Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Cool Beans Date: 19 Apr 04 - 02:08 PM We're just a duo. Or I may show up as an uno. I just asked about groups on behalf of any that might be out there. |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Clinton Hammond Date: 19 Apr 04 - 02:14 PM We had 3 goofy young guys clustered around one guitar and one mic a few weeks back... Forgetting lyrics, cracking each other up, and just generally having WAY too much fun... I had ta give 'em first place! LOL "How can they afford to do it?" Afford to? It's 170 bucks every Monday... belive me, if it was scraping the profit margin, it'd be GONE in a flash! The Kildare has entertainment (paid for) every Thursday to Monday... And now that summer has landed, their business is only gonna get busier! It's the mark of a well run pub :-) |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: ddw Date: 19 Apr 04 - 05:10 PM Mick, As it stands, I'll probably be able to make it next Monday night (Apr. 26) as well. I'm disappointed you can't make it this week, but I realize it was pretty short notice. I was out of town for a couple of weeks and had way too much landscaping and not enough music. I'm looking forward to tonight. Maryanne, I'll look forward to seeing you again And Cool Beans, hope to meet you as well. Sounds like it could be a good night, but we have to watch it or that crafty Clinton will let everybody else do the work while he gets paid... You think we should plan to roll him in the parking lot....? cheers, david |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Clinton Hammond Date: 19 Apr 04 - 05:30 PM Bring friends and a lunch, Dave! :-) Unless yer planning to "roll me one" in the parking lot! LOL |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Big Mick Date: 19 Apr 04 - 11:31 PM Clinton .... might be a nice little workout .... LOL. See you folks next Monday. Clinton, email me some directions. Mick |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Clinton Hammond Date: 20 Apr 04 - 03:22 AM You need to PM me yer email addy then mate... But, be warned, it's easy peasy, nice-and-sleezy, from the tunnel... :-) P.S. Dave won again.... The Kildare House is gonna buy this guy a new 12-string, if no one else shows up! LOL!!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Devilmaster Date: 22 Apr 04 - 11:38 PM I'll be there Monday.... (usually there anyways...) Hope to see you all again.. Steve |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Devilmaster Date: 25 Apr 04 - 05:27 PM Any chance to get some final yes/no answers? I'm in. Thanx Steve |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Clinton Hammond Date: 25 Apr 04 - 06:06 PM Well, then we'll both be there for sure eh dude! :-) |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: ddw Date: 25 Apr 04 - 07:33 PM I'll be there, too. See ya.... david |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Big Mick Date: 25 Apr 04 - 10:01 PM I will be there. What time does it start? I have to drive about 3 hours. Mick |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Clinton Hammond Date: 26 Apr 04 - 03:04 AM Figure about a 9:30 or 10 start... I usually do about a 'set' to kick things off... but if a few players show early, then things'll start early... No matter whn ya get there BM, we'll get ya on! :-) |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: maire-aine Date: 26 Apr 04 - 09:18 AM I'll be there, too. |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Cool Beans Date: 26 Apr 04 - 12:11 PM It looks like I'm in, too, probably as one of those earlier arrivals, unless bad things happen at work. |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Clinton Hammond Date: 26 Apr 04 - 02:03 PM So me, Steve, Mick, David, Maire-Aine, and Marty... Not a half bad off the cuff gathering eh! Do yer hair folks, I'll be bringing my digi-cam, and posting pics! :-) |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: ddw Date: 27 Apr 04 - 01:25 AM Geez, Clinton — if I'd known that I would have worked on my a lot more.... Great night. Really enjoyed hearing some M'catters I'd never heard before and meeting Cool Beans for the first time. Nice to see Maryanne and Mick, too. Both very talented.... Sorry I had to pull out early..... cheers, david |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Big Mick Date: 27 Apr 04 - 07:09 AM And so another of Lane's Looney Rambles comes to an end. These things started with an 11 roundtrip drive for a 3 hour visit to Rick some years ago. They were taken to the next level with the advent of the "drive 13 hours each way" through the dead of the night to get to the FSGW Getaway and then operate on 6 hours sleep through the weekend. Last night I left home shortly after 7:00 PM and drove 3 hours to Windsor to attend the singalong with Clinton, maire-ann, Devilmaster, Cool Beans, and ddw. Heard some mighty singing and playing at the Kildare House, sat and had the odd jar with Clinton, Devilmaster and some of the regulars, left shortly after 2:00 AM and drove home (which took 3 1/2 hours) and got home in time to get my daughter off to school. If you can, get to one of Clinton's performances or his open mike. In either case, you will be glad you did. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, with this wonderful bunch. Mick |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Cool Beans Date: 27 Apr 04 - 08:52 AM A good time had by all. Enjoyed meeting and hearing everyone, and what a collection of music: traditional, original, ballads, funny songs and no duplicates. Can't believe Big Mick can string two coherent sentences together this morning after driving all night. 