Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Not much to go on ? From: Jim Lad Date: 09 Apr 07 - 05:43 PM As usual! I was away off in the wrong direction. THE TOUCH OF THE MASTER'S HAND (music by Randy Koslosky based on poem by Myra Welch) It was battered and scarred and the auctioneer thought it hardly worth his while To waste much time with the old violin but he held it up with a smile He said it may not be much but it's all we've got left, we might as well sell it too Who'll make a bid for this old violin. Just one more and we'll be through Then he said, "One, give me one dollar. Who'll make it two? Only two dollars? Who'll make it three? Three dollars twice, well that's kind of nice. But, who's got a bid for me? Raise up your hand. Don't wait any longer. The auction soon will end Who'll give me four… that's just one dollar more to bid on this old violin" Well the air was hot and the people were still as the sun was setting low From the back of the crowd a gray-haired man came forward and picked up the bow He wiped the dust from the old violin and tightened up the strings Then he played out a melody pure and sweet, as sweet as the angels sing (violin solo) The music ceased and the auctioneer, with a voice that was quiet and low Said, "What is my bid for this old violin?"and he held it up with the bow Then he said, "One, give me one thousand. Who'll make it two? Only two thousand? Who'll make it three? Three thousand twice, well that's kind of nice. But, who's got a bid for me? The people cried out "What made the change? We don't understand" Then the auctioneer stopped and said with a smile "The touch of the master's hand" Many a man with his life out of tune and battered and scarred with sin Is auctioned cheap to the thoughtless crowd, much like the old violin But the Master comes and the foolish crowd never quite understands The worth of a soul and the change that is wrought By the touch of the Master's hand (violin solo) The people cried out "What made the change?" They don't understand The worth of a soul and the change that is wrought By the touch of the Master's hand Sorry. Nice one though? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Not much to go on ? From: Peace Date: 09 Apr 07 - 05:48 PM Ya know, I'd thought that too. THE TOUCH OF THE MASTER'S HAND (Original poem) By Myra Brooks Welsh Twas battered and scarred, and the auctioneer Thought it scarcely worth his while to waste much time on the old violin, but held it up with a smile "What am I bidden, good folks," he cried, "Who'll start the bidding for me?" "A dollar, a dollar"; then two!" "Only two? Two dollars, and who'll make it three? Three dollars, once; threedollars twice; going for three.." But no, from the room, far back, a gray-haired man came forward and picked up the bow; Then, wiping the dust from the old violin, and tightening the loose strings, he played a melody pure and sweet as caroling angel sings. The music ceased, and the auctioneer, with a voice that was quiet and low, said; "What am I bid for the old violin?" And he held it up with the bow. A thousand dollars, and who'll make it two? Two thousand! And who'll make it three? Three thousand, once, three thousand, twice, and going and gone," said he The people cheered, but some of them cried, "We do not quite understand what changed its worth." Swift came the reply: "The touch of a master's hand." And many a man with life out of tune, and battered and scarred with sin, Is auctioned cheap to the thoughtless crowd, much like the old violin, A "mess of pottage," a glass of wine, a game - and he travels on. "He is going" once, and "going twice, He's going and almost gone." But the Master comes, and the foolish crowd never can quite understand the worth of a soul and the change that's wrought by the touch of the master's hand. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Not much to go on ? From: Shaneo Date: 10 Apr 07 - 06:03 AM Thanks Jim and Peace ,great stuff , The first song 'Down By The Old River' does not seem very well written ,,not much to it , but then again you would have to hear it played. The second is much better , there's a message there for all. |
