Hi

I know this isn't a song request..... but just between us friends........ We're trying to think of a name for an Irish / Australian band. (2 fellas, 1 girl playing a mixture of Irish, Celtic and Aussie stuff.)

I can't think of anything that hasn't already been used.

Anyone got any suggestions????

If it makes a difference, I'm the Irish one and the two blokes are Aussie. Any variations on "Paddy Spade and the Diggers"??

It got my 4 year old running into the room to see what I was laughing at!!!

"Colleen and Bruce" (Would give you the chance to do a little comedy on stage about which of the blokes is Bruce. But this name is not suitable if you want to become famous and go solo.)

Alison, I cannot for the life of me find the song I'm thinking of - neither in my head or the DT, but I'm sure I heard it on Fiona Ritchie's show. It was about the Irish going to Australia and how they pined for the home, trying to fit into a strange land. The refrain was haunting; something to do with green threads among the gold. Maybe there's an idea in it.

I have the great good fortune to be on my way to the beach - perhaps in the quiet it'll come to me!

Lots of good suggestions here, working out which not to use will be a problem.

We have sung as a duo: "Foster and Alison", but the bass player might feel a bit left out if we don't find a new name.

Well, if you could get an Argentinian or a cowboy into the band I'd suggest The All Beef Paddies, but I guess Australia is better known for sheep.

Do you want a funny name or a serious name? Maybe The Fatal Shore, after the book of that name. Shillelagh Law? (See Finnegan's Wake) Or The Whacking Sheilas (as in "whacking shillelaghs", from Arthur McBride) Sheila and the Shillelaghs?

Sheel-na-Jig? (as in sheel-na-gig) (see Wonderbra thread, perhaps)Or Sheila Jig, I suppose. Summer In The Wintertime?

Mutton Accordian? Dingle Dingos? Wombats of Wexford?

The song Dani refers to is "Green Among the Gold" (1991 Steve and Rosalind Barnes). One recording is on the CD "Emigrant Eyes" by Geraldine and Danny Doyle on the Rego label, R-3018. This CD is one of my very favorites. Listen to the song, it may suggest a name something like "Green & Gold." (Also my high school colors, yuck!)