'Catters rule. |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: maire-aine Date: 27 Apr 04 - 09:29 AM I had a great time. Mick, I'm glad to see you made it home safely. Wish I could have stayed longer. Can't wait to see the pictures. Maryanne |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Devilmaster Date: 27 Apr 04 - 11:42 AM Good to see everyone again, and to meet Marty for the first time.... I had a great night, listened to great music. I'm glad everyone made it home alright, at least Mick didn't have to drive home through a snowstorm this time.... :D Hope to see everyone again soon.... Steve |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: maire-aine Date: 27 Apr 04 - 07:01 PM I don't want to whine, but I will anyway. Did anybody else think that the card-players were beyond rude? I expect people will carry on conversations while I sing. It's a bar, afterall. But I thought YELLING was too much. I really wanted to just stop in the middle of the song, and smack 'em. There, I feel better. M |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Cool Beans Date: 27 Apr 04 - 07:25 PM I'm with you, Maryanne. Maybe next time we grab up those seats early and block 'em out. I was in a band that once played a bar on Cape Cod where people were throwing bottles against a wall, not unlike that scene in "The Blues Brothers." But those guys last night were noisier. |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: ddw Date: 27 Apr 04 - 08:03 PM I couldn't agree more, but believe it or not they were well-behaved last night, compared with how they've been other nights. They've been a pain in the ass for as long as I've been going there and it never seems to occur to them — particularly the jerk with the muscle shirt and shaved head, who makes about 80 percent of the noise — that it might be better if they played in another room. Clinton throws what barbs he can, but they seem impervious to all of them and, short of asking the management to intervene, I don't know what can be done. Maybe Marty's suggestion is best — get there early and take all the seats.... cheers, david |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: maire-aine Date: 27 Apr 04 - 09:03 PM Oh. I didn't know that. The only other time I was there, the big guy wasn't. It was just the two young guys, and the were very nice when they were by themselves. Hmmm. |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Clinton Hammond Date: 27 Apr 04 - 09:41 PM It's "Vin" who is the problem, and the other two (who stayed after he left) are chums of mine, who I will be having a talk with... To tell 'em that if they do bring him out, to please take him to a different room... preferably in a different bar... in a different time zone.... Pics should be coming soon... later tonight, or more likely tomorrow... Thanks for ALL who came out! It was a blast and a half! |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: YorkshireYankee Date: 27 Apr 04 - 10:31 PM So... don't keep us in suspense... did our Catters waltz off with 1st & 2nd place? (And if so, which ones?) Cheers, YY |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Devilmaster Date: 28 Apr 04 - 12:16 AM The two prizes, as a reminder, were a fifty dollar gift certificate to Riverside Music in Windsor, and a 20 dollar gift certificate to the Kildare House. Although all were good, the two winners were, a local guy who is a good picker and who really sounds like Chris Deburgh. (yes the lady in red singer), and the other winner was Mudcat's own Big Mick Lane. Steve |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Clinton Hammond Date: 28 Apr 04 - 01:48 PM Some Of The Pics Are Up In The Open Mic Gallery |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: YorkshireYankee Date: 28 Apr 04 - 09:35 PM Great pics! (Just wish I knew who was who...) Steve, thanks for the info -- and Congrats to Mick! Cheers, YY |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Devilmaster Date: 28 Apr 04 - 09:44 PM YY - Check out this thread Its a new thread I started with the photos labelled. Steve |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Clinton Hammond Date: 10 May 04 - 02:49 PM FYI.. The Big guy, and his little toadie, who were making all the noise have been told that if they are gonna come out, they are to sit in another room... preferable in another pub... They shant be an issue any more! Also as DDW was the only one to come out last week, he won again... and in discussion with the owners, the more often you win, the more often your name goes into the ballet-box for the 500 bucks at the end of they year... so come on out folks... make David at least WORK for his new 12 string! LOL :-) |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Big Mick Date: 11 May 04 - 06:09 PM Dammit all, I would like to have a new set of drones for my pipes, or mebbe a new Les Paul to play blues on. Gonna have to come over and see if I can't give David a run for his money.... ;-) Mick |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: ddw Date: 11 May 04 - 06:19 PM Bring it on, MickMan! Hell, I don't mind losing if I get to listen to those pipes you've got.... cheers, david |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Cool Beans Date: 12 May 04 - 11:48 AM One of these days, when I dig out from under, I might put in a return appearance meself. Sounds like I'll actually be able to hear all of