Subject: RE: So Portland song circle with Dan Schatz From: maeve Date: 07 Aug 10 - 06:50 AM FYI Truelove and I are hosting a yard sale today, including many potted fruit trees (mostly antique varieties of apples, possibly a few pear, peach, cherry, and plum trees). If anyone is looking for suchlike, throw a PM this way. I could deliver tonight before Dan's concert. Yes, I suspect I'll be there. |
Subject: RE: So Portland song circle with Dan Schatz From: bbc Date: 07 Aug 10 - 09:17 AM Duane D. & I might be able to attend, but we'd need to know time & location ASAP, because we'll be leaving for the day soon. Just saw this thread. Please, someone, PM me if you can! Barbara |
Subject: RE: So Portland song circle with Dan Schatz From: GUEST,kendall Date: 07 Aug 10 - 05:02 PM Neither Jacqui nor I are in great shape today but we will be there at least for a while. |
Subject: RE: So Portland song circle with Dan Schatz From: Jeri Date: 07 Aug 10 - 05:15 PM I'm sorry. I wasn't home for much of July and braising in the heat, and I'm enjoying the nice autumn weather and not doing anything. (Of course, there's a not-quite-dead lawn that should be mowed, but right now, I'm appreciating being a lazy slob.) |
Subject: RE: So Portland song circle with Dan Schatz From: bbc Date: 07 Aug 10 - 09:26 PM It would have been fun to join you, but we didn't get the when & where information till after we had left for the day at the Lobster Festival in Rockland. Heard Mustard's Retreat & 2 of David Mallett's sons sing; that was fun, too! best, Barbara |

Subject: RE: So Portland song circle with Dan Schatz From: TRUBRIT Date: 08 Aug 10 - 02:16 PM i thought it went very well -- a goodly number of people, two adorable youngsters (Kiran and Leon) and Jacui's grandson Louis(Lewis - no sure how you spell it) were there......food was good and plentul and music was super... |
Subject: RE: So Portland song circle with Dan Schatz From: SINSULL Date: 08 Aug 10 - 02:42 PM It was a wonderful evening. Some surprise visitors from the DC area. Two adorable two year olds followint "the big boy", Lewis around. Bountiful food with Deborah convinced there wan't enough. And music, beautiful music. Dan led off with an hour of songs mostly with choruses ranging from trdional folk to The Rose Tatto. He played an assortment of instruments - autoharp, banjo (be still my beating herat), Kendall's twelve string and his own six. Dan has a beutiful voice and simple delivery. He could have gone on for another hour and all would have been pleased to listen. The crowd favorite must have been The Wheels On The Train Go CLACKITY CLACK. And we killed off Puff The Magic Dragon. Later the mention of Helen Scheyer led to a few "over the top" Helen songs, songs of death and goodbye. Everyone participated and it was a very special evening. Even Kendall performed - with Kiran ehtralled. I hope someone got a picture of those eyes. It was magic. Everyone go a hug goodnight from Leon - what a cutie. Some got hugs from the snake population. Jacqui was rescued several times when Morticia got a bit too amorous. LOL You had to be there. Lewis watched longingly as Dan played guitar. He was convinced that he could never play that well until he found out that Dan started at 15. Lewis is 10 and already playing by ear. heh heh Now if we can only keep him away from the electric stuff. It was a beautiful evening. But if Maeve sang I missed it while I was downstairs with Leon and Kiran. I heard Jacqui from there but missed a lot. So TRUBRIT is right. I think it went very well. I was sorry to have t end so early. SINS |
Subject: RE: So Portland song circle with Dan Schatz From: maeve Date: 08 Aug 10 - 03:20 PM It was indeed very good music from Dan, followed by Kendall's and Jacqui's delightful short set. No, Mary, I didn't sing. I had some songs and poems ready but was so weary I thought it best to drive home while I could do so safely. I left after delivering a cherry tree. The sounds of "Puff" were in the air as I drove away. Thanks for the delightful hospitality, good company and refreshments, and wonderful music. Keep a watch for the re;ease of Dan's new cd/book project. It will be a treasure. m |
Subject: RE: So Portland song circle with Dan Schatz From: Dan Schatz Date: 08 Aug 10 - 06:53 PM I would have loved to hear you sing, Maeve. Next time. Puff and Wheels - hmmm, weren't those the songs you sang, Sins? (And a great version of Brother Can You Spare a Dime, among other things). Dan |

Subject: RE: So Portland song circle with Dan Schatz From: kendall Date: 09 Aug 10 - 06:33 AM That little blond guy was funny; I was having some congestion and making subtle coughing sounds. He started doing it too! I asked him if he was making fun of me and he nodded his head YES. What a cutie. He gave us all a hug when we left. Kiran gave me a hug too when we left. I was feeling like death taking a crap but I'm glad I went. |
Subject: RE: So Portland song circle with Dan Schatz From: jacqui.c Date: 09 Aug 10 - 08:23 AM I had a great time - very impressed by Dan's latest song writing effort, which was excellent. My non folkie family also enjoyed themselves - Lewis now has a bar to aim for with his music. Neither Kendall or I were really totally well and had to leave earlier than I would have wished, but we thoroughly enjoyed the time we had. |
Subject: RE: So Portland song circle with Dan Schatz From: Dan Schatz Date: 09 Aug 10 - 12:22 PM I'm glad you were there too - Kendall, your biggest littlest fan was absolutely entranced by the piece you two did together. Could the folks who ordered a new CD (and received the little sampler in advance) remind me who you are so I can make sure to set copies aside for you? Thanks. And Jacqui, I'm glad you liked the new song. It was only a day old as of Saturday, so I'm still smoothing out the wrinkles. Dan |
Subject: RE: So Portland song circle with Dan Schatz From: TRUBRIT Date: 09 Aug 10 - 09:50 PM so glad everyone enjoyed themselves. I always think there won't be enough food!!!!!!!! The cute little blonde came for dinner the next day as my son is home for a flying visit from CA so we had family dinner.......Leon sat at the piano and 'played' it magnificently.....when he finished, he got down, turned to me and said, 'I awesome'. I had to agree! |
