Subject: RE: PTH July Installment From: GUEST,Skipjack K8 Date: 22 Jul 03 - 11:14 AM My, my, that husband of mine is diverse. Just seen a pair of spectacles to wear on the velocipede, advertised at his website, www.oakley.com descibed as a snip at £139. It's the unobtainium ear socks and the plutonite lenses that make them so reassuringly expensive. |
Subject: RE: PTH July Installment From: Raggytash Date: 22 Jul 03 - 11:19 AM MICHAEL !!!!! You must go to Nora Murphys Bar at Brandon, it has to be the most wonderfully located Bar in the WORLD. Go over the Connor Pass, hang a left at the bottom through Cloghane follow the road towards Brandon Point and you come to Brandon, a little road goes off to the right and takes you down to a small quay and the Bar. It is run by Mary & Patrick Murphy (Patrick is the son of the late Nora) It is a very simple bar, fire place at one end of a single room with a uneven floor and bar at the other. Mary is the most generous lovely woman you could wish to meet, she is an absolute Angel. If you go tell them you know us or mention "The Mad Buggers" I am sure you will be treated as long lost cousins. Then come back and tell me if you know of a bar in a better spot, 3000ft mountains to 2 sides, a glorious spread of sandy estuary, the Bay of Tralee in the front of you with the Magherees in the distance and the wild Atlantic to finish of the picture. Paradise on Earth |

Subject: RE: PTH July Installment From: GUEST,ossonflags Date: 23 Jul 03 - 03:21 AM Dead on Raggy!!!! It is indeed a splendid hostelry.Have paid it many a visit in the twenty seven years or so I have been going to that magic peninsula. Was there April of this year. |
Subject: RE: PTH July Installment From: The DeanMeister Date: 23 Jul 03 - 06:21 AM For anybody who's interested, Sunday 3rd of August will be the 60th First Sunday of the Month Session/Singaround at the Sun Inn in Beverley. I started this session five years ago at Nellies following the Festival, with a view to continuing the Festival feel once a month throughout the year. It is, I believe, the best attended afternoon of song, music, and beer for many miles around, and has been visited by people from all over the UK. It has been successful in it's aim, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it, indeed I'm very proud of it. I have decided that after the next one, I am retiring as m/c, to hand the mantle over to somebody else to keep it live for the next five years. I have suggested ossonflags, and he would be proud to, though we will discuss this with everybody who attends the next session. I would be extremely happy and chuffed if my last afternoon as the gaffer could be attended by as many of you as possible to make it a memorable occasion. I have met many fine singers and musicians in the past at this session, indeed made many long lasting friends. I hope to see you there. Perhaps the McPhat Boy himself may fancy an appearance? The session, as always, will commence at 2pm and run till about 6/7pm. Keep the Music playing, my friends. Pete. |
Subject: RE: PTH July Installment From: Les from Hull Date: 23 Jul 03 - 09:35 AM I think that everyone owes a big debt of gratitude to Mister De Mister and to his session which has consistantly drawn together many different styles of music and even got singers and tune players to sit in the same room and enjoy each others' company and music (gasp!). It's true that it's an incredibly well-attended session, drawing quality singers and players from around the country (and beyond), and encouraging those who are new to singing or playing. We'll have a word with the large Scotsman this weekend and see if he's free (or at least reasonably inexpensive). Here's to the next five years. I trust you'll still be attending, Pete. |
Subject: RE: PTH July Installment From: The DeanMeister Date: 23 Jul 03 - 11:22 AM I will indeed be still attending, and I sincerely hope that everybody else will too. I would be very sad if that did not occur. But I won't feel obliged to be there every month all afternoon. And thanks for the kind words, Les. I hope the tune meisters as well as the singers continue to keep this a great session for many years to come. And yeah, I would love it if the big boy could attend. |
Subject: RE: PTH July Installment From: sweetfire Date: 23 Jul 03 - 04:28 PM Awww, can't believe your last sess is next weekend....and i'm in god-damn London aswell!! Thankyou for many great afternoons Pete, your session has introduced me to many wonderful people aswell as encouraging me to sing. |
Subject: RE: PTH July Installment From: Noreen Date: 23 Jul 03 - 06:24 PM I shall do my very best to attend... after all it is the end of an era. In years to come people will say "Do you remember when....?" (0: |
Subject: RE: PTH July Installment From: GUEST,ossonflags Date: 24 Jul 03 - 12:36 AM I should like to extend my special thanks to Peter for his commitment and hard work to our Sunday session over the last five years. His boundless enthusiasm, charm and undoubted musical ability will indeed be a hard act to follow. We have broken a few barriers over the years regarding the singers versus musicians scenario. This has become, with everyone's input, what a good musical gathering should be, a proper mixture of song, music, joining in and not least respect for others and encouragement for young people who are just starting out. Peter has asked me to MC the session for the future and I told him I would be proud and flattered to do it. However, I would appreciate your comments, support or otherwise on this, AND LETS KEEP MUSIC LIVE. |
Subject: RE: PTH July Installment From: GUEST,KJ Date: 24 Jul 03 - 08:26 AM Definately Ossonflags for MC, you'd get my vote anytime. |