you this time, which would be a treat. Marty |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Clinton Hammond Date: 12 May 04 - 02:48 PM "actually be able to hear all of you" Well, it is first and foremost a pub, so most people are there to talk, drink, play cards, throw darts... And when we're lucky, some even come for the music... Those are the BEST nights! |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: ddw Date: 12 May 04 - 06:03 PM Cool B — actually this week wasn't too bad. There were two tables of card players in the room, but for the most part they were attentive (or at least quiet). And once I got thru there were some good musicians there, too. Love to see you back. Anybody who can give me the first line of a Pink Anderson tune is all right with me..... cheers, david |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Clinton Hammond Date: 07 Jun 04 - 11:49 AM Alright... now I've left you folks alone with this for too long... Just look at what you've done by NOT coming out... Last week DDW showed up with the brand new (for him) 12 String he got with Gift certificates won at MY Open Mic! And to thing YOU coulda had a piece of that action... It is a sweet piece of axe... and I tend to not like 12 strings much... So come on out folks! Casue we're having fun without ya's... but it'd be better if you were there too! :-) |

Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Clinton Hammond Date: 10 Jun 04 - 02:57 PM It's not nice to hijack someone elses thread to advertise.... That aside... I gig most Fridays... so it may be an awful long time befor I darken yer door with my shadow... but hope yer open mic goes well, and I'll try to make it when/if I can... :-) |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Clinton Hammond Date: 24 Oct 04 - 02:51 PM Well, thanks folks! Those of you who cam e out at least... Unfortunately, the Kildare House has pulled the plug on the Open Mic, due to lack of audience interest coupled with a loss of sponsorship.... (The Kildare House has also temporarily cancelled it's Thursday and Sunday entertainment... Tough times all round eh) So, well, all good things eh... To everyone who came out at any time, ta very much! With any luck when things pick up around the K House again, we'll take another stab at the open mic thing See ya's down the road :-) |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: YorkshireYankee Date: 25 Oct 04 - 11:36 AM Very sorry to hear it. I was really looking forward to attending (and singing!) when I came "home" for the holidays. And maybe meeting some Michigan/Ontario Mudcatters to boot. Ah, well... If they have anything going in late Dec/early Jan, please do let me know! |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Clinton Hammond Date: 25 Oct 04 - 11:44 AM Well mate... if ya let me know when you'll be around, I'll try to swing a gig night in the place, and you can get up and do a few! :-) |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Big Mick Date: 25 Oct 04 - 02:12 PM This really disappoints me. I made over once, and was going to stop the Monday after Rick's Memorial, but the friggin' heart attack got in the way. Clinton ran a great night, and I was very much looking forward to stopping in again. Clinton, keep me posted if this starts again, I want to get over and do a little more music. All the best, Mick |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Clinton Hammond Date: 25 Oct 04 - 02:51 PM I will indeed mate! :-) |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: YorkshireYankee Date: 25 Oct 04 - 05:21 PM if ya let me know when you'll be around, I'll try to swing a gig night in the place, and you can get up and do a few! Very kind of you Clinton. Sounds good – I'll stay in touch. If I'm lucky, maybe Big Mick & a few other Mudcatters will be able to get there as well (fingers crossed for luck...) |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: GUEST Date: 26 Oct 04 - 04:27 PM Sorry to hear that, Clinton. I don't think I've been to any open mics all summer-- hardly even picked up the guitar it seems. YY and all, check in to CH's website for info on his gigs. He's pretty good about keeping it up to date. Just let us know if you're going to be in the area, and we can find a place to get together. Maryanne |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: YorkshireYankee Date: 27 Oct 04 - 11:08 AM Thanks Maryanne – will do. |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Grab Date: 27 Oct 04 - 03:30 PM I've just reached the end of my stint in Detroit (2.5 weeks). Took in some music with DDW (thanks for everything and then some, David!) but didn't make Kildare House - sorry Clinton. I wanted to come over this last Monday and see people, but travelling that far on a school night (especially given the workload I've had, and having to be in at 8am) kind of ruled it out. Ho hum. Real shame that entertainment there is winding down - last time I was there (a couple of years back now :-) Clinton did a seriously good gig. Don't know when I'll next be over (the reason for coming across was for project handover and closedown, so I won't be back to Ford soon), but rest assured I'll give you a shout when I next get over that way. Graham. PS. Congratulations, Clinton - hope life treats you both well! |
Subject: RE: Windsor/Detroit Area Open Mic From: Clinton Hammond Date: 27 Oct 04 - 03:56 PM "Real shame that entertainment there is winding down" Not winding down mate... just part of the ebb and flow... :-) See ya down the road eh! |
