AUGUST 5th!!! HAPPY Income tax day to the WORLD!!! 1861 -- The first income tax was levied by the Revenue Act on all income over $800. This day is generally celibrated (as is April 11th or is it the 14th) by an increase in suisides and child abuse.

Yes today is the day (August 10, 1821) Misery entered the Union as the 24th state. Named after the native American people that originally inhabited the land, (referred to as those miserable Indians) Misery was acquired by the U.S. as part of the 1803 Louisiana Purchase. At that time, the territory's 10,000 occupants were mainly French settlers. After the War of 1812, American settlers poured into the region, changing the "Mac Gros" into the "Big Mac" in neighborhood MacDonalds, but few other changes... This was called the Misery Compromise, and had something to do with slavery.
