Following up Mudcatter Les Sullivan's win in 2005, Moses (aka Christine Connolley) tonight won the 2007 running of this biennial competition with 'Cup of Coffee' a clip of which you can hear here. It was a cracking evening and there were also high class entries from Moira Craig and Malcolm Austen (came 2nd) and Chris Flegg.

Well done Moses!

Sorry Pearl.

In my excitement I forgot to put up a link to the Maidenhead Folk Club who make it all possible.

Thanks Pearl and Tony.

I misread the title as "Moses wins Maidenhead in Folk Song Camp". I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I was sure intrigued.

Thank you all for your kind words.

I had a great evening, there were some excellent songs (as always) and, as always, Maidenhead Folk Club put on a great evening. Thanks to all who turned up, to all who voted and most of all thanks to the hard-working organisers.

I should mention that without Steve, who accompanied me on guitar and who's intro prompted me to remember the tune to this very new song, I think I would have had a very hard time performing. Thanks Steve (The Ref).

Christine

Yay, Christine!, Go girl! Sorry I couldn't be there for you, but we were wondering last night... Well deserved win for someone who is (wrongly) not known for her songwriting skills, because she spins them slowly - but she spins pure silk.

Well done Christine a well deserved win, well written and very well performed with Steve.
Just to fill in the rest of the results: third was Kaye Tilley "Letter from the King" and honourable mention went to Mark Ashworth for "Great Western"
Keep an eye on the Maidenhead Folk Club web site for photos.

I cant wait to hear Christine's song again

It really was a very high class field of 13 songs

I do hope a CD comes available for a wider audience to enjoy the talent that abounded

To add and endorse , moses has penned some truly beautiful songs and I hope that she will be invited to perform at other venues.

She was praised for her sets by 'new' faces to folk following her performance at the Rose and crown lately and they were hoping to hear her next month on Sunday 23rd April when she will be supporting the 'ref'

The gals got style.

Another credit to the Herga club

Hi

It will, of course be the 22nd April when Steve is performing at the Rose and Crown in St Albans. (Was that you Breezy-Guest?)

Thank you all again for your encouragement and kind words.

I've just spoken to Steve and we have agreed to try very soon to get something down on CD. I need to take note of the essence of the song and not let the business of making a living get in the way of actually living and doing the things that I really want to do.

Now if I can just manage to sort out the plans for the new kitchen, finish the financial year-end, get the lawn-mower repaired.......

Christine

X

There is now a picture up on our website of Christine being presented with her winner's certificate by Pearl O'Neill.

Anyone who can get to Herga tonight or Baldock on Wednesday will be able to hear Christine sing "Cup of Coffee" live.
