Ah ha. I've just caught up with the other thread!

Well written JB, although I did cringe at the bit about the patch :-)

Sing-around after? Don't care, I'll be too busy getting pissed and pulling a few fens women. In fact, let's make it a sin-around (or 'gang-bang' as they used to call it).

OK folks, enough already! Lets get this one back on track. Sorry for dragging it away.

George was absolutely.....George, and that means 'Fan-dabby-dozie' (Greek for Excellent, according to my 'Krankies Thesaurus' LOL!). Can't say more than that - but I will, he just gives out such warmth and his great personality, huge voice, inspiring lyrics and eerily-Greek-sounding guitar (Crete in July for a fortnight, woo-hoo, bring it on!!) are the perfect reviver for a soul deflated by the grind of a week's bean-counting.

Paul and Will were a treat. YOUNG MEN (CR please note) enjoying performing traditional songs and tunes, and doing it in style. Just one request - please, please, please Paul, don't neglect that Sobell and your fabulous guitar-playing talent. Get the poor little cow out more often and PLAY HER for F**k's sake! (Oops, sorry for the swearing, Les!)

Wild Wolds Women are improving in leaps and bounds (please don't take that as a back-handed compliment - I genuinely mean it!) They've worked hard on their arrangements and it really does show. Great choice of songs, excellent playing ensemble, and fine vocal harmonies (did I hear the ghosts of The Andrews Sisters in there? Now that IS a compliment!!). Keep at it, WWW, who knows where you could go?

And the sound was even superber than usual - good work Terry and Gwenda, absolutely faultless. They proved the old adage amongst performers that the sign of great PA is when you don't even notice it's there. Excellent.

All IMHO, of course!

Very well put there Strollin'

May I say that your set was top notch and how you managed to sing "For Those Who New Me", I just don't know. Scary stuff :-)

I will take the comment about us improving as a being a compliment,Strollin', as you said you intended! We have worked on our approach to sets at Faldingworth as it was a trial and error thing the first couple of times to see what worked, there.
Thanks for the compliment about our songs. It was one of our first sets at Faldingworth using all our own songs. We tend to throw in a few covers but we decided against it last night, for a change. I am a little concerned about the Andrews Sisters because I don't know who they are, (sorry to be ignorant, I bet all you knowledgeable types are groaning in horror...I will look them up!) and I am not sure whether we want to sound like them, or not! We do work on harmonies and try to make them pretty tight and interesting arrangements rather than just three-note backing. It is quite a challenge for WWW to do a 25 min set as we normally do longer sets. In some ways I am envious of those who are solo acts with just a guitar to cope with in practical terms. It must make it less stressful! With all the instruments it is difficult to get things to appear unrushed and flow smoothly from one song to another. Our general feeling is that in a set of 25 mins, we try to fit in quite a few songs and limit the chat between, because, that seems to make it worthwhile us, (especially me!) lugging so much gear about. We are very grateful to T & G for their long-suffering patience and good nature about doing the sound for us as it is not an easy job and they make it look as though it is. We really enjoyed the night and thought it was very varied. Thanks to all who played, supported/helped etc.

Beat me to it Villan! TAS rank with the Ink Spots as major influences in my early musical career. My old mum and dad loved 'em and I think it passed on through their genes to me. Very fond memories indeed of my mum dancing round the kitchen singing 'Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy' with me in her arms - must have only be two or three. And The Ink Spots' 'I Could Make You Care' still brings me out in goosebumps. Aaaaahhhh, there's lovely!

In fact I might learn 'I Could Make You Care', and do it next time I'm booked for Faldingworth. Make a nice bit of light relief from all the finger-in-ear, sing-through-your-nose, aging-hippie folkie stuff. :-) :-)

Good evening last at Faldingworth Les. A little bird tells me that you have traced one of the Polish pilots who still lives in Lincoln. His name doesn't happen to be Stan Miller does it?

Just asking about Stan Miller as he was a Polish Veteran. He worked with Terry at Clayton DeWandre in Lincoln. Might have died by now though; he would be in his 80s. See ya.Wonderful song by Mark and John.

Just landed back home. Thanks, folks for a great evening. Les, great club, you know how to pull the punters (50+, I believe), and Dave's Lincolnshire sausage was great. I wanted a second go, but Vanessa stopped me in case I got the habit. Terry and Gwenda's sound management was brill, and Sooz as MC managed the whole evening with exemplary accuracy (5 mins off, I know, but so many clubs overrun these days!) and great panache. As for the turns, I'll reiterate: We had the fire of "Cigarettes" (Paul and Will), great harmonies from Wild Wolds Women, and a great malt "Whiskey" in John's voice. Plus the most comfortable club seating I know!

My most memorable moment was a personal one, though, as I don't think anyone else noticed: In the last verse of the encore ("Sound the horn"), turning towards where Vanessa was seating as I sang the line "...my girlfriend there will meet me...", only to see the poor lass slumped and sleeping peacefully (24 hours since her return from OZ and jetlagged to lethargy).

And now I'll get it in the neck for letting on...

Thanks Faldingworth!

Eeeeek! Just back from a weekend away and read the thread...I am still not too sure whether I am flattered re the Andrew's Sisters, lol! So much for us trying to be female musicians singing music relevant to today, haha! Mind you, their harmonies were pretty good, I have to admit!
That song you mentioned, GS, was, I think, 'Wherever' which I wrote about my home town. It has some wonderful memories for me. Each verse is about a different stage of my life that I remember with fondness. A happy childhood, well, a happy life, I guess. I tend to feel a bit embarrassed when we play that as it seems self-indulgent, singing about your own memories, so personally. That night, it was definitely not our best performance of it, mello cello blamed the wine she had been drinking but I think we almost got away with some very 'interesting' timing on it. The only recording is an old one I did when I first wrote it but we are currently working on our 2nd WWW cd and hope to have it finished this summer, with that song included, I think.
I am now going to look up 'The Ink Spots', Strolling'and try to find the song you mentioned.
Maybe if you sing that song on a night when WWW are there, you may hear a few harmonies in the choruses!

It's a slow, raight soppy old thing from the WW11 days, opens:-

I could make you care, if only you'd let me,
I could make you care, you'd never forget me..

One of my old dad's favourite songs, and I'm emotional just thinking about him. I do care, and I'll never forget.
