Subject: Justa Picker's Guitar Sound Clip From: GUEST Date: 19 May 05 - 10:22 AM There is a sound clip of some fine guitar picking by Justa Picker in an otherwise pejorative BS thread down below (Bobert/MG slugfest). I would like to see and hear more of this type of music posted up here in the Music Section. It would be helpful for folks to post sound clips of music when someone is asking for the melody of a song during a search. That would be much better than a MIDI. The tune could be on guitar, violin, harmonica, or whatever instrument one could play. Can Joe or someone else explain how to post sound clips on the Mudcat Forum? This would also be a good way to "showcase" the musical talent of Mudcatters. Also, a technical description on how to record your playing on the computer would be great. Thanks. The sound clip's on Justa's site, but anybody can copy the link and paste it elsewhere. Justa Picker's out-take of a current home recording project. --Jeri |
Subject: RE: Justa Pickers's Guitar Sound Clip From: open mike Date: 19 May 05 - 12:53 PM the best way to hear what mud cats sound like is to support the cat by purchasing the set of c.d.'s featuring music donated by our members. good idea about sound clips thouhg--do yo mean .wav files? |
Subject: RE: Justa Pickers's Guitar Sound Clip From: GUEST Date: 19 May 05 - 12:58 PM OM, I agree with purchasing the CDs. Yes ma'am, .wav files would be fine and maybe that is what JP's file is. |
Subject: RE: Justa Pickers's Guitar Sound Clip From: PoppaGator Date: 19 May 05 - 01:36 PM I haven't heard this latest Justa Picker "release" yet ~ I'll be checking it out in just a minute or two ~ but I remember a few months ago when he posted another sound clip, a terrific rendition of "Don't Think Twice," to a thread about "Dylan Songs that You Cover" (or words to that effect). That sound clip featured a female vocalist; I was a little confused because I had assumed all along the JP was a guy, but then (wrongly) assumed that I had been mistaken, thinking that the clip showcased his singing as well as his playing. That clip also featured a number of instruments in addition to the singer, and I'm still wondering whether JP multi-tracked 'em all or if he organized a band... |
Subject: RE: Justa Pickers's Guitar Sound Clip From: Grab Date: 19 May 05 - 01:49 PM Guest, please can you give a link to the post (or at least to the thread)? (So many pejorative BS threads, where do you look? ;-) Graham. |
Subject: RE: Justa Pickers's Guitar Sound Clip From: GUEST Date: 19 May 05 - 01:59 PM An indirect link to the thread that takes you just to JPs post so you don't have to go "down below": How 'bout Moving this Sound File Up Here? Joe/Clones: Can you move the sound file up here? Thanks |
Subject: RE: Justa Pickers's Guitar Sound Clip From: GUEST Date: 19 May 05 - 02:07 PM I think JPs sound file is a mp3? |

Subject: RE: Justa Pickers's Guitar Sound Clip From: Justa Picker Date: 19 May 05 - 08:35 PM You guys/gals are all very kind and I appreciate the nice comments. It is in MP3 format. For my standards, I consider the recording very very raw for several personal-taste reasons. However because this tune represented about 2 weeks of practising, arranging, re-working and recording, I wanted to keep it for posterity (while I work on re-doing it and getting it right - to my ears) so it was mixed down rather hastily and then dumped onto my hard drive and professionally-speaking the overall mix is pretty shitty. I hadn't actually intended to share this (as I don't believe in sharing works in progress), but another thread on the forum gave me the impulse to just go ahead and do it what-the-hell. I used 3 Martin guitars and 3 tracks to do this song. The primary track is what you hear on the first run through at the beginning (1976 Martin HD-28) which goes all the way through the tune, and then later I overdubbed the fills on a different guitar (a recent, custom Martin OO-18 12 fretter) and then the solo was done on my 2002 OM-42). Everything was played bare fingered (bit of nail but mostly skin, ala Mark Knopfler style :-) No song title yet, but if I could afford them I'd get Taj Mahal and perhaps Bonnie Raitt to sing a verse or two of "The Glory of Love" over some of the chord changes. :-) Regarding the reference to that "Dylan" tune, I did all the instruments and just brought in a female singer/friend to do the vocal. Cheaper than hiring a band. :-) Again, I am most appreciative of the kind comments and thanks again. I'll let y'all know when CD II is ready when the time comes. (It's gonna be a few months yet.) |

Subject: RE: Justa Pickers's Guitar Sound Clip From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 20 May 05 - 08:07 PM As far as the Mudcat Blue Special CDs go JustaPicker is on there too! I think all the artists are good. My review of the Mudcat Blue Special CDs (now that I have finished listening to them!) - "Think you're into music? Essential Purchase!" Robin |
Subject: RE: Justa Pickers's Guitar Sound Clip From: Wolfgang Date: 21 May 05 - 07:39 AM I know JP's music from the tracks on the Mudcat CDs and ever since then I think when I see this name in a thread I think 'Picker' is a fine choice of name but 'Justa' doesn't feel right. It is a tiny bit too modest. Wolfgang |
Subject: RE: Justa Pickers's Guitar Sound Clip From: GUEST,Big Mick Date: 21 May 05 - 10:06 PM I have been a pretty lucky guy, in that I know many first rate, in fact world class, guitar players. None are any better than Justa Picker. And by the way, Justa is a lie. I have heard him play the piano too. This is a very talented man with a discerning ear, and I fully intend to have him do some tracks on my CD. Keep it up, buddy. But you are a Martin snob ...... hahahahahahahahaa Mick |
Subject: RE: Justa Pickers's Guitar Sound Clip From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 22 May 05 - 02:55 PM Hey JP - that's a fine piece of playing. Love to hear more - do you have CDs available in the UK? Strollin'. PS: the Virtuoso Cleaner worked a treat on my J-40 - thanks for the tip. |
Subject: RE: Justa Pickers's Guitar Sound Clip From: Ron Davies Date: 22 May 05 - 10:54 PM I'd sure like to get on the list of those who would like to be notified when the CD comes out. That's the sweetest picking I've heard for a long time. I'd bet Doc Watson or Norman Blake would be happy to play with JustaPicker. |
