I had hoped to come aross the pond in January but alas, not this year. I will definitely be in England again this coming August, for as long as I can, maybe even doing my long-awaited Ridgeway walk... |

Subject: RE: Feb Mudcat gathering Yorkshire From: Mrs.Duck Date: 20 Jan 04 - 01:36 PM Looks like we can only make it if small people can come. If we could fit our caravan round the back they could go to bed early! We really want to be there but at present couldn't guarentee anyone to take care of them what with poorly legs and work shifts. What do you reckon? |
Subject: RE: Feb Mudcat gathering Yorkshire From: magician Date: 21 Jan 04 - 04:31 AM The offer of our caravan is already open to you. Small people will be fine. |

Just to confirm, Rock Chick and I are definates now. Could someone pm me with the name of that B&B that was given to me in the Chatroom a couple of weeks ago and I have now lost? Think it was in a near by pub? Also willing to lend a hand behind the Bar for a while to give breaks and let others join in the music etc. |

Subject: RE: Feb Mudcat gathering Yorkshire From: Nick Date: 23 Jan 04 - 10:22 AM Excuse a few naive questions but - 1)What is involved in a mudcat gathering? 2)Is it open to anyone? Do a lot of people tend to come? Are there sessions or performances or what? 3)Is it a 'closed' thing with everyone knowing everyone else or are new people made welcome and able to get involved? 4) For some time the landlord of our local pub where we play has been thinking of organising a music weekend sometime in the summer. Is it possible to start up a Mudcat gathering or is that treading on people's toes as we are in North Yorkshire too? Thanks |
Subject: RE: Feb Mudcat gathering Yorkshire From: Mrs.Duck Date: 23 Jan 04 - 11:28 AM Nick, a mudcat gathering is limited only by the space available to accomodate everyone. You wouldn't be stepping on anyones toes by organising a weekend, the more the merrier and the gatherings don't always attract the same crowds as festivals. They are a way to get to know people so noone should feel that they will be left out. A lot of us do know eachother now but many met for the first time at a mudcat gathering. As to the format, that depends on the venue. There are usually music and singing sessions, lots of drinking and if there is room we have had ceilidhs - we even had some belly dancing at the first Yorkshire gathering! Where in N.Yorks are you? Let us know what you are planning so we can keep a space in the diaries. |
Subject: RE: Feb Mudcat gathering Yorkshire From: Nick Date: 23 Jan 04 - 02:47 PM I'll send you a PM if that's ok. Not to be coy but until it's definite that the pub can do it - and that depends on what is involved and expected - I'd hate to cause any embarrassment on any fronts. I'll send you a PM and if it's ok to talk on the phone I'll give you a number as it's easier than typing! |
Subject: RE: Feb Mudcat gathering Yorkshire From: magician Date: 23 Jan 04 - 04:25 PM Update As Requested:- I had a double bypass 7 weeks ago. On Tuesday I saw the Consulant Surgeon who said that he dosen't want to see me again professionally. I opend the Pub last Friday and did three hours on the bar, on thursday I did the 6 till 8 evening shift and tonight the 5 till 7 shift. I've sent Clare to bed because she seems to be coming down with the 'flue that I am almost recovered from so am in charge tonight myself. I went out for a couple of hours by myself last night to the Abbey for a drink with Brian the landlord there. As long as I don't overdo things (which I have a tendancy to do) I am managing quite well. I get tired quite easily so am having to take things gently (no sniggering Tig). I will reply to all who have PMed or E-mailed over the weekend with confirmations. Looking forward to seeing you all at Valentines, Daffydd |

Subject: RE: Feb Mudcat gathering Yorkshire From: Folkiedave Date: 26 Jan 04 - 03:11 PM I always wondered why there were sometimes messages without anything in them. Having just pressed the wrong button I now know how it is done. Anyway the other love of my life..........Sheffield United F.C have been drawn at home in the F.A.Cup - good news - and will play Sunday - even better news. I'll shall therfore be at the gathering with the opportunity to make wise investments in carefully preserved pre-owned books relating to folk and folklore. I have just purchased a selection of material on Yorkshire so that will be the particular focus this weekend. Regards, Dave www.collectorsfolk.co.uk |

Subject: RE: Feb Mudcat gathering Yorkshire From: Bobjack Date: 28 Jan 04 - 09:55 AM I was in Guisborough last wednesday afternoon, so I thought I would track down The Globe and have a quick pint or six, but it was shut. Bugger! Mind you, I did have a nosy through the window and saw a huge karaoke machine in one corner of the smoke room so we should be sorted. |
Subject: RE: Feb Mudcat gathering Yorkshire From: Tig Date: 28 Jan 04 - 01:42 PM I assure you that the large carrotlowkey is only used for the music quiz held in there on a Sunday night!!!!! The questions asked are so obscure they drive me to drink. Fret not attendees - you will NOT be made to use it! Sad that you can't make it after all Khatt |

If you are not rescued soon you will have to eat your socks as well. Save the lame excuses! Get a taxi! We do understand we will help! All you have to do is send money for beer a request for your song or tune and we will sing and or play it and drink the beer for you. It's not a problem. Let's us try and cheer you up! However bad you are feeling now about not being able to go. It's not a patch on how you will be feeling when we all tell you what a great weekend we all had. Cancel what ever it is and get there Feb the 14th is the date for a mini Mudcat gathering at the Watering Hole, in Guisborough. All are welcome, indoor camping spaces will be made available.
