Hi, Mr. Happy - can you or somebody transcribe and post the lyrics for us?

All I could find was:
what a wonderful fish are soles...
what a beautiful fish are soles...
    no finer fish
    ever seen on a dish
    are soles
    arse holes
And

kids love this one 'cos they can use a word they are not normally allowed to say i.e.

    arse hole = rectum

What a wonderful fish the Sole is.
    What wonderful fish are Sole's.
    Though I'm glad to relate,
    I'm partial to skate,
When served on a plate with rissoles.
What a wonderful fish the Sole is.
Like Mackerel they swim round in shoales.
But the finest of fish, ever served in a dish
    ARE SOLE'S, ARE SOLE'S, ARE SOLE'S

Maybe that's the whole thing, huh? America wants to know.....

Cf.:
Of all the fishes in the seas,
The strangest is the bass.
It climbs into the tops of trees
And slides down on its hands and knees
To frolic in the grass.

That last one sounds a lot like an Ogden Nash poem

Muttley: AFAIK, Nash never did a tease. In general, he kept clear of that kind of naughtiness -- tho he did allude to the region mentioned when he wrote "The best part of a parting guest is the last part out the door".

To improve the grammar, omit "a":

"What wonderful fish are soles...." etc.

Subject: Lyr Add: WHAT A WONDERFUL FISH A SOLE IS
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 19 Apr 10 - 04:51 PM

Transcribed from the sound file at The British Library Archival Sound Recordings:

WHAT A WONDERFUL FISH A SOLE IS
[As sung by Sid Fowler, recorded by Roy Palmer, in 1986, at the Nautical Club, Birmingham.]

What a wonderful fish a sole is!
What a wonderful fish are soles!
I'm partial to plaice when laid on a plate,
Or even made into rissoles.
What a wonderful fish a sole is!
Like salmon, they all swim in shoals.
But the best of all fish, when laid on a dish,
Are soles, are soles, are soles.

[I'm not sure, but I suspect he is omitting the final "s" in "soles." Maybe he is treating "sole" as a noun like "sheep," that can be either singular or plural. Who knows? Maybe he's right. The pun works equally well either way.]

A somewhat different version transcribed from the sound file at CopperDogMusic.com:

WONDERFUL FISH
As sung by Reg Baldwin

What a wonderful fish the sole is!
What wonderful fish are soles!
I must relate I'm partial to skate
When fried or served up as rissoles.
What a wonderful fish the sole is!
Like mackerel it swims in its shoals,
But the sweetest of fish when placed on a dish
Are soles, are soles.

Nonrhotically speaking,

A sol-, a sol-, a soldier I would be,
And pis-, and pis-, and pistols on my knee,
For cu-, for cu-, for curiosity,
To fight for ****, to fight for ****, to fight for country.

My recollection of this as sung by Norval Ripley and his group in Romford, Essex cica 1950:

What a wonderful fish the sole is,
what wonderful fish are soles.
Strange to relate , I am partial to skate,
like mackerel, they all swim in shoals.
But the best of the bunch the sole is,
yes the pick of the bunch are soles.
The best of the bunch, yes the best for your lunch,
are soles .. are soles ..

Of course, the music and pause pattern makes the parody effective but is difficult to show in the written punctuation.

Well Joe F, we used to sing this little ditty, when we were kids.

I want my hole
I want my hole
I want my holidays
To see the cunt
To see the cunt
To see the countryside
Fuck you
Fuck you
For curiosity
I want my hole
I want my hole
I want my holidays.

Kids are so uncouth :)

The one I learned in my time at school was...

"A Sole, A Sole, A Soldier I will be
For Cu, For Cu, For curiosity
And with a Piss, a Piss, a Pistol on my knee
I will die for my Mother C'untry"
