I'm sorry for firing off at you, Big Al. I guess your generalisation was not meant to be offensive.

Having nattered many an evening away in the company of two of the NUM's best, Lawrence Daly and Mick McGahey, one-time FBU general secretary Ken Cameron and others of similar ilk - all great trade-unionists - I'd be happy to enlighten GSS somewhere else.

Jacqui.c - sorry, looks like I'll be dog-sitting on Thursday, so I won't be able to go to Southwell after all. Apologies for that. If you go yourself, it's at the Dumbles pub, Westhorpe, Southwell, NG25 0ND. Have a good Christmas.

If you can get to Southwell early in the day - take in the cathedral Southwell Minster, the old workhouse, the georgian houses, the tearoom (with ducks) at Bleasby.

There is a pub in Southwell called the Bramley Apple. Because bramley cooking apples originated in those parts. I used to gig there , bout 10 years ago. It used to have a good reputatio for food.

I also used to love the bacon rolls at Waitrose supermarket cafe in Newark. packed with with Canadian bacon.

Take a picture of the castle from the bridge in the town. It was beseiged in the civil war -English civil war of course (in the 164o's)

That's OK BW - I'll probably head there on my own anyway.

Thanks for the info Al - I'll see what time I have - got to spend some with my family.

There used to be a folk night on Wednesday at the cricket pavilion in Farnsfield.

also in Farnsfield there used to be a folk club at The Red Lion.

Neither of these were widely known by the folk world.
