Subject: RE: BS: How many UK catters From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 08 Feb 01 - 01:42 PM And there's me on the Herts Essex border. I'm on Bill's list of 58.
Looking at the Mudcat Locator it seems likely that there are more Mudcatters around here than anywhere else, apart from the USA. The Locator's got 29 for England, two each for Wales and Scotland, and one in Northern Ireland - for comparison there are 85 marked in the USA.
More of us should maybe put ourselves on the Locator - it doesn't involve putting addresses or anything like that, just town or county - or even country, since the Americans just do it by State, which are often bigger than most countries. I suggest that we should make a point of flagging up a thread for any folk festivals we are planning to go to. |
Subject: RE: BS: How many UK catters From: Manitas Date: 08 Feb 01 - 01:43 PM Me too! I love being ASKED to reply like that, it's normally frowned upon. I'm in East London. Bill, my real name is *Paul* and I'm usually called the Shark or Sharky by Micca and others. Ella, I'm usually at Chippenham. For years I aided Tom Gilmour in the Rose & Crown sessions and can often be found in the Irish sessions in the Old Road Tavern (formerly in the Borough). I'll be there with East Saxon Sword this year. |

Subject: RE: BS: How many UK catters From: bill\sables Date: 08 Feb 01 - 05:10 PM So far with those who have posted and those who I know are in the UK the total is 110 UK catters, nine are in Wales and six in Scotland. If Kevin McGrath is right we are beating the Americans by 25. It is, as he says, a good idea to put your name in the rescources locator, all that is required is your name and county don't put your town for security reasons. For those who are new click on the Quick Links in the top right corner of the main page and find Mudcat Recources There you will find an email list, a photo gallery, a profile page and the locator and just add your name, county and UK |

Subject: RE: BS: How many UK catters From: bill\sables Date: 08 Feb 01 - 06:52 PM If you want to be recognised at festivals and folk clubs might I suggest you order a mudcat badge from Badger They are about 2" round with "The Mudact Cafe" round the top, The mudcat logo (fish in banjo) in the middle and your name on the bottom. They can be ordered directly from him at john@rincewynds.freeserve.co.uk and they are very cheep. Or you could always get an official MudcatTee Shirt from me. you can see one worn by Max in the Get your TeeShirt advert in the quick links. I get them sent over by Dick Greenhaus. Bill |

Subject: RE: BS: How many UK catters From: bill\sables Date: 09 Feb 01 - 06:09 AM I'll have a look at where we are all from and try to find a centeral location for the majority. So far there seems to be more catters in Yorkshire and Dorset than anywhere else, but as always some people would have to travel further than others. Then it would have to be a weekend when there are not too many festivals on, and enough accomodation is available in the area including camping and guest house. Noreen came up with a good idea of renting a youth hostel out of season. It would, in fact, be a mini festival without booking guests. Llanfair had the right idea last October in Wales, a little vilage with accomodation and food, singaround in the local pub on the Friday night, Concert in the vilage hall Saturday afternoon, ceilidh on Saturday night followed by late pub session and lunchtime session on Sunday. It was a great success. When I find where people are I will start a new thread and be open to suggestions and ideas, Cheers Bill |

Subject: RE: BS: How many UK catters From: bill\sables Date: 09 Feb 01 - 07:52 AM Another way to spot a catter is the tired look in their eyes after spending half the night listning to Paltalk or reading threads after they have come home from a session. Bill |

Subject: RE: BS: How many UK catters From: KingBrilliant Date: 09 Feb 01 - 08:19 AM Noreen's youth-hostel idea sounds like an ideal solution. We'll definitely come, assuming no festival conflicts. Do we have to pretend to be young? Kris Mark & Hammerite |

Subject: RE: BS: How many UK catters From: Linda Kelly Date: 09 Feb 01 - 09:09 AM Well if you wanted to meet at a festival may I suggest Warwick which is central to everyone -is held in July so plenty of time to prepare and hopefully get good weather -is a great festival anyway with good facilities and if we all get fed up with each other we can piss off down the pub!!! |
