Kim C Date: 04 May 01 - 11:25 AM Dave, there's a Tae Bo video especially for you slow folks! ;-) And congratulizations on your anniversary! I forgot to mention, as I was leaving for work this morning, I took a moment to look at the splendid dark red roses blooming next to my door, and around the yard. I can't take credit for them because the landlady does the yard work - but they sure are pretty. And the daisies have begun to spring up, too. Sounds great, everyone. Keep going! |

Fib, Billy Blanks sells a standing contact bag, for those who want something to punch/kick. He also has one of those big padded things that you can sucker someone into holding for you so you can beat on them without them getting hurt. ;-) It's our monthly Pot Luck day here at the office, so in about an hour I'll be getting some yummy things to eat!!!! I fell going into the classroom and sprained my ankle, but like the good nurses and friends they are, my classmates got a trashcan to prop my foot on, fetched an ice pack, and provided strong medication, and I sat and took that 4 1/2 hour exam. Made a "B". The good news of all this is that, for one last time I got to sit among some wonderful friends I've made, and it helped me to see what I'M made of. Subject: RE: BS: What's your good news? From: Ebbie Date: 04 May 01 - 07:24 PM I just got a call from a piano tuner who hung up on me this morning- he apologized! Considering I had done nothing wrong- he was angry at another tuner- the incident had left a bad taste in my mouth. Now all is well. I wonder why we, as human beings, resist apologizing? The outcome of an apology is almost uniformly positive. My other good news is that I had a small medical procedure done last week and this week I got the news that everything tests out fine- all benign, and all taken care of. Is it the stars, or is it in ourselves? :) Ebbie |
