Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: GUEST,John from Elsie`s Band Date: 02 Feb 09 - 06:07 AM Hi Sue, First, here`s best wishes for Trevor`s continued recovery. Second, there`s 3 inches of snow here and its still falling so I can`t see me getting up there tonight. All the Best, John |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Penny S. Date: 02 Feb 09 - 09:13 AM I'm told Wrotham Hill has been closed. 3 ins or so at Bluewater, and still falling - I'm just going to clear the sloping drive again. Major roads seem do-able, but that lane! If it's been blowing at all up there, it will be deeper, and we would only need to come on someone else who had got stuck, and we'd need stuff to see off hypothermia. Shame. Years back, I met a guy (had spent his day using his Land Rover to haul cars up the above mentioned hill) who told me how his dad had been out in the snow, on the farm, out back of Strood, and lost fingers to frostbite. Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Penny S. Date: 02 Feb 09 - 09:16 AM And those of you across the pond, I know this is not a lot, but you don't know that lane, and the house spacing up it. Penny |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Girl Friday Date: 02 Feb 09 - 10:31 AM Snow eight inches and still falling in Orpington, Fran rang to cancel at 9.30. Then Les rang, Croydon is awful and IslaSt Clare is due there tonight... think not somehow... Les told Andy and Andy rang me... he's out tobogganing with his kids today.... we've rearranged for June 29th. I do remember snow then, during tennis fortnight. I was working in Wimbledon and was shocked when I looked out of the window. Let's hope it clears for next week eh! |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Penny S. Date: 02 Feb 09 - 01:32 PM News says 11 inches on the Downs. Off to the drive again. Penny |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Girl Friday Date: 03 Feb 09 - 09:06 AM In January 1987, 4 months before I moved here, the snow in this road was 3 feet ! In 1991 I had stalagtites of ice descending from the gutter right down the windows. There are just baby ones today |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Penny S. Date: 04 Feb 09 - 03:55 AM I remember that icicle time. My neighbouring house was having an extension built and there were monsters on the scaffolding. My friend climbed up and got them, and we made a snow hedgehog on the lawn. I have a photo somewhere. Penny |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Girl Friday Date: 04 Feb 09 - 09:12 AM If you find the photo Penny, I would love to see it. |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Penny S. Date: 05 Feb 09 - 05:51 AM It's on paper! Take ages to find I suspect, even more if it's actually a slide! But I will look. Penny |

Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Girl Friday Date: 17 Feb 09 - 05:59 PM The Fox And Hounds is a venue without benefit of TV, Juke Box, or games machine. It does have a pool table, but users are polite enough not to play on a folk night. It has real ale, cider to die for from the pump, excellent grub, friendly staff, log fire, perfect venue to escape to. |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Penny S. Date: 18 Feb 09 - 05:24 AM It also does tea for drivers. Penny |

Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Girl Friday Date: 23 Feb 09 - 06:43 AM Butt Of Lewis are a local band led by a chap from Orpington called John Edwards. The original line-up started out playing at Orpington Friday Folk in the nineties. They now have a new line-up and different material, lot of country and old-timey stuff as well as Irish, and can be found at Croydon Folk and Blues Club, Ruskin House, on Sundays. |

Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Girl Friday Date: 01 Mar 09 - 07:26 PM Not sure whether that should say unparalleled. Unstable might be more apt- those drums were really shaking. Trev has added stabilisers since that video was made. Thanks Raffles... we owe you one mate. |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: GUEST,pete Date: 02 Mar 09 - 05:38 PM hope it went well tonight granchild josephine hit by a car at 30 mph and went to hospital but is back home with only minor injuries-thank God |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Girl Friday Date: 03 Mar 09 - 05:20 PM Pete- so sorry to hear this - thank God she is ok.. I've had "experiences " with cars and know what you're saying.". thank God indeed! Somehow I thought that you'd said you'd be missing, as did Steve. Trouble was - so was everyone else. Ty came along at hal;f-time to play with the duo, and did a couple of songs. The audience was sparce and comprised friends, relatives and band followers. It seems they'd all come out for a free night's entertainment. It was like getting blood out of stones! |

Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Penny S. Date: 04 Mar 09 - 04:15 PM Sorry I missed it. Since I had the survey on my then intended domicile, I have not been sleeping well. And I was teaching Tuesday, so a late night seemed a bad idea, especially as it seemed likely that I would drop off somewhere along the lane. Sorry to hear about Josephine's accident, Pete. Doesn't it rub in what the ads say about speed, though. I'm so glad she's OK. Penny |
