Does anyone know where I can find these lyrics? The song was recorded by the Weavers and also by the Rooftop Singers.

See thread 42235 for several versions: Ezekiel
This thread also links other threads.

Also see Spirituals Permathread (found by scrolling down in FAQ).

I don't know if any of these were the texts used by the Weavers or the Rooftops. There are many variations.

I hear you. Sorry not to have checked the DT first. I always assume (I kno, I kno) that people have done that, but many folks aren't aware it's there. Myself included, I guess.

Here's another version of Ezekiel Saw The Wheel:

Ezekiel Saw de Wheel

(idea) by Infinite Burn (3.9 mon) (print)    ?   1 C! Thu Feb 01 2001 at 1:28:55

Ezekiel saw de wheel
Way up in de middle o' de air
Ezekiel saw de wheel
Way in de middle o' de air

De big wheel run by faith,
De little wheel run by de grace of god
A wheel wid'in a wheel
Way in de middle o' de air

Better min' my sister,
How you walk on de cross
Way in de middle o' de air
Yo' foot might slip
An' yo' soul be los'
Way in de' middle o' de air

Ezekiel saw de wheel
Way up in de middle o' de air
Ezekiel saw de wheel
Way in de middle o' de air

De big wheel run by faith,
De little wheel run by de grace of god
A wheel wid'in a wheel
Way in de middle o' de air

Ol' Satan wears a club foot shoe
Way in de middle o' de air
If you don' min' he'll slip it on you
Way in de middle o' de air

Ezekiel saw de wheel
Way up in de middle o' de air
Ezekiel saw de wheel
Way in de middle o' de air

De big wheel run by faith,
De little wheel run by de grace of god
A wheel wid'in a wheel
Way in de middle o' de air

I found several other video of the African American spiritual Ezekiel Saw The Wheel on YouTube. I selected that one because its words, tempo, and arrangement was closer to the one that I remember from my childhood and youth.

And may I say again that I vehementally dislike spirituals sung in [supposedly] Black dialect. In my not at all humble opinion, if you want to turn off Black audiences, sing spirituals in those dialects.

For some reason, my last comment reminds me of this fragment of a spiritual:

Chorus:
[Soloist or part of the choir]:
You better mind.
[Rest of choir]:
You better mind.
[Soloist or part of the choir]:
You better mind.
[Rest of choir]:
You better mind.
[All]:
You gotta give an account at the judgement.
You better mind.

{Add floating four line verses such as found in Ezekiel Saw The Wheel". Sing "You better mind" after each line of those verses. End with "You gotta give an account of the judgement. You better mind"]

-snip-

'nuff said.

Some words I remeber:
Ezekial looked out on the middle of the field
He thought he saw an angel with a chariot wheel
He wasn't so particular 'bout the chariot wheel,
He jes' wanna see how that chariot feel
Chorus:
Why don' ya swing down chariot stop and let me ride,
Swing down chariot stop and let me ride.
Rock me Lord, rock me lord, calm and easy.
I wanna see out to the other side.

Does this help?

Robbo.
