Subject: RE: Help! Need a band name by Monday! From: Rollo Date: 17 Oct 00 - 07:53 PM Oh Boy! What fun! You can read which post you want, in the end you will ALLWAYS get 1. a lot of help 2. a lot of interesting facts 3. (and that is most important) lot of good laugh I love it! Expecially that one about that "plumber sounds" fat women farting porn site. |
Subject: RE: Help! Need a band name by Monday! From: Max Tone Date: 17 Oct 00 - 08:04 PM It's now Wednesday, here in Scotland, so if you ain't decided yet, you've obviously blown your Monday name launch. Best advice is to stick to the name you had. Renames historically sink into obscurity. Persistence with the old one wins through in the end!.........Rob |
Subject: RE: Help! Need a band name by Monday! From: GUEST,JOhnB Date: 18 Oct 00 - 04:50 PM Had the same problem once, I went to the dictionary. There were Eight of us, the name that stuck was Octamerous. As ther are five of you I would be careful about using the name Pentangle, I think it has been taken. Maybe try it in Gaelic. JohnB |
Subject: RE: Help! Need a band name by Monday! From: Tattie Bogle Date: 18 Oct 00 - 04:57 PM Avalon definitely gone: seen them several times in Edinburgh, but they keep reincarnating - different line-up every time! Now there's a name - the She-Devils Incarnate!! |
Subject: RE: Help! Need a band name by Monday! From: annamill Date: 18 Oct 00 - 05:04 PM Has anyone suggested 'Hokey pokey and the Druids' ;-) See thread of same name using 2 years and name. Here's your chance. Love, annamill |
Subject: RE: Help! Need a band name by Monday! From: GUEST,Lisa Date: 19 Oct 00 - 03:28 PM Well, we are thoroughly embarrassed!!! Luckily, the deadline for getting a name in was not as early as we first thought, so we were able to change the name. Thanks for bringing the other "Crann Tara's" to our attention, Aine. I don't know how they got missed in our search. Anyway, thanks for all the great ideas. You might be right, Rob...a rename is probably a bad idea. Hopefully we'll see some of you in Arizona. Lisa |
Subject: RE: Help! Need a band name by Monday! From: Bert Date: 19 Oct 00 - 03:42 PM So is that your new name - 'Thoroughly embarrassed'??? |
Subject: RE: Help! Need a band name by Monday! From: GUEST,John Leeder Date: 19 Oct 00 - 03:52 PM For reasons that will mean nothing to anybody else: "The Last Bannock". |
Subject: RE: Help! Need a band name by Monday! From: Fred/Forsh Date: 19 Oct 00 - 03:58 PM Hi there! ..How about: 25%male, ? or 4+1, or Celtic Bush Band or Celtic Bush or 5 kilts & 1 bare arse, or The Lost Celts or Wandering Celts, Pluck Strum Blow & a bow, or Harping on Celtic bush band...I dunno, you decide! |
Subject: RE: Help! Need a band name by Monday! From: Snuffy Date: 19 Oct 00 - 07:38 PM 4 women 1 man? If you were east of the Atlantic I'd suggest taking your name from O'Carolan - dump the guy and call yourself Fanny Power. But I gather that fanny means something else stateside! Wassail! V |
Subject: RE: Help! Need a band name by Monday! From: Jim Dixon Date: 19 Oct 00 - 09:23 PM Someone I know has always wanted to start an all-woman dance band called the "Boom Chicks", but the time was never opportune. I guess we're way past your deadline, but maybe someone else can use it. |
Subject: RE: Help! Need a band name by Monday! From: GUEST,Lisa Date: 20 Oct 00 - 12:05 PM I probably shouldn't even ask but I would be curious to know the "history" of The Last Bannock, John. It has a neat sound to it. Lisa |
Subject: RE: Help! Need a band name by Monday! From: GUEST,John Leeder Date: 20 Oct 00 - 12:41 PM The "neat sound" is totally out of keeping with the entirely banal reasons. I made some bannock the other day, an extra large batch to use up the flour. There was one piece left; I told my son he could have it for breakfast next day. He didn't. It sat in the fridge tempting me. It was in my mind when I read the posts. I warned you... From such inconsequentialities do neat sounds arise. |
Subject: RE: Help! Need a band name by Monday! From: Matt_R Date: 20 Oct 00 - 12:47 PM I know it's rude, but I heard it from a Scottish comedian once: Tart In Trousers |
Subject: RE: Help! Need a band name by Monday! From: GUEST,John Leeder Date: 20 Oct 00 - 01:20 PM If you decide to use "The Last Bannock", you'll have to make up something more interesting in the way of a history. |
Subject: RE: Help! Need a band name by Monday! From: JTT Date: 20 Oct 00 - 06:56 PM What about Dúanaire - it means a maker or a chanter of verses. |
Subject: RE: Help! Need a band name by Monday! From: Ebbie Date: 20 Oct 00 - 07:22 PM How about Placebo? |
Subject: RE: Help! Need a band name by Monday! From: GUEST,harpandsong Date: 20 Oct 00 - 11:30 PM After much debate, we named our band after a jig in O'Neills: "Rum & Onions". We play it with another one called "Buttermilk and Praties" and intro it as "The Sailor's Breakfast Set". There are lots of great tune names. Some we didn't use: Upstairs in a Tent Wallop the Potlid Plaid Cousins Banshee's Cry As a matter of interest, I thought I was the only perosn in the world who liked "Clishmaclaver". It's what I named my art studio. Cheers, CE
