Hi Folks,

Any skiffle fans within range of Newcastle on Saturday 21 April should head for The Cumberland Arms, Byker, where there will be a skiffle party to celebrate Lonnie Donegan's 76th birthday. (That's actually on the 29th, but this was the nearest available Saturday.)

The session will be in the downstairs bar, so there's no admission charge.   Midnite Special will be hosting it, but feel free to bring along guitars, mandolins, banjos, gob-irons and voices and join in. (Please leave the tea-chests at home though, because the room's not very big.) Kick-off at 8.pm (approx) - come early to get a seat.

Is there anything happening on Tyneside on the Sunday after?

I'm kinda tempted (would bring washboard) but not just for one evening.

Hi Jack,

On Sunday 22nd April, between 12 noon and 2pm there will be dancing by various teams outside the Baltic Art Gallery in Gateshead - that's on the quayside, next to the new Millenium Bridge which connects Gateshead with Newcastle.   I'll be there leaping about with the Hexham Morrismen (and probably fit for nothing else afterwards) but I don't know about any folk-related events on that evening. Will check & let you know asap.
