The monthly sea music session will be happening this Saturday at the Press Room in Portsmouth NH from 3:30 to 7:30 PM.

My apo;ogies for posting so late, but the floods had left us powerless for the last few days.

I know that Barry is perfprming at NEFFA and tha t Peter and Joanne are going there as well, but I'd like an idea of who will be coming to Portsmouth so as to decide if we are going to reach a critical mass worthy of the gathering.

See you on Saturday?

-Tom

Jacqui is going to NEFFA. I will try to make it down. No song circle here this month because of a family wedding.

Fun storm, eh Tom? Kendall and Jacqui still have no power.

The turnout does look a little thin. I'm thinking of coming down from Maine but we may not have sufficient crew to bail out the Press Room, let alone sing there. We are also committed to music events Friday and Sunday evenings and could probably use a break.

We've also had an exciting time dealing with the weather and its aftermath.

I'd like to remind folks that we've postponed the China Sea Marine Trading Co. singing party in Maine from Saturday, April 28th, to Saturday, June 30th. However, I was thinking that our reason for avoiding the April 28th date was so as not to conflict with NEFFA. Now I'm confused.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Oh, yes, now I remember: NEFFA was this weekend and the New Hampshire Folk festival was the following weekend.

Tom, maybe you could say something more about the New Hampshire Folk Festival? I know that Gordon Bok is performing Friday evening but what is the rest of the schedule?

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Well, I was planning on being there. NEFFA isn't on my to-do list, but the monthly Sea Sing sure is. Like Off-Broadway, we can have an Off-NEFFA workshop! Maybe we can haul in some of the Friday night Press Room-ers.

In the best interest of good music, let us include ballads and other folk songs in this weekends mix.

It would be nice if everyone could show up before 4:30 lest we call it off too early - Tom

Enjoy yourselves

Sorry we won't be seeing you, Marc. You ad my hopes up for a few minutes.

Mary, as your fence really was mainly decorative, it can wait.

Barbara's bringing her guitar, a rare treat. Lynne Cullen will be joining us. Ihave'nt heard from any other Gloucesterfolk.

And a special treat will be old friend Chris Albrecht who's been in Germany for the past eight years. He's a fine singer who was an early regular at the Friday sessions.

Essentially, this is shaping up to be a great, if unusual session. See you later today - Tom

I think we'll give this one a pass, given the coffeehouse last evening and another benefit concert we're coordinating on Sunday. But we hope to see more of you Friday evening at the Portsmouth Folk Festival.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

The session was well attended and another rafter rattler.

Relative newcomers Mark ryer and Peter Hale did many fine songs. Lynne Cullen, representing Maine provided a fine rendition of Long Lankin, which led to a short run af baby killing/maiming songs. Gloucester was present in the forms of Alexander, Gardi and George. George hasn't been for a long while, but made up for lost time with both shanties and forebitters. he allowed as he'll try to be back more often.

Longest time absenttee from the area, Chris Albrecht, here on a work induced vivit fro Munich was in fine voice as he dredged up words and music he hadn't been hanging out with for the past nine years.

may all your sessions be as good - Tom

Excellent!

I would hate to think that those venerable ceiling beams would go unsupported by voices once every month.

See you next week on Friday evening. We won't make the music session, assuming the regular session is happening, but we should be pulling into town by 7:30 pm.

The fence is waiting. Shoveling up wet kitty litter and replacing the washing machine while bumming services at Chez Morse took up the entire day. Along with the purchase and installing of a new dehumidifier only to kick the old one and have it begin to purr.
I haven't had any music since the John Roberts Concert. And there is a virgin bottle of Laphroiag staring me in the face. Just a few wet cartons left. But piles of soggy, smelly quilts and bedding. Wish I could afford to throw it all out.
Sorry for the thread drift.
Sorry I missed this again.

The Friday session at The Press Room will be going on as usual, but, of course, those of us in "The Press Room Gang" will have to head over to the Unitarian Church quite early in preparation for our performance in the Friday night part of the New Hampshire Folk Festival -- opening for Gordon Bok and Cindy Kallett.

There will be plenty of regulars to hold down the PR session until 9 (although, some, I'm sure, will come over for the concert).

It was truly wonderful to see Chris Albrecht again after over 9 years. He was a major part of our Friday sessions and part of Tom's 1980s sea music group, the Main Brace. On Saturday we were able to again sing "Lovely Agnes" together -- he does a lovely harmony on the chorus. (And it's been a while since I've sung it being hugged tightly around the waist!)
